It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)
Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro link below:

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

@Bakedpumpkin I guess you'll just have to chalk this up to a learning experience, order a new pen now, and make sure you read the instructions each time and take each step slowly. If you're unsure at any point next time, you can pause and maybe post here for advice before continuing.

No I didn't inject it I’ve only had one starter dose last week in total.

Phew!

Bakedpumpkin · 14/10/2024 12:17

Thanks guys I know I should have stopped such a waste of money :(
the supplier have said they can charge me for a replacement so I stay on track with timescales.

3wDavid · 14/10/2024 12:38

Just to check in quickly, I am exactly 25 kg down today! And I am officially making (or more like creeping) my way up to 7.5 mg! After God knows how long on 5 mg, I felt the effects wearing off the last couple of weeks so last week I did my bonus dose and got just shy of 6mg. Felt fine, no side effects, decent suppression, so I felt encouraged and today I did my weekly jab and did 6.25 mg! Hope it works well for me, if it does, I don’t have an issue sticking with this dose for a few weeks before making the leap to 7.5 mg. Tbh, I just need the 7.5 to be good to me, and then I’ll start scaling back down as I inch closer and closer to target.

Fuffedoff · 14/10/2024 14:47

Afternoon,

I randomly "gained" 1.2kg on Sunday weigh in, but I possibly did have some salty food the night before- actually it most likely was.
Today I'm -0.6kg again, so hopefully I'm on the right path to losing the water weight again.
I have been feeling very bloated and haven't been to the toilet in two days. I had a few episodes of diarrhea on Saturday and I took some imodium- maybe that's not helped.
Anywho, last night I decided to purchase a fancy Bluetooth measuring tape. It arrived this morning and I was so excited that I've logged my measurements already. Hopefully this might be a bit more accurate then my own measuring :D
Onwards and upwards

Hi, does anyone know how I go about changing from pharmacy2u to Asda for my 5mg

Hi, does anyone know how I go about changing from pharmacy2u to Asda for my 5mg

You fill out the online consultation and it will ask you if you are already taking weight loss medication, and if so, which one and what the dose it. You should then be able to continue and request the 5mg dose rather than the starting 2.5mg. You might be asked to upload photos of your 2.5mg pen box with your prescription details.

(I have a discount code for Asda if you'd like me to PM it to you).

@QueenOfHiraeth i don’t have it as a regular issue. Just with a few foods. Things that didn’t fully sit right before in a large dose have a bigger reaction to a smaller portion now. So it’s got me trained not to eat those things even to be polite.

for hair, I’m not using it right now, but I’ve used the ordinary anti peptide serum post partum both times, it gives a nice boost for cheap. I’ve also had bamboo tea and getting my iron levels healthy help when I was younger. I have wavy almost curly hair and switching to a silk pillowcase has been nice. Etsy is a lot cheaper than the instagram brands. It would work better if DC and DH didn’t steal it half the time.

I finally am shifting weight again! 155.8 pounds this morning! I took senna tea last night and might need another dose tonight depending on how my tummy feels.

I think one of my favourite small pleasures on Ozempic is that like my DC and like myself until pubertyish, I just stop when I’m full and leave a few bites on my plate. Blows my mind!

NewLifter · 14/10/2024 17:26

Thanks for all the responses to my stupidly long post in maintenance! Interesting to see your views.

NewLifter · 14/10/2024 17:30

Bakedpumpkin · 14/10/2024 10:03

Yes I kept turning and pushing and couldn’t see that it was coming out I’ve only done it once before and didn’t stupidly use the instructions for the second time.

Are you absolutely sure the pen is empty, would you be happy to post a pic? I don't think it's possible to squirt out three doses without seeing any liquid leave.

Are you absolutely sure it wasn't just three priming doses that you wasted? That would make far more sense. Why would you wing the pen right out and press the plunger without injecting the needle into your skin? I'm hoping that's not the case and that you're just panicking.

Seriously, post a pic for us.

If it helps, despite reading the instructions and watching the YouTube video multiple times, I totally mucked up my first injection. Panicked that I was going to inject too much and ended up squirting a dose away to be sure 🤦🏻‍♀️

LaurieFairyCake · 14/10/2024 18:22

18 weeks on MJ and now a 25 pound loss

Bang in the middle of overweight. I can honestly say I don't look overweight at all, literally even the ugliest male human in a white van isn't going to shout FATtY at me in the street Grin

I'm going to carry on til I'm not overweight and then see my GP to ask for maintenance

I've been scouring the threads for anyone to have got this yet but not seen it

Sorry this happened to you also but makes me feel a bit less stupid! I couldn’t actually believe I did it!

imnottoofussed · 14/10/2024 18:52

But where did the actual liquid go?

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 14/10/2024 20:07

Has anyone had a weird type of dizziness? Kind of floor a bit unstable feeling? Only started in week 3. Definitely not low blood sugar/lack of food.

QueenOfHiraeth · 14/10/2024 20:16

@LaurieFairyCake Just a question. If no-one would think you are overweight how much more do you plan to lose and why? It has been scientifically proven that the lower end of the overweight (by BMI) category is actually a healthier place to be than the, supposedly, healthy weight range
I am older and am aware that if I were to go to the "normal" weight range I would probably look ill so plan to stop sooner, probably at the point you describe being at now. I know you are probably quite a lot younger but I'm just curious why you want to lose more if you are looking good already?

Also I think you would be very lucky indeed if you found a GP willing to prescribe for maintenance. As yet they are not even prescribing for those of us who are overweight and with health risks...

Could be low blood pressure? Mj does lower it.

katinthehattt · 14/10/2024 20:16

@TryingAgainAgainAgain low blood pressure?

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 14/10/2024 20:40

Thank you both. I usually have high blood pressure so I’ll check.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/10/2024 20:44

queenofhiraeth

Just an observation, not a medical fact. I don't LOOK overweight though I'm still bmi 28 - so do still need to lose 3 stone to get to middle of bmi healthy weight. That's under 8 stone for my height.

My bmi range for a healthy weight is 6 stone to 8 stone 6 pounds.

I'm going to continue til I get to middle of healthy bmi so I can go to the doctors and say look I've put all this money into getting to a healthy weight, now I want you to help me maintain it (had a gastric sleeve too).

I'm also old Grin

KrankyKumquat · 14/10/2024 20:47

My BP was high 130s (top number, can't remember bottom one) when I started - it dropped to around 100 within the first month and I've struggled with dizziness throughout (eating doesn't seem to help so I'm assuming it isn't low blood sugar). It just gradually improves as the day goes on. I'm hoping it'll improve as I lower dose in maintenance - if not, I might speak to GP about it.

Goodness, hope it settles. I’m on two medications for high blood pressure so hoping to come off them eventually. Didn’t occur to me that it could drop so soon.

KrankyKumquat · 14/10/2024 21:37

@TryingAgainAgainAgain
I wasn't on any meds for mine. As you are, you definitely need to keep an eye on it, I've seen others mentioning that they've come off/reduced BP meds quite quickly once they're on MJ - it's known for lowering it. Maybe do a whole day, hourly testing, asap.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 14/10/2024 21:49

@KrankyKumquat high 130s systolic bp isn't actually particularly high. My gp told me that they are ideally looking for readings around 135/85 or less at home. Mine was 190 something / a triple figure when they started me on medication 😬
