Why are we not being vocal about the miracle of weight loss jabs. ?

I started Mountjaro in April at 15 stone 10
I am now 11 stone . Which is my goal weight for my 5'10 frame. I have maintained that for 2 months having started regular exercise that I really enjoy - as well as ZOE healthy eating /cooking which I enjoy equally.

When people say to me 'Wow ! You look amazing (I'm not daft - they mean you don't look fat anymore) .. how have you done it . I am truthful and say 'fat jabs' .. and expand if they don't understand.

However , I have noticed on all the gazillion threads in here about weight loss injections, people are reticent to be honest . .. "my DH knows but haven't told anyone else " .. is a common remark . But WHY ???

Obesity is a life threatening condition. Like Dementia , cancer , liver failure etc etc .. if anyone had one of those conditions and found a drug to help , would they keep quiet or shout it from the bloody roof tops . ?

Or is the old adage true . Fat is a feminist (female) issue ? and we need to pretend it isn't ?

The concern for health seems to be fading fast now.

Yep, it's just about having a go at us horrible fatties who are so disgusting

Whatever helps you sleep at night!

to the outside world, you cheated, make your peace with that and enjoy!

Honestly no one whose opinion is worth bothering about thinks that.

Ive had family members (who didn’t know I was on MJ) telling me I should take it, presumably as they are worried for my health and care about me. Not one of them will give a shit that I’m “cheating”.

@berksandbeyond to the outside world I'm losing weight, because outside of my family nobody knows. But the fact you can be so vitriolic to women you've never met speaks a lot about your personality.

So if you don’t think it’s a cheat, why are you keeping it a secret? Interesting one to think about

CesarSoubreyon · 08/10/2024 09:02

Berksandbeyond

Why would anyone be jealous that people are buying willpower?
You can buy or fake most things in life, doesn’t mean you achieved it. It’s a cheat, and that’s totally fine if you’re okay with that, but at least admitting you’re cheating!

This is such a bizarre reaction. Is it cheating to take pain killers for a broken leg? Why not just be brave and suck up the pain right?

It is absolutely jealousy in SOME cases. But really, why does it bother you if some people 'cheat or buy willpower'? (not that I believe this btw). You're not paying for it in any way, so how does it affect you?

I look and feel incredible for the first time in 15 years. I've lost almost 2 stone so far and all the health issues that went along with obesity. I'm more active and so much happier. Why would I make the process of getting to a healthy positive place harder than it needs to be?

People keep it a secret because of people like you.

Exactly what I was about to say when they ask my why only my family knows.

Because people are so fucking horrible. My weight has been a lifelong struggle for me and I couldn't handle it if I started to be judged by everyone around me. Thankfully everyone I've told has been amazingly supportive

Really don’t flatter yourself that you are capable of contributing anything interesting to this discussion

I’ve kept it private as (a) it’s medical treatment and I don’t usually disclose that to the world and (b) I can’t be arsed with the judgment of ill informed idiots. Many examples of the latter on this thread

itwasnevermine · 08/10/2024 09:06

Oh it was already said.

@berksandbeyond because people are so hateful. Look at this thread.

I also have told my family. My closest friends are aware I'm on something for weight loss but I've not told them the fine details. I don't want to tell my work colleagues because, well, why would I? They don't need to know.

Because some people think it's utterly ludicrous to be pumping crap into your veins in order to lose weight. And no-one knows the long term effects of weight loss jans .. I foresee a catastrophic fallout in a few years from them.

Also, SOME people eat less and get more exercise to lose weight. I know, imagine that. Shock

.

Edited

You don’t ‘pump them into your veins’ - they’re subcutaneous injections. Perhaps you could do just a modicum of research before gracing us with your opinion?

And if you’ve never dealt with grief, stress, perimenopause and health conditions (some people have them all simultaneously, I know imagine that!) all affecting your weight, perhaps hold on the fatuous “SOME people eat less and get more exercise to lose weight. I know, imagine that.” as well.

berksandbeyond · 08/10/2024 09:10

People are SO defensive. Why do you care if other people think you’re cheating? If you’re so happy and it’s a miracle.. then enjoy it! You don’t seem happy though. Maybe you are worried about the long term affects or annoyed that you’ll have to pay for it for the rest of your lives. I hope it brings you happiness!

peonym · 08/10/2024 08:34

Well done on keeping your mouth shut to the malteaser - perhaps you could try shutting your mouth in other circumstances too? Might prevent some of the ignorance coming out.

Hahaha I don’t say it to them!! This is a public forum though asking for opinions.

It is the easy option for weight loss. But maybe the jabs will be prescribed forever and they’ll be fine. One has terrible heartburn and diarrhoea though, so I don’t think she’ll want to keep taking it.

O angry because you're ignorant, and attacking me for something that has absolutely no impact on your life whatsoever.

We don't know each other. Yet you have constantly attacked me for a choice I have made for my health, and pretended it's coming from an area of concern. It's not. It's coming from your blatant hatred of fat people.

It’s ‘cheating’ in exactly the same way that taking HRT is.

CoverMeInMarmalade · 08/10/2024 09:12

Yeah, I think you have to be pretty stupid (or pretending to be) to come on a thread with provicative views and then pretend you cannot work out why the responses are upset...

Say it is a "cheat", why does that matter? Surely that's a good thing? I've been fortunate to have never struggled with my weight, but I am over the moon there's an option for people who have. I'm not saying it makes it really easy, but if it did, surely that's great?! Why would people need to suffer? 🥴

I don’t hate fat people, I have been a fat person! Some people might still consider me a fat person. I don’t like

  1. liars
  2. cheats 🤷🏼‍♀️
itwasnevermine · 08/10/2024 09:14

@berksandbeyond and I am neither of those things. I'm someone who's taking a medication for a long term health issue.

peonym · 08/10/2024 09:17

I assume you must also be the type of person who thinks epidurals for childbirth are cheating? In fact why stop there, medicine is cheating full stop - you get cancer you take your bad luck and live with it. Great approach!

In all seriousness, there must be something seriously lacking in your life to care so much about how others lose weight.

Wonkypictureframe · 08/10/2024 09:17

I genuinely don’t give a shit if some ignorant people think I’m cheating. Presumably you don’t give a shit if I think you’re ignorant? We can agree on something!

I suspect views on these medicines will change over time.

doodleschnoodle · 08/10/2024 09:20

The cheating argument is so bizarre. Who is the victim of this supposed cheat? Who is being cheated? People who lose weight without weight loss jabs? Naturally slim people? What are they losing out on when someone else 'cheats'?

People 'cheat' about loads of things in life, and that really just means finding easier avenues to achieve things or external ways to change appearance or health in a way they can't do themselves. I can think of at least half a dozen things people (women especially) routinely do to themselves that could be considered 'cheating' if taking weight loss jabs is. But no one seems to care about any of those or get bizarrely angry about it. Weird that! Wink

ThatsNotMyTeen · 08/10/2024 09:20

My main takeaway from this thread is that I am glad I have more supportive people in my life than a lot of the posters on this thread!

I have gout caused by naturally high uric acid levels. I take medication to lower the uric acid so I don’t get gout any more but without needlessly impacting my diet. Is that cheating? It would seem so in PP eyes, when I could just “work harder” to eat nothing but low purine food for the rest of my life.

CoverMeInMarmalade · 08/10/2024 09:24

I think it's probably clear by now that some of the greatest resentments for this drug is from people who did not have it available to them when they lost weight.

A bit like me (hypothetically!) being shirty about people who had help to buy their first home - or partners to help buy it with - when I had to work hard to save all the money myself. After all, if I could earn enough money to buy my own home then everyone else who didn't do it that is cheating. And if they don't tell people they had help, they are liars as well 😂

CrazyGoatLady · 08/10/2024 09:24

berksandbeyond · 08/10/2024 09:01

So if you don’t think it’s a cheat, why are you keeping it a secret? Interesting one to think about

If I cast a glance over this thread, I don't even need my psychology doctorate to answer this one.

Because people judge without knowing facts. They read sensationalist stories in the media about already slim celebs misusing the products. They don't understand how the drugs work, because they're too lazy to read any actual science and rely on tabloid stories and anecdotes about their friends who fake fat photos and lie about their BMI to access medication. They wring their hands on here about it, but they forget that people lie to medical professionals ALL THE TIME to get things they want out of the system. I've had people lie on referrals about their child's mental health or behaviour to get bumped up waiting lists. I don't blame them really, CAMHS was shite. People will do what they need to get their needs met. People lie to their GPs to get sick notes - there was a thread on here the other day about exactly that!

Because if you're overweight, you are damned if you're fat (you're lazy/greedy/it's your own fault) and damned if you lose weight in a way others think is the wrong way to do it.

Because if people really admit it, as some have done on this thread, they judge fat people for being fat but also resent it when fat people lose weight and are just waiting for them to fail.

SilenceInside · 08/10/2024 09:25

@berksandbeyond could you explain who is being cheated and what they are being cheated out of? What unfair advantage is being gained over whom?

Seaitoverthere · 08/10/2024 09:25

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that people who thinking taking weight loss medication is ‘cheating’ have some kind of critical thinking deficit and an inability to see anything outside their own experience. Annoying to see but on balance I think maybe they are to be pitied.
