OP posts:

Then suggest the OP does that, rather than something that's fraudulent.

There's a legal cut off, it has to be set somewhere, and sensibly it's at a BMI of 30 which is the bottom end of the obese category. It's the nature of a hard cut off that some people will fall fractionally below it.

DespairCalling · 04/10/2024 15:25

lookathatbookcase · 04/10/2024 15:23

As has already been said, the people who take Mounjaro with a BMI below 30 predominantly started when their BMI was much higher, and have been gradually titrating up from a low dose to carefully introduce the medication into their bodies. As has already been said, this is in line with how Mounjaro has been carefully and intentionally designed as a prescription medication for weightloss in extremely overweight people. It has not been designed, or intended, for use in patients who start at a lower BMI. How is this so difficult to understand? It is the very definition of 'batshit crazy' to use prescription medication in a way which goes against the intent of years of medical research!

Her BMI is only just below 30 so this is daft

KrankyKumquat · 04/10/2024 15:59

@DespairCalling
It only appears daft if you don't understand what WLM are and do. They correct metabolic dysfunction. If you're not, and have never been, obese, you may not have metabolic dysfunction and therefore, you are taking a powerful medication, with significant side effects, for a condition you may not have. Diagnosing one of a wide range of metabolic disorders is beyond routine health services so, in this case, regulators have decided the most appropriate way to prescribe correctly is by using the obese category as a cut off point. Complain to them if you don't agree with that. I've no idea if the op has metabolic dysfunction - if she has, she'll soon get to the obese category and be able to get WLM. If she hasn't, she'll be able to manage her weight through diet and exercise.

Bananalanacake · 04/10/2024 17:05

A while ago I was reading a 'tell us a secret,' thread and a poster said they were taking Ozempic and was now a size 10 after being a 12, I thought you don't need it if you're a 12. But I didn't say anything as I know little about it.

ObsidianTree · 04/10/2024 17:15

I think as your BMI is 29.9 you are so close to the cut off I see your point. I suggest you try Voy maybe or Oushk. They might be more understanding and accept you.

Alternatively wait until you gain that 1/2 lb to tip you into obese!

easylikeasundaymorn · 04/10/2024 17:30

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/10/2024 11:08

You are NOT "very overweight", you are not in the obese category which is the patients this is designed for. It is insulting to those people using it at far higher weights than you to suggest that you are.

It is foolhardy to lie to get a medication you do not fit the criteria for, please don't do that. If you were to have an adverse reaction and, somehow, end up in hospital it would be clear that you were misusing the medication.
These medications are tested only on people who do fit the criteria and, even if you can manipulate things to get it this month, you will run into the same problem of not being eligible very quickly as you lose weight.

she has a BMI of 29.9, 30 (e.g. if she were 2lb heavier) is obese. She is the highest in the overweight category she could possibly be without going into the next category of obesity, so 'very overweight' is a completely accurate description if she wants to use it.

I agree that it's understandable and justifiable why the doctors aren't signing it off, but all this catastrophising by some posters about the potential dangers are a little OTT in OP's particular circumstances given if she were just half a stone heavier she almost definitely would be prescribed it.

Some of the advice on this thread is satire right? Please tell me it’s satire?

It definitely isn’t

ShiftAMountain · 04/10/2024 17:37

This thread is ridiculous and is, I assume, why pharmacists are starting to warn that stricter regulation is coming for these drugs - greater responsibilities on prescribers to make sure people are not trying to cheat the criteria like this by only presciribing them once their weight is verified in person somehow. I was against it, but I am starting to see it's needed.

StormingNorman · 04/10/2024 17:38

Pavolvaa · 04/10/2024 10:24

How do these skinny celebs get it ??

Same way Matthew Perry and Michael Jackson got prescriptions.

StormingNorman · 04/10/2024 17:41

Pavolvaa · 04/10/2024 10:31

I have tried calorie counting, already eat healthy and gym it’s too much extra junk and portion size in my case.

Could be me writing that @Pavolvaa. Gain the weight you need and try myBMI. They’ve been great for me.

Blanketyre · 04/10/2024 17:42

itwasnevermine · 04/10/2024 10:46

DO NOT DO THIS!!!

The prescription criteria are strict because this is a serious medication. You could make yourself seriously ill.

Why on earth would you make yourself ill? It doesn't magically become safer if you are over 30 BMI.

Such an overreaction. OP’s BMI is 0.01 below the prescribing threshold. And most of us using it will at some point have a BMI far below OP’s because the whole point is use to get to a healthy weight and maintain it.

What possible way is it foolhardy to take it?

Blanketyre · 04/10/2024 17:44

People are urged to take it until they are at a healthy BMI. So clearly taking it when officially overweight doesn't have health issues!

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/10/2024 17:54

Very OTT some reactions on this thread. I could understand it if OP had e.g. BMI 22 or something but not nearly 30.

Sounds like you know what the issue is..eat healthy but too much junk etc

Need to be a bit stricter with youself.

Measure everything accurately, weights of food/portions, calories, sugar etc, read the packets , cans etc avoid alcohol, in my case i put it all in a spreadsheet and was surprized where the bad stuff was lurking. I aimed for 500 calories a day reduction, 3500 calories (a week) is around 1 lb

The body can be slow to react at times but once it starts reducing keep going

On what planet is a BMI of 29.9 nor ‘very overweight’? It is 0.1 away from ‘obese’.

The OP is very overweight. This is her description and one she’s entitled to use. I’m pretty sure not many, is any, obese people are insulted by this.

Buffypaws · 04/10/2024 18:35

CatKitt · 04/10/2024 10:49

Wow! To look bulky/fat/obese when you aren't?

No I was concerned I didn’t look fat enough

The nature of SM is that plenty of people read other people's posts and the replies. While the position in relation to the op is marginal, others of much lower weight can and will read it and take on board the suggestions about how they can dupe a prescriber and which prescribers are less vigilant. Some of the comments and advice here is irresponsible and potentially dangerous therefore. Some posters are clearly being deliberately provocative in the way they are giving hints and tips, while others are trying to mitigate this by explaining what WLM are, how they work and why using them when not eligible can be dangerous.

Or she could take Mounjaro.

Buffypaws · 04/10/2024 18:45

Yes Mounjaro is great

ruffler45 · 05/10/2024 08:53

Blanketyre · 04/10/2024 18:42

Or she could take Mounjaro.

The less medication anyone takes is better, they all have side effects some you which you can do without.

Side effects of Mounjaro may include:

  • Swelling, redness, or itching at the injection site
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Upset stomach
  • Diarrhea or constipation

So you are suggesting she carries on eating junk food whch can have other effects besides being over weight..

Blanketyre · 05/10/2024 09:06

Medication is literally designed to help people feel better.

ruffler45 · 05/10/2024 09:25

Medication is literally designed to help people feel better.

All medications have side effects

Serious side effects (of Mounjaro) may include: Signs of kidney problems, Vision changes, and Signs of pancreas or gallbladder disease

The OP has options/a choice...
