First injection on Friday.

I am a massive compulsive eater. It's not hunger. I can feel like I'm going to be sick I'm so full and I will still try and add another biscuit.

It gone. I just...I don't know... it's just gone. The desire. The compulsion. The constant thoughts about what I will eat, what's in the fridge, where am I going today and what food outlets are near there?

It's 1.30 and I've not eaten anything.

I've just put my shopping away and usually I would HONESTLY eat so much. Put away the crisps and eat a packet. Put away thw kids brioche, eat one. New meat, make a sandwich. A yogurt etc

I didn't touch a thing.

What is this sorcery???

Wow that's amazing

Peridot1 · 22/09/2024 16:47

Well as someone who came off Wegovy six weeks ago I have to say I’ve really struggled since. Craving carbs. In fact it’s more a compulsion. Bread especially.

I’m starting Mounjaro tomorrow and can’t wait to not feel obsessed by food any more. To get back to wanting the healthy protein and fibre heavy meals I was eating and enjoying and satisfied by when on Wegovy. I’ve switched as Wegovy sort of stopped working for me. I think I will be one of those who may need to be on it for life so I wanted to switch to Mounjaro as I’m hopeful that as it is supposed to work better I can be on a lower dose going forward for maintenance.

crap? it's called the side effects, if you read the packaging you'll see them on there.

it's dangerous to be going around promoting something that causes cancer and organ damage as a miracle cure, balanced information is needed.

IBUPROFEN

OK. This injection is crazy

What happens when you come off them? Is your palate retrained so you don’t slip back into old habits and put it all back on?

Unfortunately the food noise and the hunger come back and if you need to be very careful not to put the weight back . I have been off it since July and i put on 3kg .

LordBummenbachsMagnificentBalls · 22/09/2024 16:49

Ive been thinking about starting Mounjaro as I am about 4 stone overweight, I have Hashimotos and this has caused me to gain a lot of weight during flareups although I must also confess to having a sweet tooth too.

Has anyone else used Mounjaro with Hashimoto's, if so have you still found it effective and has there been any negative impact on your Hashimotos symptoms?

But surely if you're obese it's better to lose the vast majority of the weight and if you do regain a small amount like 3kg you can keep it in check rather than being 30kg overweight overall?

It's the same with every weightloss journey.

The hardest part if lifelong consistency

I have hashimotos but I don't think I've been on it long enough to feel any changes, positive or negative

I haven't looked into this. Was waiting to hear if it was any good and it sounds it. Is it expensive ? Do you inject yourself or is it done at a clinic ?

CockneyWheezer · 22/09/2024 16:51

It’s really interesting. I’ve never taken a weight loss drug, but the effect people describe sounds like my ADHD meds (amphetamine-based…recently found out they are also used for binge-eating disorder). Just a total quietening of the desire to seek comfort/happiness in food. It’s like magic.

If I give my meds a miss for a day or two (which I need to do now and then as they sometimes affect my sleep) the food compulsion comes back within 24 hours, though. Wonder if it’s the same with these drugs?

sausagepastapot · 22/09/2024 16:56

Mj has been and continues to be so effective for me, but my only advice is you really have got to force yourself to eat, as straight up starving will make you very very ill. So please do really try to eat, I stick to about 1000 healthy calories a day (protein, veg, fruit, some carbs, dairy, a little fat). It is miraculous.

Peridot1 · 22/09/2024 16:58

@KittyGetSmall and@LordBummenbachsMagnificentBalls - I follow an American lady on instagram who posts a lot about weight loss medication and she has Hashimotos. Her page is cgo_ofme. She is also currently following an anti inflammatory diet and looks great. She is very American and posts about a lot of foods we can’t get but lots of information about Hashimotos.

@CockneyWheezer - I think I may had ADD to an extent and I think for me it is the dopamine hit I get from bread that makes it so hard. Bread has always always been my downfall. But when I was on Ozempic and Wegovy I could take it or leave it. I don’t know if I would ever be medicated for the ADD as I don’t know enough about it and have only really realised it recently. But it’s very interesting to read about your experience with your medication. And nobody has an issue with you taking medication for ADHD!

fossilgap · 22/09/2024 17:00

I am fascinated by your old eating habits
You ate a whole packet of biscuits in a day?

I have an ADHD assessment coming up so will.be interesting to see results of that If I get medicated

Lol I get that - sorry.
But its just fascinating. It must have preoccupied you all day - like an alcoholic. finding food, finding time to eat it

I think this is a placebo effect as I think it takes about a month to start working.

The first dose is usually to get your body adjusted to the medication/potential side effects.

Unless you started on a high dose?

I’m not judging you though, what works is great!
Just don’t be concerned if your appetite increases a little.

Keep going OP you are doing great ❤️

I do t know though because I've taken every available thing out there. Orlistat, many fad pills, I've had hypnosis (so if it was a placebo isn't hypnosis the biggest placebo?) And that did nothing.

I also took a different weightloss injection, saxenda and that did nothing but make me vomit and I still wanted to eat everything. So why didn't saxenda do the same if it's in my mind?

I've been on the Semaglutide ( tablet form) and I can't take it. The starter dose wasn't too bad although I felt very overfull and couldn't eat much at all. The normal dose which I was put on after a few weeks, made me very, very unwell.

These drugs work by slowing down the speed that food passes through your digestive system, so you feel full. It also increases the amount of Insulin released by your pancreas which helps move glucose into your body cells away from the blood, to help with energy

It mimics the GLP-1 Hormone which inter-reacts with the part of the brain which supresses appetite

It also reduces the amount of glucose produced by your liver

As a Diabetic I wanted to be able to take this, and I was so unwell on it, I had no choice but to stop taking it.

butterfly0404 · 22/09/2024 17:13

It's a game changer isn't it ? I'm 3 months in, have lost just a shade under 2 stone. It has changed my relationship with food and also my GP and Gastro Consultant both endorse it.

My GP said it is saving lives And she wishes she could prescribe it for patients for weight loss.

My former high blood pressure has now stabilised and my chronic asthma has improved. The mild side effects I've had are temporary and the benefits hugely outweigh the risk.

timeforanewmoniker · 22/09/2024 14:05

Yes but it gives you thyroid cancer and kidney damage.

Thats funny, my OH's diabetic team didnt mention these side effects, he has been on these drugs for about 5 years now......

Flossflower · 22/09/2024 17:17

OP, good luck for the next few months
BUT
please stop buying crisps and biscuits. Nobody in your family needs them. They are just empty calories. The only time I buy biscuits is if we have workmen in. I never buy crisps. My adult children have not missed out because I did not buy them. They don’t eat them now.

I'm curious about something. When you do eat when using these injections, do you derive any pleasure from it? Or do the injections kill those feelings?

I still get great pleasure from eating.
I just eat a lot less than before.

I've lost 5st since January.

Peridot1 · 22/09/2024 17:19

@Silvers11 - I tried Rybelsus at one point as I was travelling and didn’t want to bring the injection with me. I felt quite ill on the tablets. Was fine on the injection though. Or Mounjaro might agree with you more?

And being obese will give me a dozen life threatening problems

It gives rats thyroid cancer. Fairly sure the OP isn’t a rat. They can’t type.

jasminocereusbritannicus · 22/09/2024 17:19

I have Ozempic free on prescription as I’m a type 2diabetic. It made me really sick and unwell for the first 4-6 months, but it’s fine now. Sometimes I can almost forget to eat. Occasionally, I eat a bit too much and feel bloated for ages , but nothing like the way I used to eat before and I’ve gone from almost 23 stone to just over 16 stone, so far. It would never have happened if I’d been left to my own devices.
