My first pen is out for delivery this morning!.....any tips for me as I get going on a very long journey?

mimosa1 · 28/09/2024 10:38

Hi @PotatoBreadForTheWin how annoying. Hopefully the 5mg dose does the trick instead. It's meant to be the clinical dose and 2.5 is the loading dose only so keeping fingers crossed for you. Have you been able to speak to a clinician? I'm on Voy and want to talk to someone about splitting doses and I've now got an appointment but yet to have it so not sure how helpful they will be. If you're with a pharmacy / app that offers it, could you organise an online appointment?

@Peachesandfizz hope you feel better soon
@Hildabaggins I had AWFUL side effects too but seem to be fine on a 1.25mg dose. The suppression does wear off a couple of days earlier so I'm going to speak to Voy about doing 1.25mg every 4 days. Let's see what they say. Maybe you could talk to your provider about something similar?

@Latelifelesbian @sylv165 I've been thinking about the exact same thing. Weight is coming off despite not doing anything differently except smaller portions. In the past though, only low carbing has worked and I can't keep it up. I don't understand it though pleased it's working.

Like many of us, I'm seeing progress on the scales but not in appearance / clothes. A friend told me about the kitchen roll analogy. You take off a sheet in the beginning and it looks like nothing has happened but later on, one sheet makes a big difference in the thickness of the roll! Hoping for similar ;-)

End of week 2 and a good result for weigh in again - another 6lbs!

SW 294
CW 282
Mini goal weight 279 by the end of half term

12lbs loss

I have not totally deprived myself, I have not told anyone that I'm dieting (apart from DH) so when eating with others I just make sure that I eat the healthy parts and just have really small bits of the less nutritious foods. I am in this for the very long haul and I do not want to mess about with my metabolism so I think it is important to not have a specific diet.

We have been using Hello Fresh the past few weeks and being able to order in advance really helps with making good choices.

Good luck this week to everyone else

SecondDesk · 28/09/2024 11:04

Weight day, and fourth dose tonight. -2 lbs off, total off since 7 Sep 24 is -7.5. Still fighting to get into the stone bracket below. I added in IF this week and have stuck to calorie deficit religioulsy. Remain a bit deflated, mostly because I thought this would be easier. Just one boost would do me.

I suppose a lot of people are slow and steady like me. If I keep losing 2lbs off per week. I could be down a total of 2 stone 3.5lbs by Xmas. That would put me from obese to top of the overweight range.

NellieBelly · 28/09/2024 11:23

4th Jab of 2.5mg today. So far have lost 4lb which is very dissapointing. Yesterday around 4pm I was really hungry, I haven't felt like that for years, I suppose in the past I would have a cup of coffee and some biscuits and not got to the hungry stage. So far I have not had any appetite supression or on the plus side no side effects.
Today I took my usual dose and topped up with whatever was in the pen. Next week I start the 5mg pen and am hoping for a little more progress.
I am a lot older than the rest of you so I think my natural Metabolism is slower or non existent.
I have not had any sweets, cakes or desserts since I started and I am very happy about that as they are my downfall. I lie, I had one small tub of haagen dazs.
If weight loss does not improve on the 5mg I will gladly accept the weekly 2lb loss and be thankful to lose anything.

Loss over 3 weeks...4lb

For those not seeing visual loss but seeing the scales go down, this might cheer you up. Mounjaro is known for being really effective at burning deep body fat that surrounds organs (and is the worst kind) so that is likely what’s happening!

raspberrymeringue · 28/09/2024 11:43

Morning all.

@mimosa1 I am so pleased to see that you are still getting suppression at 1.25mg, are you experiencing any sides now? I did not take my 4th jab which would have been yesterday as the sides from the previous jabs were so extreme, and I have a holiday coming up. Glad to say the sides have stopped totally, that happened about 5 days after the 1.25mg dose last Friday week. My appetite is now returning (it took a while) so it'll be willpower just to try and keep my 7lb MJ loss, until after the hol. Hoping to restart on a half dose like you are.

Peachesandfizz · 28/09/2024 12:08

@mimosa1 I actually managed to sleep last night so the world feels different and better today!
Should have weighed this morning but I forgot!
Did manage to get into a pair of jeans I bought two years ago and previously couldn't do up, so that's a definite win!

MissBPotter · 28/09/2024 12:51

It’s really helpful seeing all of your experiences. I am three days in and already seem to have lost a bit, so that’s encouraging. Definite appetite suppression. I’ve only had a tiny breakfast and feel fine. Really trying to keep up with exercise as apparently that helps with keeping it off long term.

Im now feeling really energetic which is strange! My dh is delighted as I’ve been cleaning and tidying the house a lot more than usual.

only real side effect apart from on appetite/fullness is feeling quite cold. Anyone else? I guess I just need to wear more layers etc.

I’ve found that. The scales may not be shifting with actual weight, but I have body fat scales and I see them dropping with body fat and rising with body water - it keeps me going! I have no patience, I weigh every day, I know you aren’t supposed to, but it helps me keep my brain focused.

Dont be worried about doing the injection, much easier than you would think.

I find it helps massively to rely on the experience of others on this thread. I'm not a prolific poster but the info I found here has been invaluable.

Dont get hung up on any side effects, most people have said they passed quickly. I have had any side effects, am losing steadily and very happy as I come to my fourth 2.5mg.

Good luck, you can definitely do it

20bloodypounds · 28/09/2024 15:14

@Darkbutstarrynight if you have side effects treat them - no point in being miserable. I had a mini pharmacy before I started but I've only needed the antacid tablets, so far.

😂 I too over prepared! I have heartburn tablets, diarrhea tablets, laxatives, painkillers, sleep aids.

no side effects have materialized. I do drink loads of water and take fibre gummies and vitamins every day.

I have had a headache - but I also have a bad cold so can’t blame it on the mounjaro.

sylv165 · 28/09/2024 16:02

I'm the same @Bellyblueboy, only a slight headache to report despite the mini pharmacy in my bathroom bought just in case! Hoping that doesn't change 🤞

LucyBnotG · 28/09/2024 16:18

@Bellyblueboy I've not seen fibre gummies before, where do you get yours please?

Itisallgoingtobeok · 28/09/2024 16:48

The last few days have been very strange. I took my 4th jab last Wednesday. Since the jab I have woken up feeling like a new person. I am bursting with energy, happiness, and joy. I guess it might be that I am eating better, and have lost some weight, but I am only a stone down and have another 5 to go.

Has anyone else had this? I hope it continues!

SpottyBumPony · 28/09/2024 18:29

My mood has improved too, I spent 15 minutes on a roundabout with DS6 this afternoon laughing our heads off while we span.

My watch felt uncomfortable and I realised it was because it was too loose!

I put on weight at my mid week weigh in, at first I was disappointed but I’m trying to believe that my self worth isn’t reliant on loosing weight. I’m on my period, had done a work out and had a glass of wine the night before so I am probably holding water.

I’m staying with MiL tonight, she’s ready to open the wine and we’re having fish and chips 😁 that’s the ups and downs of life

GoldieLocks09 · 28/09/2024 18:35

Checking in! Love hearing how everyone is getting on and sending well wishes to everyone who’s feeling a bit rubbish on it 💐

yesterday was DH’s birthday and he requested an Indian, I was terrified I’d over indulge and ruin my hard work but actually it was the opposite. I put a small amount of rice on my plate, fished out a few king prawns from the pathia which I don’t think is too bad anyway as not creamy and specifically went for a chicken tikka starter so no sauce, just a couple of bits of chicken and DH put some naan on my plate which I had 3 odd bites of and 1 popadom. Wasn’t even tempted by the bhajis, samosas or even the saag paneer! Focused on protein first and was comfortably full with what I had. Usually I’d have had half of everything and finished it - DH said he’d never been so full as there was so much left compared to normal he kept dipping in for more!

Today I had a few bites of breaded fish for lunch (left over from what I’d served DS’s, avoided party food while we were out this afternoon by having a Pepsi max and have planned steak for dinner with veggies but I’m actually not even in the slightest bit hungry! Will try and eat some steak to get the protein in.

Wish me luck for tomorrow. DH’s family are over and we’re having a picky super light lunch (pitta, crisps, dips etc) so I’m going to try and fill up on the carrot sticks, cucumber, pepper I’ll serve with it then it was agreed we’d have a Chinese together. Thinking of getting beef in black bean and some stir fried mushrooms. Could really do without it but his birthday is only once a year and come Monday we’ll be back to the grind with our ‘normal’ meals.

mimosa1 · 28/09/2024 20:49

Hi @raspberrymeringue I haven't had any side effects on 1.25mg except for feeling v cold at times, similar to some other posters. The suppression worked very well from Sunday to Friday, but by Friday I could feel it wear off. That said, I'd had to get up extremely early, so that could explain why I wanted sugary things so much. Anyway, I am much happier on this dose for now. Still managed to lose 1.1kg on 1.25 last week so I'll take it! Hope you have a lovely holiday and that everyone else has an easy time of it next week.

alwaysscared · 28/09/2024 20:57

I'm really struggling with the hunger. Took my 4th dose yesterday and am so hungry. I just binged some sweets which I feel terrible about but I'm like this when I'm hungry (I have a binge eating disorder and food makes me feel better if I'm having a panic attack, feeling woozy, feeling sick etc)
I'm gutted that the doc has decided to keep me on 2.5 because this hunger is bad. I managed on willpower last week, but I just don't know if I can do that again.
I want to speak to the doc but she is on holiday this week so I have no choice but to do 2.5 next week too.

Nooneknowsbutme · 28/09/2024 21:19

@mimosa1 order some insulin needles and extract it that way. Trying to force click the pen often doesn't work. I'm on my 5th pen and have used an insulin needle every time.

Super easy, guaranteed & it measures, so you know how much you're getting.

Nooneknowsbutme · 28/09/2024 21:21

@KittyGetSmall each pen will have a 5th dose in it, but you need an insulin needle to extract it.
You can 'forcefully turn' and hope it works, but it often doesn't.
I'm on my 5th pen and have had 5 doses from each

Bellyblueboy · 28/09/2024 21:21

I have a stupid question about the golden shot. Is it enough for a fifth week, or do people use it to boost their fourth shot?

20bloodypounds · 28/09/2024 21:34

@Bellyblueboy I think there could be a big MN black market in unused pharmaceuticals, people who (thought they) ordered 10 needles and got 10 packs of 10 needles...

20bloodypounds · 28/09/2024 21:46

@GoldieLocks09 one difference I've found between this and every other diet is that I can go to a Chinese restaurant, or an Indian, or a fast food place, and I only eat what I really want/have space for. I don't feel I'm denying myself by having to order the low calories or low carb options, I usually stick to the starters and feel so full I can't even finish.

@alwaysscared are there other foods than you can have prepared and in your fridge for when you feel hungry and in a panic? Can you make up some rollitos (a little piece of cheese wrapped in ham) or have some tuna pate ready to spread on an oatcake? Or hard boiled eggs. Or a small handful of almonds (probably about 6 or 7 nuts).
