Anyone on Mounjaro at lower BMI?

CrazyGoatLady · 20/08/2024 07:46

My first post - joined here for the Mounjaro threads!

I've just ordered my first pen. I didn't know if it would be approved as my BMI is just on 30. I have lost some through exercising/diet, but only managed 5lb since February! I'm prediabetic. My GP was useless, just kept telling me to lose weight and shoving the NHS healthy eating guidelines at me.

Weight loss has always been slow and painful for me, especially now I'm in perimenopause, also have a tendency to emotionally eat and probably have larger portions than I should. I have ADHD and that doesn't help. Calorie counting doesn't work - I feel deprived and am more likely to binge when doing it than not. What I need is to change my relationship with food and I'm hoping for the Mounjaro to help with that. I'm 5'5", currently 12 stone 10lb, GP says my ideal weight would be around 10 to 10.5 stone but for my body type I think 11 is more realistic, I do strength training and have a high % of muscle so getting down to the lower end of the BMI range probably isn't realistic for me. Obviously would also like to not have the prediabetes and worries about that getting worse.

Anyone here in a similar boat, with a stone or two to lose/using it to help with prediabetes?

I think an Apple Watch or Fitbit may do the same but it’s really opened my eyes to how different the TDEE calculator is in relation to individual tracking.

A good indicator of this is today - I have walked 6.7 miles, and the total calories burnt so far for the whole days is still only 1550.
Maybe I need my thyroid checked or something…..

MargoLivebetter · 29/08/2024 19:54

@Mounjaroattheend I have just had a rummage on my phone as I have an Apple Watch. I've discovered that on an average day my resting calorie burn is 1609! I'm 55 and reasonably fit for my age. Do 3-4 Pilates sessions a week but no gym work. I'm amazed that's what it is. I'm also amazed that information is even available, so thank you for that.

CrazyGoatLady · 29/08/2024 18:35

@Mounjaroattheend that's interesting. My Garmin watch does calculate calories burned by heart rate but I hadn't paid much attention to it before. I am active, but I think I had overestimated the calories burned doing exercise a lot. On a gym day I can burn 2400-2600 in a day but on a non gym day more like 1800-2000. I think part of the problem was eating the same on non gym days as on gym days and thinking it all would even out!

Tomorrow is starting day for me as I've had to time it to avoid needing to take it on a work trip with me later in the month, and time my next order with payday. I think just knowing I'm starting on it has made me more conscious of what/how much I'm eating this week and my clothes feel a bit looser for it. I've been making a more conscious effort not to eat when I'm not hungry.

I feel anxious about starting it tomorrow - please tell me I'm being daft and it'll be fine!

I have felt slight nausea but that's all so fingers crossed for you and good luck!

TrappedPotato · 29/08/2024 21:52

Where do you put your jabs? I did mine in my stomach but I've been reading on the FB group that a lot of them feel they have stronger suppression and fewer side effects when injecting in the back of the arm so I wondered whether to try that tomorrow for my second jab.

NewTwenty · 31/08/2024 06:32

TrappedPotato · 29/08/2024 12:28

Please can I join you all? Took my first jab on Friday and already 5lbs down so very happy with that. I wasn't quite 30 BMI, but close, so had to shave a little off my height but I needed to do something as I've been struggling with my weight for years. I'm hoping the MJ will help me learn what I actually need, rather than what I think I need! I'd like to lose 35lbs in total so 30 to go now!

Thanks for this - I will try for a bit longer with diet and exercise, plus a cholesterol test. Then if no joy I will be adjusting my height a little!

CrazyGoatLady · 01/09/2024 10:51

Did my first jab yesterday. So far, so good - the only side effect I've had is some tiredness (but I am often very tired on the weekend anyway, the impact of working full time in a demanding job while neurodivergent).

I am getting bored of eating half way through eating my food which is UNHEARD OF for me 😂 I've had to make myself finish what I'm eating so I don't massively undereat. I have been measuring portions and tracking on MFP, so I know if I stopped at half the portion I'd be eating very little and not fuelling myself properly.

No urges to snack. It's interesting because I went to the farm shop to buy some bulk carrots for the goats and I found these automatic thoughts coming into my head about the biscuits and cakes etc and then being like "but I'm not hungry so it's pointless buying one, I won't enjoy it".

Friends, this is not my normal thought process for dealing with food noise 😂

We'll see how the next week goes I guess!

@TrappedPotato I must say I am a bit envious..Well done to you and good luck. I joined at 30.1 BMI and am now on Week 3, day 2 of jab 3. Near the end of the first week on Day 6 I had only lost a pound, then I went on holiday for 2 weeks and am still here. I have been tracking calories and macros on MFP. Haven't weighed yet as when at home I am obsessed with weighing. Look forward to hearing more on this thread. Good luck to everyone!

Azuresky68 · 09/09/2024 07:38

@MJ321 how is it going? Have you decided to stick with 2.5 dose? On my 3rd week now but haven't weighed as I am away in holiday

It’s going well thanks! Weighed in at 69.7kg on week 5 2.5mg and I decided to order the 5mg pen as it was the same price as the 2.5mg with Zava. This week (week 6) I will count the clicks and stay on 2.5mg as I’m still finding I get full quickly and have limited food noise. If during month 2 I stop losing, I’ll go up to 3.75mg first and eventually 5mg if needed. I want to stay on the lower dosage for as long as possible if working.

Curious how you get on with this as this is what I'm thinking of doing. Just coming to the end of wk5 on 2.5, still losing, and tbh am enjoying not being completely put off food and having a bit of an appetite!

TrappedPotato · 09/09/2024 16:45

I'm not sure what to do with next month's pen - this is quite good idea to maybe get the 5 but still dose to 2.5. I'm still getting good suppression on the 2.5 though so I'm not sure whether to stay on the 2.5 for another month. I will see how this week goes and then decide. I'm on week 3 now and 9 lbs down so feeling very happy with how it's going.

How do you measure 3.75 mg? I am really clueless on all this. Even scared to do the bonus jab!

Willowy1982 · 09/09/2024 20:27

I'm due jab 4 on Wednesday. I've lost 10lbs now, I can't believe it. It's like magic. I'm so fortunate too that my side effects have minimal and I've had good suppression.

CrazyGoatLady · 09/09/2024 21:27

@Willowy1982 wow 10lbs is that just in the first 3 weeks?

Yes 3 weeks. I'm sure it will slow down soon. I really don't know if I will move up to 5mg as I seem to be doing OK.on 2.5mg. I will see how the next 2 weeks go I think as I intend to take bonus dose too .

From reading other threads on here I understand the 5mg works like this:
30 clicks = 2.5mg
45 clicks = 3.75mg
60 clicks = 5mg

Or you can use a syringe, 0.6ml = full dose of whatever pen you’re using.

Joining in here - started on Saturday with BMI 30

SW 201.6
CW 197
GW 154 at 5'8"

Cannot get over the lack of thinking about food - tentatively excited.

EBoo80 · 10/09/2024 08:20

weekly weigh in today and I’ve lost 6lb and 5cm on my waist during my first week on 2.5. Am delighted, but best of all I’m really enjoying being on it. Still minimal side effects and massive suppression, then feeling full quickly. I always ate excessively large but good and healthy meals, but then snacked like a fiend, so it’s working really well for me.
I also think it’s giving me headspace to reassess my relationship with food, which is where I hope the longer term change will come.
Well done everyone and hope side effects settle down for folk soon.

Thanks for info and great news. How will you measure 3.75...is it clicking or using syringe? Also when you order new pen do they question the gap between ordering 🤔 Still getting the hang of all this!

I replied to your message yesterday about how counting the clicks work, I will be doing it for the first time this week. I’ve only reordered a pen once as I’m week 5 on MJ but they didn’t ask any questions, except current weight.

If your BMI is in the 'healthy' category, but would like to lose a few more pounds, where can i buy Mounjaro? Obviously want it to be a reputable company, but the ones i have looked at want to see photos from the front and side etc. Where did you buy yours if your not classed as overweight?

Nowhere legitimate, without fraudulently applying. Your BMI needs to be 27 or over, with a weight related health condition or 27 whilst being one of a list of specific ethnicities, or a BMI over 30. Anyone with a BMI less than 27 won't or shouldn't be prescribed it.

Hi everyone,
Please can i join the group😊? I’m loving this thread and it seems very supportive and not judgy.
My first pen is due to arrive today! I’m very nervous and trying to soak up all the advice I can get. I’m only 5’2” and have a bmi of 30.
I do have a question, my stomach is fairly flat, I carry my weight on my hips, bum and boobs. Even my thighs are quite muscular from hours doing weights. Would it be ok to inject into the top of my thigh near the hip in the fleshy part, or even my bum? (the bum area would have to be a job for hubby!😵‍💫)
I’m planning on doing the injection after the gym tonight which will be around 9.30pm. Ill
have a snack, a shower, do the jab and hopefully sleep soundly with no side effects.
Wish me luck!

SilenceInside · 24/03/2025 17:53

@Pepperwaggytailif you read the patient information leaflet that will be with your injection pen you’ll see that there are detailed instructions on where and how to inject. The needle is only 4mm long, so it will be subcutaneous even if you are injecting into an area with not as much of a fat layer as other people. Your skin and fat layer will be more than 4mm in any of the possible injection sites.
