Anyone else just a bit fed up?!

Husband in the midst of a health scare and I'm just exhausted mentally and emotionally. Struggling to find joy this week sadly.

ShiftAMountain · 04/11/2024 13:55

Yesterday was the first time I've eaten (just) over 2000 cals since I started. I have a cold and stressed about something at work and the old mechanism of eating to comfort me came back.

Nothing like the scale it ever was 'back in the day' - basically just an extra sandwich and a slice of granola flapjack but just goes to show I still have some emotional habit stuff to work on.

It's hard to be objective but 5mg does have a pretty poor rep, with lots of people struggling for one reason or another. Maybe it's just because it comes (for most of us) after you've been doing this a month and so there are some bumps while you settle in for the long haul.

@peonym - I'm especially sorry to hear about your worries. Health scares in loved ones really are awful and I know that stomach sinking feeling of worry that it might be something significant. Hopefully, he gets a good result.

One foot in front the other for all of us. Not only are our bodies changing but also our minds are having to play catch up. For anyone who, like me, used food to medicate mood then it's probably understandable our moods might take a tumble every now and again.

I’m halfway through week 2 of 5ml dose and it’s had no real impact at all. My appetite and particularly comfort/boredom eating has returned. I lost 9 pounds in the first 5 weeks but this week has gone awry it feels. Has anyone else had this?

Hi, I've haven't posted in a while but came back to see if anyone else was the same as me on 5mg.
I had a slow loss on 2.5mg, mainly losing in the first week and then a couple of lb over the 3 weeks. I have also lost 9lb.

I'm on week 3 of 5mg and haven't lost anything, I'm going up and down on the same lb.
Suppression and food noise is not great for me on this. I've been eating crisps this week and more evening snacks 😒.

Hoping 7.5mg will work better for me. This month feels like I've wasted money...

Sorry not checked in for a while ..
I'm on week 7 and so far a loss of 14lb which I'm happy with .
After starting my second pen on 3.75 as I was scared of side effects I've move up to the full 5mg dose now this week.
My plan is to stay on 5mg for another month and see how it goes .
I do have some side effects but they are manageable at the moment . Some constipation but eating more fibre and a bit of lethargy.

It is changing my relationship with food though and my diet is significantly better than it has been for years . I've not eaten crisps , cut down on alcohol, focus on protein and making sure I'm reducing UPF's.
Exercise wise now weight training to ensure that I don't loose muscle mass . I was nervous about that . Proof will be what happens when I wean of this but all good at the moment.

Just in case anyone has been wondering about doing it I went to give blood today and all was fine. They just needed to know that my drugs had come from a registered pharmacy so it's all traceable. Which is fair enough. Plus feel absolutely fine, don't usually have issues, I'm on week 6 with a 2.5 dose and suppression is lower, plus due my next injection this evening, so was able to eat well beforehand and have two chocolate biscuits after, hate that we're not allowed tea anymore!

FelicityBeedle · 05/11/2024 19:32

@Pashazade
Yes I hate the no tea! I always used to stop and chat to the others at the recovery table over a cuppa, but now I just grab a packet of crisps and leave. Dilute juice just seems a bit youth club

Cocoaone · 05/11/2024 20:46

I had to stop giving blood as I always faint, definitely wouldn't risk it now I'm eating less.
Well done for going @Pashazade - a blood transfusion has saved a few people I know.

peonym · 06/11/2024 10:30

Thanks so much for the kind words @ShiftAMountain ❤️

agree 5mg is a little up and down!

Weigh day for me. I've lost 1lb this week which I'm delighted with given I was away for Halloween. Now just really want to knuckle down for the rest of November to get the lowest yet for December.

SW: 18,7
Pre MJ SW: 16,10
CW: 15,8
GW: 10,7

Still a long way to go but slow and steady wins the race...

Allmyfavouritepeople · 06/11/2024 10:37

End of week 8. No idea how much I've lost this week. On Sunday I was nearly 3lbs down but today I'm only half a pound so the truth is probably in the middle.

Echoing a lot of other people, finding it hard going and this would absolutely be the time when I'd usually give up. Instead I'm going back to prioritising protein and will carry on!

boxoftoads · 06/11/2024 11:35

Sorry I’ve not been around much, I came to catch up with those who’ve made the jump to 5mg and it seems I’m not alone in how it makes me feel.

I had lots of side effects but good suppression on 2.5mg but two weeks of 5mg and all it’s doing is making me exhausted! no real suppression.

I am not going to complain much, my total weight loss is now 7 pounds over those 6 weeks. Only 1 pound in the last fortnight.

However, it’s going down. It’s staying down, I’m on my tightest belt loop and I haven’t been this weight since 2022.

I just need to figure out how to deal with the falling asleep standing up tiredness!

MiddleAgedNotOwt · 06/11/2024 11:36

Nearly at the end of week 6 here, though it seems like it's been much longer. Stats first:

SW 201.2lb
CW 181.7lb
GW 148lb maybe?

Like others have said, I'm getting a bit bored by it and my impatience has kicked in. I just want to be strong and fit again. However - this medication (I'm on MJ) has been life-changing. The absence of food noise has had a knock-on effect on everything in my life. It's giving me the headspace to change my beliefs about myself, food, health vs looks...I can feel decades of self-flagellation being shed, along with the pounds, and I'm so much calmer and happier for it.

Non-weight wins recently - all my clothes are either loose, or fitting with ease now. My knees and back aren't regularly sore, and I'm actually looking ahead to spring and summer, and actually participating in the things that happen then, rather than hiding out. Literally haven't felt that way since I was in my early 20s. Revolutionary.

I've just reordered my second 5mg pen, though I won't need it for a couple of weeks. I did have some of the usual side effects but they seem to have tapered off this week, so here's hoping that was the right choice. Also ordered extra needles in case I decide to split the dose over the week.

Keep going, everyone!

Bit annoyed at myself, just reordered 5mg, and it was my first order with no referral discounts. I completely forgot that I could swap providers and save a chunk of money

Bellyblueboy · 06/11/2024 16:56

If you ordered with med express they price match- not the same as a nice first time discount but can make a bit of a difference on your next order

lespameo · 06/11/2024 21:54

@Bellyblueboy how do you go about getting the medexpress order price matched? I've already got my next pen lined up but thinking about the next one already as it'll be full price!

Also, another question for anyone who can help? I'm under 30 bmi now so I'm guessing if I looked to go elsewhere, they wouldn't supply as I won't fit the criteria? Is that correct?

Thanks

Bellyblueboy · 06/11/2024 22:01

Not sure about the bmi - I have only ordered from medexpress.

but the price match you just email them with a screen shot and a link to the supplier and they will put a credit on your account for the difference. I got £11 credit. Not huge but something!

lespameo · 06/11/2024 22:18

@Bellyblueboy thank you! £11 is better than nothing.

Ozgirl75 · 07/11/2024 00:23

Hi there - just checking in. Sorry to hear some of you are having not so great weeks.

I was reading an article in the Mail today about how Jenni Murray had noticed a massive reduction in pain from being on MJ and it’s funny because I was just thinking yesterday “oh I haven’t had that hip pain in ages” but didn’t associate with the MJ. I kept getting this niggling pain in my groin/hip mainly after exercise and was on the cusp of seeing the Dr about it (although I was sure it was just muscle pain) and I wonder if the MJ has helped with that as well!

I’m still losing my 1kg per week which is fine. I met someone I hadn’t seen in a couple of months yesterday and I wore a new, bright pink top and she said “you’re looking so well and that colour looks so lovely on you!” and I could tell she was thinking “what’s different, I can’t quite put my finger on it” 😁 because I feel like I’ve lost enough weight to look better but not so much so far that it’s obvious! It was a nice boost though.

FelicityBeedle · 07/11/2024 06:22

Thank you @Bellyblueboy I’d completely forgotten about that! Sent an email to them and it’s made me feel a bit better. I was just so busy umming and ahhing over 5 or 7.5, I think that’s why I forgot

Six weeks done! This week I didn’t lose any weight - it just jumped up and down!

But it was bound to happen sooner or later. I did have non scale victories - I really noticed clothes are fitting differently and I have had to retire two pairs of jeans because they don’t stay up.

SW 12st 4
CW 11st 3

total loss 1st 1

mocing up to 5mg tonight
