First injection on Friday.

I am a massive compulsive eater. It's not hunger. I can feel like I'm going to be sick I'm so full and I will still try and add another biscuit.

It gone. I just...I don't know... it's just gone. The desire. The compulsion. The constant thoughts about what I will eat, what's in the fridge, where am I going today and what food outlets are near there?

It's 1.30 and I've not eaten anything.

I've just put my shopping away and usually I would HONESTLY eat so much. Put away the crisps and eat a packet. Put away thw kids brioche, eat one. New meat, make a sandwich. A yogurt etc

I didn't touch a thing.

What is this sorcery???

@Starbarr07 - I didn’t find that. I was on Ozempic and then Wegovy. Still enjoyed food. And it had zero effect on my wine consumption sadly. And I was so happy to have lost weight. Funny how they affect people differently.

ElsaMars · 22/09/2024 14:25

I'm a totally different person on Monjuro, this is what it must be like to be a normal eater. I've been trying to find the right 'diet' my whole life, for me this is it.

There's no deprivation and obsessing over food because I'm just a bit meh about it and if I want something, I have it. Ate a piece of chocolate cake earlier because I fancied it, other times I'll be like, absolutely no chance am I eating that, and I'll feel full just looking at it.

The only down side is I've completely gone off drinking, which is good for weight loss but I miss it and I think people are wondering what the hell is wrong with me!

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 22/09/2024 14:27

This might be the wrong thread to ask about this - but I've been considering mounjaro, but have read that some people have experienced hair loss when on the injections. As I've experienced hair loss in the past, I'm concerned. Has anyone here experienced this side effect on mounjaro?

CiderJabs · 22/09/2024 14:31

@timeforanewmoniker this is getting boring now. Every single time someone is positive about the injections, a fuckwit will come and say it gives you cancer. So why hang around this forum in the first place? Just go and mind your own business elsewhere as you are really not welcome here.

timeforanewmoniker · 22/09/2024 14:05

Yes but it gives you thyroid cancer and kidney damage.

No if doesn't HTH

Gazelda · 22/09/2024 15:07

I'm still astonished at how it instantly changed my approach to food. It used to be on my mind at every waking moment, now it's just out of function - what do I need to cook for dinner, have I eaten a good amount of protein today etc.

I'm now at 7.5ml dose, and I have a bit more appetite. So I'm taking advantage by re-training myself to enjoy healthier food than I used to.

The only downside so far is when we go out to dinner. I know that I wouldn't be able to manage more than half a main course, so I generally end up ordering salad or fish. But I envy those on my table who've ordered food I love such as sausage & mash, shepherds pie, roast etc. followed by a dessert. I no longer feel as though a meal out is a treat (apart from the social interaction, obviously).

From spending quite a lot of time on these threads (anxiously before starting and then since) I’ve seen a wide range of possible side effects discussed. Personally I have had none, beyond feeling cold on injection day. But I suspect it is hugely individual and others sharing their experiences isn’t massively helpful to know whether you will have a a specific side effect.

HerCanineTeeth · 22/09/2024 15:27

Mounjaro has made me able to meal plan and enthusiastic about cooking. I like thinking about lunches I'll make in the week - a charred corn, avocado and chorizo salad; brown rice with kimchi, green veg and a fried egg; roasted vegetables with tahini dressing, a vegetable frittata with fresh herbs - zesty, tasty, nourishing food I can look forward to because I haven't been munching carbs all morning and lost my hunger or I don't nibble the whole time I'm cooking and end up eating dinner when I've already filled up on snacks. It has made me enjoy food so much more through eating less of it, and eating food I actually want to eat. I'm not tempted by cakes or crisps, a square of dark chocolate is enough and I don't have much interest in alcohol either. I'm seeing a personal trainer, exercising every day and building as much fun and satisfying movement into my life as I can.

I'm hoping to keep some of the cooking habits and recipes, as well as the exercise habits, and I'm losing weight slowly and steadily at about 2lbs a week so I think I'll be on the injections at least a year. I hope that I might have trained in some good habits and portion control by then and built strength and muscle, but I do feel anxious about my full appetite roaring back to life.

I also hope none of the serious side effects happen to me - I don't know what else I can do, as being obese carries so many dire health risks apparently and I have tried so many times to lose weight other ways - I've been trying my whole life since I was about ten years old and nothing ever works long term. I don't know if this will either, but the alternative is giving up. After thirty years on different diets, there comes a point when you just can't eat less and move more, your body and brain stop cooperating and nothing works - except this. It's been the biggest life changer I've ever experienced.

You know what they say though right, if something seems too good to be true it usually is.

Yes but it gives you thyroid cancer and kidney damage.

This is extremely rare.

You know what they say though right, if something seems too good to be true it usually is.

People say lots of trite things that they trot out as magical wisdom and self evident truths, but they don't always apply. Sometimes medical and scientific advances really do change people's lives for the better. Sometimes it goes wrong. But people complained about hand-washing before surgery, got suspicious about antibiotics, heaven knows there is a lot of scepticism about vaccines! And yet these innovations save health and save lives. So yeah, weight loss drugs have been brought to market with horrific consequences in the past. But maybe these ones will be like the discovery of penicillin - we just don't know. I'll bet there were people who thought it was too good to be true that a class of drugs could stop all those people dying of infections we don't give a second thought to now, but they did. And maybe the time has come for a weight loss drug that actually works and benefits people's health. You don't know this isn't it.

Jesss21 · 22/09/2024 15:53

Saxenda just made me so sick and then wore off so back to normal appetite.
Ozempic made me a little sick and wore off really quickly too.
Mountjaro is fab - no side effects and v reduced appetite.

Don't write them off after trying just one.

HowManyDaysUntillXmas · 22/09/2024 16:01

But what happens when you stop???

SilenceInside · 22/09/2024 16:04

@KittyGetSmall I was pretty much the same. Had the same almost immediate response on doing the first injection. Just, not interested in snacking, or in obsessing about food. I just eat at mealtimes, and am happy with a small portion. I habitually use a small plate now, and eat mainly protein and non carby veg. Food tastes exactly the same, I'm just not as obsessed by it as I was and have no interest in fatty, salty things like I used to be.

My mood is great and I am really enjoying the lack of mental stress around my weight and eating.

SilenceInside · 22/09/2024 16:05

@HowManyDaysUntillXmas most people, according to the large scale studies, keep some of the weight off. It's the same as any other weight loss approach, maintenance is the key. There is no diet plan that does a better job of producing maintainable weight loss.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/09/2024 16:15

@PunishmentRoundupWithJoon hair loss can happen with any rapid weight loss but should be only temporary. I definitely shedding more than usual at the moment despite taking all of the precautions I could find. I have to say that I find it a small price to pay for the immense changes that Mounjaro has made to my life. As I have written on here before, if I never lose another pound, I still want to stay on this medication for as long as I can!

unlikely, unless you're super morbidly obese.

you put it all back on, and then some. you don't keep any of it off, you just go back to your old cravings.

you put it all back on, and then some. you don't keep any of it off, you just go back to your old cravings.

Can't that be said for any diet?

Even Iif someone loses 100lbs through fantastic food and exercise they could put it all back on if they go back to their old bad habits.

So no fat person should bother losing weight at all incase they gain it all back?

Why are you on this thread? All you're doing is shitting on people's experiences.

My sister lost 7stone going to the gym. She's regained 6 stone even though she did it 'right'.

Weightloss is a battle for many people and this is a fantastic tool. It's not magic, tou still have to put the work in, especially when you come off it.

crap? it's called the side effects, if you read the packaging you'll see them on there.

it's dangerous to be going around promoting something that causes cancer and organ damage as a miracle cure, balanced information is needed.

I will admit i’m still working this out. I’ve become quite protein and veg averse since being on the injections- they just don’t appeal. I was the same in pregnancy. I’m never one for masses of protein - i make myself eat it for satiety- but i usually eat loads of veg.

I’m losing on carbs, because I am eating so much less overall, but i’m also aware that i need a plan for when i come off them. I think I will try and factor in a longish maintenance phase on a lower dose and hopefully then my love of veggies will come back!

Glad you’ve said this, I’ve read so much about needing protein, but all I really want is bland carbs. I feel I could exist on plain crackers, but obviously that’s not ideal!
