You are NOT "very overweight", you are not in the obese category which is the patients this is designed for. It is insulting to those people using it at far higher weights than you to suggest that you are.

It is foolhardy to lie to get a medication you do not fit the criteria for, please don't do that. If you were to have an adverse reaction and, somehow, end up in hospital it would be clear that you were misusing the medication.
These medications are tested only on people who do fit the criteria and, even if you can manipulate things to get it this month, you will run into the same problem of not being eligible very quickly as you lose weight.

Newuser75 · 04/10/2024 10:45

I wouldn't lie or make yourself heavier just to get it. There are guidelines for a reason and I'd be worried about safety if I ignored them.

This. There are limits for a reason. Taking Mounjaro is not without risk, some of them really significant. Unless there is a medical reason to take it the risks outweigh the benefits.

People take it at my current weight so I think this is a bit extreme

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/10/2024 11:17

You have tried three reputable prescribers who have all declined you so it is not extreme at all
Medical guidelines are there for good reason

LostittoBostik · 04/10/2024 11:17

Pavolvaa · 04/10/2024 10:24

How do these skinny celebs get it ??

By the kind of doctors that accidentally killed Matthew Perry.

SilenceInside · 04/10/2024 11:20

@Pavolvaa they don't start taking it at your current weight. Or, if they do, it's because they have significant weight-related health issues, or they are of a particular ethnicity where BMI is not as relevant.

Clearly, you are of a mind to lie to obtain prescription medication. No one should be advising you to do that and you should not be considering it. If you are not obese, or overweight with significant weight-related health conditions, the risks outweigh the benefits.

Think about the fact that you are not actually obese, and only have a small amount of weight to lose, relatively, in order to get to a healthy weight.

Hello - I’ve heard of other people tweaking their height down an inch to increase their BMI. Since you’re so close to the threshold, and since people routinely stay on it until their BMI is 25 and lower, I don’t see it as a big deal. Or wait and weigh the week before your period, if that’s a time that you retain a few extra LBs.

I was 5ft 3, or I thought until last time at the NHS health check they got me to take my shoes off and was 5ft 2, making my BMI higher. Annoying at the time, but could be useful in some cases I suppose.

Fluoreto · 04/10/2024 13:01

itwasnevermine · 04/10/2024 10:46

DO NOT DO THIS!!!

The prescription criteria are strict because this is a serious medication. You could make yourself seriously ill.

Absolutely agree Darwin

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/10/2024 13:06

I would try Oushk, or Voy OP. Don't be put off, if you have e.g. high blood pressure, depression or high cholesterol you could still qualify for it. All the best with it. I have sent you a PM.

Pbelle · 04/10/2024 13:14

Have you had your cholesterol tested? My BMI was slightly under 30 when I did my consultation, but my cholesterol levels are higher than they should be (I had a recent test). I thought I would be ineligible until my weight had gone up even more, but cholesterol is an underlying condition. It's worth getting that checked out if you haven't already.

eloelo123 · 04/10/2024 13:37

OP@Pavolvaa someone posted a really helpful “smart bmi “:calculator the other day , I don’t know your age (so guessed at 35 ), and this calculator puts you in the overweight category ( normal BMI puts you at 29) and that a 5 kg loss would put you into a healthier weight range . That’s 11lbs, is it really worth the injections to do that amount? It’s worth doing that calculation as normally bmi is actually not a great way to assess health .

eeeeeeeee · 04/10/2024 13:47

The advice on here to hold weights whilst stepping on the scales is really concerning. I can understand why pharmacies are cracking down on providing prescriptions. The implications are dreadful.

It’s a dangerous thing to suggest, but it’s also a stupid thing to suggest. There’s ways you can genuinely weigh more, especially if your BMI is 29.9 at 84kg. At 84.5kg your BMI would be 30.1. Just weighing yourself after dinner could result in that sort of difference.

Portalsalways · 04/10/2024 13:53

Look if you are going to lie you are going to lie.

But no one should be giving you tips and tricks on how to lie and get it.

Thin celebrities that use it are often in the US where the medical system is very different and money is king. They often have private doctors that prescribe lots of different things. But that can go seriously wrong.

The other problem is that if loads of people are lying to obtain it and it keeps impacting people’s health, they regulations will be stricter. Since the NHS is pretty useless at helping over weight people, especially women, there’s a real concern that those people who lie will end up making it harder to get hold for people who legitimately meet the criteria.

So people using it, are concerned about people lying to get it.

But you are going to do what you are going to do. I just don’t think it’s a good idea to encourage it.

and let’s be honest, if you really can’t control your eating you would be above BMI 30 soon enough.

Your last paragraph is very unkind and not in the spirit of supporting women. Please do better.

OK, fair enough. But what about the rest of the post? PP has very clearly explained why lying to obtain prescription medication is a bad idea. Any unintended consequences of unlicenced use are going to impact availability for everyone.

Portalsalways · 04/10/2024 14:28

Pavolvaa · 04/10/2024 14:19

How is it really unkind?

It’s simple facts. If you can’t control your over eating, then your weight will continue to rise. Without intervention it will continue to rise.

Pretending that’s not the case, isn’t kind. It’s not helpful and it’s not true. I know, because I am over weight.

and actually I don’t need to be supportive of someone lying to obtain medication. Or risking it being made harder for the people who qualify for it. And being a woman is neither here nor there. I have no obligation to pretend anything, as a show of support because you a woman.

One of my mates stood on the scales when taking the pic of her weight and held weights in her hand 😂😂
most of my friends get it from a contact from the gym

they have all lost a lot of weight
but some have started to stall/ put it back on

Eww, everything you have posted is shocking. Why people would inject random shit into themselves from dodgy sources is beyond me, your friends are playing with fire

They are grown ups and can do what they want
they want to be slim so they aren’t going to listen to any sort of reasoning

SilenceInside · 04/10/2024 14:36

"They are grown ups and can do what they want" true, but most people would point out when those apparent grown ups are doing something that is stupid, dangerous and illegal. Rather than condone it or treat it as a joke.

I seriously can't understand why seemingly functioning adults would think injecting themselves with something they have sourced "from a contact at the gym" is a good idea.

Oh my god! What is this thread? MN hid it and then brought it back. Shocking!

Motnight · 04/10/2024 14:39

Weight loss injection threads are the first that I have seen on Mumsnet where people are regularly advocating lying to get access to medicines.

CatKitt · 04/10/2024 14:40

So basically like buying drugs from a drug dealer if that "contact" isn't a registered prescriber and licensed provider. That contact and your friends are committing a crime I think.
