Hi, I've just been prescribed Mounjaro and it's being dispatched in a few days.

So I was wondering if there were others starting soon who wanted to have a chat.

I finally got around to doing my first injection last night, no side effects so far, I'm really hoping that doesn't change. I've eaten normally (ie unhealthily) today, but nowhere near as much. Only ate half my dinner!

What's suppression supposed to feel like?

This morning I didn't feel "hungry" but I knew I needed to eat as I felt "empty" IYSWIM

I'm not getting cravings and I havent been wanting to snack but I've been able to eat all my meals as normal.

I thought suppression would limit how much I can eat? Or am I wrong?

I’m the same, though only just coming to the end of week one. I knew when I need to eat, and I can finish fine, but I don’t get the hunger. I could also eat more, like I could still have biscuits after my dinner like I used to. I think it’s the fact that I’m paying for it that stops me doing that, as I never used to be hungry when I’d have biscuits after dinner but would eat them anyways.

I'm the same, still able to eat 3 meals, but probably not thinking about food as much. I'm not restricting myself at all just going with it and trying to keep in mind the 2.5 dose is just the loading dose to get your system used to it. Suppression isn't supposed to happen until the therapeutic 5mg or higher. So I'm happy to hang in there and see how it goes. Despite this I have lost weight after 1 week, so we'll see..

Slimpleton · 09/11/2024 21:35

Coming to the end of W1 D4 no real side effects apart from coming on my period.... Which means my minipill is not working which I knew could be a side effect - something to do with the slow digestion. So I don't know if that means I should stop taking it? I haven't had a period for a few months since going on the pill and took it because of realllly heavy painful periods, so it's frustrating that these will come back! Might carry on taking it for a month and see if anything changes - anyone else have experience with this?

Food wise definitely low level suppression, have been able to stick to planned foods much better. Ran out of time tonight and we had a very rare takeaway, Indian - had half what I normally would and felt full which is great, I just hope I don't get any digestive side effects! It wasn't spicy so hopefully won't be too bad, had chicken tikka pieces, paneer pakora and a small portion of my husband's lamb pasanda, plain rice and a quarter of a paratha.

Will report back tomorrow 🤣 have definitely lost a lot of scale weight so far this week but was on an all inclusive last week so a lot of water and travel weight included in that!! Official weigh day Tues morning!

Whattodowithaminute · 10/11/2024 07:24

Morning all

great to join you all on journey. I started on Thursday,

SW 91.4kg with bmi 31.6
Ive had good suppression with dose so far, definitely making me able to get through days without snacking and eating a load of biscuits, sweet treats. Minimal side effects and all manageable, slight nausea, slightly slowing on ‘movements’, burping yesterday

had success with calorie counting and intermittent fasting via 5:2 back in 2019 but put it all back on over Covid and gradually since then as now WFH and pretty inactive with children all at school.

my reflections at this point are

  1. our family evening meals are healthy and balanced
  2. lunches i tend not to plan and then eat a cheese and ham toasty, crisps, biscuits which are all high fat and not balanced-I enjoy salads and soups need to get more organised with these being available
  3. my down fall is daily snacking, mindlessly eating crap because I need a break from work, the kids are eating after school, or I’m starving-lots of boom bust in my eating patterns etc
  4. i dont eat breakfast normally, then open the floodgates to food later in the day and don’t stop until I go to bed
  5. i dont exercise, not even regular walking so need to find space for this and something I enjoy
UpToonGirl · 10/11/2024 08:13

Into Wk2 now. Last night I was watching TV with DS and he had bought me a packet of biscuits, I actually had them in my hand and just put them to one side and left them. Didn't feel like it was a big deal, where as if I'd just been normally dieting I would have spent a load of time trying to talk myself out of eating them, them decided to have one or two...then probably eating half the packet so quite a change!

Oceangreyscale · 10/11/2024 08:39

Hello, I'm joining you all.

Did my first injection yesterday morning and promptly fainted which was scary (whole other thread on this!). But feeling fine now, I think it was mainly a response to injecting myself as I've had occasional similar episodes before when having blood taken etc.

Slight appetite suppression yesterday, maybe?

I'm 5'3 and starting at 13st 3lb which is a BMI of 32.

Choux · 10/11/2024 08:56

@Slimpleton carry on taking your mini pill but you can NOT rely on it as contraception if that's relevant. Mounjaro disrupts the absorption because it slows down the digestive system so you might not absorb enough for it to be an effective contraception.

It can also mean spotting or even a period but if you continue taking it, it should mean the periods are not as heavy or painful as they were before you start taking it.

BleachedJumper · 10/11/2024 10:06

Hi all, nice to see some new faces joining the November group! I think everyone has to approach this in their own way, we all have different lifestyles, habits and food triggers but the main thing we have in common is reaching a point where we want to make a change and improve our health, it’s nice to have people we can share that with.

My DP has suggested we go out for Sunday lunch today, which I hadn’t planned for! He is aware that I’m on a ‘diet’ but I haven’t told anyone that I’m taking the mj. I lost a significant amount of weight before meeting him, and through the course of the relationship put 3 stone back on by socialising/eating out 3 times a week and generally eating man sized portions of rich dinners with a bottle or two of wine on a regular basis. I think this may be a hurdle, that DP/friends are thinking I’m being boring in not joining in with all the food and alcohol I would usually consume.

Thank you so much, excellent advice, I think it actually is just spotting/breakthrough bleed actually so will carry on as normal and double up on contraception!

Bisognodelsole · 10/11/2024 10:35

Hope you’re all getting on well. Non scales victory this morning. Dusted off the neglected treadmill in the garage and just ran solidly for 10 minutes. Not exactly a marathon but it’s a start. Definitely feeling motivated

BrownJenkins · 10/11/2024 11:48

Has anyone else been offered Digital Weight Management on an app?
I had a phone call from my GP, on Friday, she thought it would be helpful. I think it's only available by referral but I could be wrong.

Bellavida99 · 10/11/2024 13:39

Morning all. Day 1 for me. Did my first 2.5mg injection today got about 5 stone to lose. Where is the best place to find info on what’s best to eat on Mounjaro please?

jaromoun · 10/11/2024 14:22

so an interesting couple of days for me. after not enjoying my wine on friday i had a couple of ready mixed gin ginger and rhubarb cans last night which tasted lovely. felt rough when i went to bed though. so clearly the alcohol doesn't agree with me which is not a bad thing at all.
had two meals yesterday, a balanced breakfast with slice of bacon, poached egg and avocado on crumpet then we were in ikea so had the obligatory meatballs but had the smaller portion. didn't feel hungry, didn't feel full and bloated. calories according to MFP about 1300 which i know would normally leave me feeling ravenous.
today had a protein yogurt with blueberries before we left for the remembrance service and i'm only starting to feel peckish now so will have a fruit snack and carry on until tea.
constipation starting though so off for some dulcolax tomorrow!
i am drinking plenty of fluid - either water or black tea. i do drink a lot of tea but i can't do food, booze and my beloved cuppa all at once!
weight 86.1kg which is almost 3kg down from my starting weight (one week before first injection). can't argue with that.
i have an appointment with a coach on wednesday (voy) and i chose an NHS trained dietician as that felt appropriate for me as i can make sense of the qualification and experience.
not sure what we will talk about though.
one thing i have noticed for the better is i have more energy and have been sleeping so well (chronic insomniac). could be less alcohol, less food bogging me down or some positive side effect from the medication or all 3.

andfinally10 · 10/11/2024 14:27

I am on day 2 and just feel a bit blurgh - normal side effects of dizzy, mildly but constantly nauseous, a bit flat of mood. So i guess all standard. Normally on a Sunday I'd be really looking forward to cooking a lovely meal but just feel a bit uninterested in that. And first family meal since I've started so worried as I've not told anyone they'll wonder why I'm not all jolly and enjoying my meal!
Not sure I'm enjoying it overall and already nervous about my second jab next Friday. Anyone else feeling mixed?

Mrsredlipstick · 10/11/2024 14:30

I gave up drinking three years ago. It had become problematic for me. I still had cravings on weekends. That has definitely lessened. I can't eat more than two meals. I can eat a yoghurt in between but that's it. W1D7.
Second jab tomorrow and first weigh. VOY are insisting on weekly phone calls.

Hi all,

Anyone else finding that food and drink they once really enjoyed the taste of tastes, well, disgusting?

I just start down with half a bowl of soup (homemade Chinese chicken and sweet corn and delicious) and a chicken and bacon mayo sandwich. Three bites of the sandwich and I threw it away - it was not nice.
Also treated myself to a Starbucks Winter Spiced Apple Warmer (just 18cals for a venti!) and it has gone down the sink.

Not just today, but a few thinks I’ve eaten this last week that I normally enjoy have also been really disappointing!

Have they always tasted this bad and my Hunger just overrode my taste buds or is this another MJ side-effect?

It’s not necessarily a bad thing, as long as find something a bit tastier soon!

Mrsredlipstick · 10/11/2024 14:38

@andfinally10 i did contemplate stopping as the D & V was horrendous.
Second jab for me tomorrow. If I have four weeks of that then perhaps not for me.
I am definitely eating less.

andfinally10 · 10/11/2024 14:46

@Mrsredlipstick yes def eating less, absolutely. So it's clearly "working" but logically I'm eating less because of the nausea... So that's what I'm paying for! Just feels a bit weird - paying to inject something into me to make me feel a bit sick. Oh dear. I was so so excited before I started - I was so looking forward to all the benefits which were partly vanity (wear nice clothes and have a jaw line again), health - being able to exercise and get back into running which I stopped because I am just too big, improve over all relationship with food and booze - stopping the nightly crisps and G&Ts. So all of those benefits have kicked in and long term I know the outcome is what I need. But the prospect of just going through weeks of feeling basically pretty crap is what I'm not looking forward to.... I'm not sure it's worth it to be honest

andfinally10 · 10/11/2024 14:48

@IndigoHexagon yes have found that too. Feel like everything I put in my mouth tastes really "strong" like my tastebuds have been cleaned. I had halloumi today it tasted so strong and overly cheesy and salty 🤮

redavocado · 10/11/2024 15:23

@IndigoHexagon I'm finding this too. First of all it was just sugar but I threw away half of the chicken wrap I made for lunch because it just tasted weird. I'm sure I'd have pushed through before MJ. I also left half of a pub lunch yesterday which is unheard of!

I've hit day five again and I can eat more normally now. I've noticed that days 1-4 I can only eat two meals and then the suppression wears off. I've still lost this week. Wednesday will be my third jab so I'm not sure whether to stick with 2.5mg or go up to 5mg. I'm also talking to Voy soon so I'll see what they suggest. I'm a bit worried they'll clock my starting BMI (overweight rather than obese but with some health issues) and stop my prescription.

Demjay · 10/11/2024 15:37

Ugghh. Week three here and I have horrible diarrhoea and sulphur burps. Anyone else?

DarkForces · 10/11/2024 16:26

Started Tuesday and had real pangs on Fri. Much better yesterday and today though. I assumed it'd be more consistent so that's been unexpected. Not sure if I've got a bit of a bug as I've had a sore throat and felt a bit rubbish with an odd rash as well as stomach symptoms. I really need some help to lose weight though so hopefully things will settle.

Also really gone off alcohol

ladyvimes · 10/11/2024 16:36

Hey all. I’ve just taken my second dose today and feeling great so far. I have definitely felt less hungry this week and have eaten smaller portions at mealtimes and not wanted to snack at all. Enjoying that I can still eat what I want but I’m moderation so it doesn’t really feel like dieting. Had a pizza for tea on Friday but ate half and was full and sated. Normally would have eaten the whole thing plus extras!!
I’ve lost about 4lbs this week and not really had any side effects yet so will see how I go but really very happy so far!

Odfod · 10/11/2024 16:46

Hello

Not been on MN for AGES but just had my prescription confirmed for dispatch and figured I needed some help along the way.

Not decided yet when to start as I'm away next weekend and really don't want to feel rough there. I was all set to start in half term but Lloyds cancelled my order saying they didn't deliver in my area so just reordered with another provider.
Worried about the side effects but worried more about staying this fat and the impact it's having on my health, particularly my mental health.

Any advice on when I should start? Just bite the bullet and work through any side effects or wait until after my weekend away?
