How do you feel starting ozempic?

I had my second injection and feel like I've been run over by a bus this morning.

Headache, achy and a little nauseous. Does this ease off? I lost a lot of weight on keto years ago and it's very slowly been creeping back. So I want to stop myself going back to where I was!

Just wondering if the body aches are normal, I feel like I've overdone it in the gym.

Hi op,

Sorry no advice for you, I'm starting ozempic today! Can I ask did you have these side effects from your first injection? Have you already felt like your appetite is suppressed?

I'll jump back on once I've started, and let you know if I have any side effects! Maybe we can check in and see how the other is doing?

lunar1 · 01/10/2024 11:37

@Caledoniablue I did but to a lesser extent. Appetite definitely suppressed, feeling full very quickly. I lost 8lbs in the first week, my bmi is now 36! (Before I started keto years ago was 42) Going to be a long journey, but worth it I think.

Let me know how you get on, we can keep each other company.

Oh thats an amazing loss for the first week! Shame about the side effects though, I read somewhere to add electrolytes to your water daily, maybe that could help?

What was your starting weight? I'm about to weigh myself this afternoon but I think I'm sitting around 80kg, I'm only 5ft1 so I'd ideally like to get back to around 60kg fingers crossed!

lunar1 · 01/10/2024 16:54

107kg the day before I started, 103kg now. Small goals for me. Id like to be 99kg as a start.

@Caledoniablue hope your first dose went ok

Thank you! I wanted to weigh myself before I started but annoyingly our scales have no battery and I was too impatient so took the first dose anyway and will weigh tomorrow.
Not sure if it's placebo or not, but I haven't wanted to eat anything this evening after dinner and I'm usually an evening snacker.

How are you feeling now? Less achey I hope.

ApoodlecalledPenny · 01/10/2024 22:57

I was exhausted for the first month, I think, but completely normal now (9months in). Well, more energy than before tbh because of losing 5 stone 😁

Ellepff · 01/10/2024 23:12

I was exhausted after the first 2 doses and then I had smoother energy levels. I had great results my first 5-6 weeks on 2.5. Some nausea, reduced appetite. Only 1 day of PMS cravings. Then I missed a week for illness and went back to 2.5. I’ve been stalled 2 weeks so I’ll go up to .5 now.

It is possible to eat too much and feel awful, or anything fried or too fatty gives me diarrhea. If I eat protein and a fruit/veg each meal I have no cravings and great appetite suppression even still on .25

Caledoniablue · 02/10/2024 10:23

@ApoodlecalledPenny 5st that's absolutely amazing! Do you still have much more to lose?

I've weighed this morning, starting weight 80.6kg, goal weight is 60kg.
So far I've got no side effects although appreciate its not even 24hrs since my first dose. I haven't eaten yet today, and weirdly haven't even thought about food either. Hopefully it's already kicked in and not me just imagining it.

lunar1 · 02/10/2024 11:12

I'd be very happy with 5 stone!

Feeling much better today, able to eat but my appetite is definitely limited to very small meals.

OP posts:
Caledoniablue · 02/10/2024 18:45

Glad you're feeling better @lunar1

My first day has been very odd, I didnt eat til around 1pm, had ham salad on a wholegrain wrap, then didn't even think about food until dinner. I'd made ds spag bol, plated up and only managed a tiny portion. Really didn't expect the suppression to kick in so fast

lunar1 · 03/10/2024 09:35

It's really odd how it changes your thinking so quickly isn't it. I need to ring the doctor who prescribed mine tomorrow to see if she wants me to do another week at this dose or increase it.

OP posts:
Caledoniablue · 03/10/2024 11:52

Yeah completely, I almost didn't believe the threads I was reading where people were saying they had to actively force themselves to eat, and that food chatter in their heads had disappeared. Its a bloody miracle! I've a cupboard full of snacks and chocolate and haven't been even remotely tempted by any of it.

Are you still on the 0.25mg dose @lunar1

lunar1 · 03/10/2024 11:57

Yes, is that the same dose you're on?

There is an open tub of quality streets in the kitchen, I haven't had one. It's not even that I can't, because I don't want to eliminate foods and end up binging, I just don't fancy them.

I have a tip of raw cashews and almonds that seems far more appealing at the minute.

When will you increase your dose?

BigGreyDusty · 03/10/2024 11:58

I am Type 2 Diabetic but as I'm managing my levels the Dr won't prescribe me weightloss injections. I have tried Superdrug and Boots and they won't prescribe me any for the same reasons. I'm fat and wanting to lose weight and I'm struggling.
Is there anyone out there who got a prescription from a Private Doctor for weightloss injections?

Caledoniablue · 03/10/2024 12:02

That's exactly it, chocolate just isn't appealing anymore. Never thought I'd say it!

Yeah I've got a 4 week prescription of 0.25mg then will see. I guess if it's still working and suppression stays the same I'll keep it as it is. Do you feel like you need to change doses @lunar1?

Caledoniablue · 03/10/2024 12:18

@BigGreyDusty I'm not sure how it works in the UK tbh. I'm in Portugal, and managed to get ozempic through a private Dr based in Spain, as they won't prescribe it for weight loss here and mounjaro isn't available.
Hopefully someone else can help you out. I've seen a lot of different private online prescribers of mounjaro on other threads though

Thanks for replying. I'll wait to see what someone from the UK says.

lunar1 · 04/10/2024 08:38

I'm not sure @BigGreyDusty, I spoke to the dr that prescribed mine yesterday. I did ask her about people with diabetes, she said she doesn't prescribe it for diabetics but said that you she's sure some do.

I'm staying on the same dose next week as the side effects the morning after were shocking for me.

I know I shouldn't weigh too often, but I got on the scales this morning and am now exactly 16 stone.

Really looking forward to that starting with a 15!

Flatandhappy · 04/10/2024 08:50

Really interested to read this thread. I took my second weekly .25 dose on Tuesday and I honestly have to say that there seems to be zero change in my appetite. I was hoping it might make wine (my vice) seem unappealing but no! I don’t have bad eating habits tbh other than the wine - very few sweet things, I don’t snack between meals, all the things that people say it helps with so maybe just the wrong thing for me? I lost 30kg in 30 weeks with WW ten years ago but just can’t bring myself to do that again. I put on 15kg after my cancer treatment finished with a “life is too short not to eat the pasta” mindset but here I am, alive five years later and I need to shift the weight.

Caledoniablue · 04/10/2024 10:42

That's great @lunlunar1 it's always such a boost when the scales change numbers, it'll be down to 15 in no time! Are you usually weighing weekly?

It's strange how differently it affects people @Flatandhappy I've been reading all the threads on this board, some people it hits right away, and others I've seen it takes 3 or 4 weeks to build up then starts working. I was told by my prescriber that the first month is a therapeutic dose just to get your body used to it, and that it may not work until I dose up to 0.5mg but that doesn't seem to have been the case. Keep going and I'm sure you'll get there. Congrats on the successful cancer treatment!

lunar1 · 04/10/2024 18:26

I'm hungry today, for the first time since I had the 1st dose. I haven't overeaten, but it's been a conscious decision. I wonder if that's a sign I should increase the dose on Monday after all.

OP posts:
Caledoniablue · 06/10/2024 10:51

Could you try one week on 0.5mg @lunar1 then go back to 0.25mg if the side effects are too much?

I'm really irritable this week, feel like I do the week of my period, wondering if its a side effect of either the injection or not eating enough even though I don't feel hungry!

lunar1 · 06/10/2024 11:40

@Caledoniablue it's definitely something your whole body feels isn't it, these injections. The tiredness is something else.

I'm slightly worried about the next dose, I let's due tomorrow so I guess I'll decide when I've been on the scales in the morning. Have you weighed yourself yet?
