Was anyone a bit scared to start?

My order for Mounjaro has been approved and it should be with me in the next couple of days. I'm trying to remember that this is a legitimate medication prescribed for other medical conditions but I'm a bit scared!!

Did anyone else feel like this before they started the injections?

Yes! But by the second week, you won’t give it a second thought. It’s tried and tested medication used by diabetics for years. (Unlike the Covid jab we all queued up for!).
Go for it, I feel healthier and fitter already. (1 month in). But do it properly… reeducate your eating habits & strength train, otherwise it might as well be another yo-yo slimming world-style fad.

Redlightbulb · 21/08/2024 15:35

I felt a bit nervous/apprehensive as it is the unknown and you hear of a handful of people having really bad side effects.
What I did feel is a bit shameful that it has come to me having to inject myself with something as I can't control my appetite when there are people starving in other parts of the world.
But go for it and don't look back :)

AnnieMcFanny · 21/08/2024 15:39

No. I was more scared of getting up once more and having to find it in me to try and lose weight on my own. It was soul destroying. Five days in and I have the biggest spring in my step.

Pinkjenny · 21/08/2024 16:01

Thank you! I'm so tired of thinking about my weight. It's exhausting trying one thing, then another, then another, starting again every Monday.

Yes I was! Was worried about how bad side effects would be and my ability to stick myself with a needle.

both are far easier than my imagination!!

Yes, mine came today and I'm feeling a bit apprehensive! I've agreed with my partner to start over the long weekend while I'm not working, in case of side effects.

Pinkjenny · 21/08/2024 17:08

My plan is to start next week. It's definitely a bit worrying!! Also agree with others that it feels a bit sad that it has come to this. But I'm fed up of never succeeding.

A bit scared is an understatement, but I was also scared of the significant impact my obesity is having on my health.

It was a case of picking my poison, and MJ was the least deadly.

Are you still comfortable that it was right for you?

@Pinkjenny Absolutely glad I started. I am only on my 9th week and it will be a long journey for me. I've lost 2st with only minor side effects.

I expect to be on MJ for a year or more, hopefully on lower doses and hopefully no new side effects, so I lose more steadily rather than quickly.

Pinkjenny · 21/08/2024 19:09

That's great, you've done so well!

Yes I was so nervous and worried about injecting a drug, even if it was prescribed. But 1 April was my first injection I weighed 16st, weight now is 12st1lb.

I feel so much better and healthier, it's absolutely been worth it.

noclouds · 21/08/2024 19:14

Just to echo others I have had very little side effects. Really the only side effects I've had are when I eat really greasy, fatty food.

I have been eating a normal meal with the family every evening and even had 2 weeks at all inclusive and managed really well

Pinkjenny · 21/08/2024 19:56

This is all very reassuring.

Will do! :-)

I was tempted by all the great success stories on here, but then someone mentioned the nausea was like having Hyperemesis again and I can't put myself through that again. However, you've paid for it now and I guess if it makes you feel rough you can just stop it.

MelainesLaugh · 21/08/2024 21:25

I did my first jab today. I’ve been putting it off for a week and in the end decided I just had to do it.

I have the lowest pain threshold ever but it didn’t hurt one bit. I’m now quite excited

honkifyalikebeans · 21/08/2024 21:46

Terrified, I was absolutely terrified. It sat in my fridge for 3 weeks before I dared start it. I spent weeks googling research papers.

It's the best thing I could have done for my health. I have chosen (willingly because it looks yummy to me) to eat salad for either lunch or dinner (or both) almost every single day since. It's been 5 weeks and I've lost 20 pounds. But it's not the weight that's impressive to me, it's not the hunger suppressing, it's that I actively want to eat stuff that's nutritious. Before Mounjaro every meal was poor quality and I often smothered that in butter or salt to get my 'hit'.

Pinkjenny · 21/08/2024 22:03

I've spent today frantically googling it and it hasn't even been dispatched yet as far as I can see Smile

SevernWonders · 21/08/2024 23:01

Yes v nervous, but it was painless and I have been lucky to have minimal symptoms and good losses.

happygertie · 22/08/2024 00:55

Mine arrived yesterday, it's sat in fridge.
I think I worry that it's just too good to be true for me, like I have spent most my life overweight and this can remedy that in a few months, seems wild!

NewLifter · 22/08/2024 07:31

Oh my goodness please just go for it! It definitely won't do anything for you in the fridge, but if you start taking it, it may well change your life!
