First injection on Friday.

I am a massive compulsive eater. It's not hunger. I can feel like I'm going to be sick I'm so full and I will still try and add another biscuit.

It gone. I just...I don't know... it's just gone. The desire. The compulsion. The constant thoughts about what I will eat, what's in the fridge, where am I going today and what food outlets are near there?

It's 1.30 and I've not eaten anything.

I've just put my shopping away and usually I would HONESTLY eat so much. Put away the crisps and eat a packet. Put away thw kids brioche, eat one. New meat, make a sandwich. A yogurt etc

I didn't touch a thing.

What is this sorcery???

I think this is a placebo effect as I think it takes about a month to start working.

The first dose is usually to get your body adjusted to the medication/potential side effects.

Unless you started on a high dose?

I’m not judging you though, what works is great!
Just don’t be concerned if your appetite increases a little.

Keep going OP you are doing great ❤️

My starter dose of 0.25mg of Wegovy hit me like a ton of bricks within a day of my first injection. I lost 2-3 pounds per week for the four weeks I was on that dosage, and if the Reddit Wegovy forum is to be believed, that's not uncommon. One reason you have to keep upping the dose is because your body thinks you're starving and other mechanisms kick in to get you to eat.

How quickly does Wegovy work?

How long does it take for Wegovy to work?

Wegovy starts working right away, reaching its maximum effect in the body within one to three days. However, because Wegovy is started at a lower dose and slowly increased, it takes some time to get to the maintenance dose of Wegovy, which is 1.7 or 2.4 mg per week.

A child who is fed - even if that's exclusively from brioche and crisps - is healthier than a child who is starving to death. That's the alternative when it comes to ARFID so the concept of 'healthy' and 'unhealthy' foods really doesn't apply. Those labels are luxuries for people who have choice over what they eat. If it's a case of 'food' or 'no food' then food is the healthy option, whatever that food is.

What happens when you come off them? Is your palate retrained so you don’t slip back into old habits and put it all back on?

That entirely depends on the person and their motivation and intention

I'm curious about something. When you do eat when using these injections, do you derive any pleasure from it? Or do the injections kill those feelings?

Now that the initial sorcery of food noise /compulsion/ lack of appetite has gone....I do enjoy food still but it's just that. Enjoyment and no more. I'm not obsessed with it.
I'm mid point in my cycle and usually as this time I'd be a ravenous binge eating mess. I've had a handful of fizzy sweets and left it at that, despite being at home all day. I've had a normal size tea. Not gone to nibble or have a few extra bites.

I'm moving up to 5mg to see if I can get that suppression feeling back again to make a bigger dent in my weight loss as I'm averaging 1.5-2lbs per week atm.

Yes but it gives you thyroid cancer and kidney damage.

No it doesn't. Not one case or thyroid cancer in humans. Not heard of kidney damage either.

This is the injectable weight loss board so how about you skip back to your eat less and move more board with the rest of the trolls.

Ive been thinking about starting Mounjaro as I am about 4 stone overweight, I have Hashimotos and this has caused me to gain a lot of weight during flareups although I must also confess to having a sweet tooth too.

Has anyone else used Mounjaro with Hashimoto's, if so have you still found it effective and has there been any negative impact on your Hashimotos symptoms?

Yes very effective. Mounjaro helps with inflammation. Hashimoto causes inflammation so mj helps with this.

I have an under active thyroid / hashimoto and it's helped for sure. I've lost over 5st and feel a lot better.

I think it kind of dulls the enjoyment. Pre MJ I guess you'd feel pleasure when eating choc /junk food etc. When on MJ the food tastes the same, but the pleasure /rush you felt went eating these foods have gone. So they don't hit the same way.

SecondFavouriteDinosaur · 23/09/2024 20:56

I still get the same enjoyment from food, I just can’t eat as much of it. In some ways I think im enjoying food more, because I know I can just have a few mouthfuls and feel satisfied.

What happens when you come off them? Is your palate retrained so you don’t slip back into old habits and put it all back on?

That's down to each individual person. If you put in effort to change your eating habits, get into a good routine with calorie counting, meal planning, go to gym etc, then you are more likely to be successful if you decide to come off the medication. If you don't put steps in to change your ways you might struggle if coming off the meds.

MJ you don't have to come off of and can stay on for maintenance. Some people find success by going back down the doses slowly.

Can I please get some advice? As you can see from my usernane it’s a big thing for me! I tried wegovy pen last year and honestly I felt it was a waste of money. I got it from an online pharmacy. What did I do wrong? I did a whole month and followed all the instructions. My stomach felt bloated and I just felt really off so something was definitely happening but I ate loads! I actually put weight on so I don’t understand how it works so well for everyone else

Wegovy isn't as good as Mounjaro. Most people report instant supression when on MJ. I suggest you give that a go.

There is a small percentage of people that MJ doesn't work for so that is possible, but hopefully MJ will work for you as it does for most people.

This might be the wrong thread to ask about this - but I've been considering mounjaro, but have read that some people have experienced hair loss when on the injections. As I've experienced hair loss in the past, I'm concerned. Has anyone here experienced this side effect on mounjaro?

Unfortunately it's something that happens with weight loss. I avoided it for about 6 months but it's starting now. Not sure it's avoidable but make sure you are eating protein as that helps.

People who do not have diabetes have not been taking them for a long time.

This doesn't make sense. Why would a diabetic person taking it be less likely to have long terms effects than someone that started on them without diabetes.

You may think the posters reply was aggressive, but it is pretty tiring seeing the same judgement from people time and time again. The people on MJ have done their research, they know the benefits and the side effects. They know the heresy arguements and the facts. It is frustrating when people that haven't done any research parrot something they have heard.

Also frustrating that once again a discussion about weight loss drugs has been hijacked by people wanting to slate these drugs. If the op had started a topic about heart pressure meds, or depression meds or aspirin, most of the judgy people wouldn't be coming on the thread to pass on their nuggets of wisdom.

@KittyGetSmall and@LordBummenbachsMagnificentBalls - I follow an American lady on instagram who posts a lot about weight loss medication and she has Hashimotos. Her page is cgo_ofme. She is also currently following an anti inflammatory diet and looks great. She is very American and posts about a lot of foods we can’t get but lots of information about Hashimotos.

@CockneyWheezer - I think I may had ADD to an extent and I think for me it is the dopamine hit I get from bread that makes it so hard. Bread has always always been my downfall. But when I was on Ozempic and Wegovy I could take it or leave it. I don’t know if I would ever be medicated for the ADD as I don’t know enough about it and have only really realised it recently. But it’s very interesting to read about your experience with your medication. And nobody has an issue with you taking medication for ADHD!

That's interesting about the America woman. I'll look her up. I follow someone on tiktok who had fibromyalgia and hashi and her fibromyalgia is in remission and her hashi has improved massively. Chaz I think her name is. I will follow the person mentioned 😊

MissConductUS · 23/09/2024 21:24

She is very American

😂

I always thought it was binary - you either were an American or you weren't.

Peridot1 · 23/09/2024 22:11

@MissConductUS - I missed a word out! Very American focused is what I meant to say! (And aren’t most Americans a mix of various heritages? 😀)

We are quite a variety of heritages, but we are all Americans. The cultural difference tend to disappear in the second generation.

Peridot1 · 24/09/2024 13:12

@MissConductUS - I know. I was joking. 😀
