Anyone over 22 stone and wanting to try Mounjaro?

toewoe · 06/08/2024 11:23

Feeling so lonely and lost with my weight, since being diagnosed with sleep apnoea 18 months ago and a traumatic event, my weight has shot up to an insane 23 stone. I can't believe it. I'm size 26/28 currently and 5ft4.

Debating starting Mounjaro, but on the fence due to cost and side effects.

My GP just keeps referring me to the tier 1 system. I know how to lose weight as lost 5 stone over lockdown but due to my sleep apnoea I crave junk and never feel full and need the calories to function, so feeling super desperate now. Anyone a similar size and weight want to join me? I'd love to only have a few stone to lose but I know this is going to be a long journey unfortunately. Thanks for reading!

Started at 24, got down to 20 naturally. Put on nearly a stone again and I'm looking to start!

Hi @toewoe so sorry to feel you are feeling so crap. There is a lively thread on here for those with >5st to lose. Maybe look that up and have a read as there are so many supportive people on there living the same struggle.

Tbh, my side effects have been minimal and what I am saving on food cravings and alcohol easily covers the cost of my MJ!

Good luck with whatever you chose to do 🤗

The 5st thing is just a guide really, I was nearly 19 stone when I started so more like 8 stone to lose for me. I'm 21 weeks in and now 14st 9. It's nice being able to share with people doing big journeys rather than just a couple of stone. We're in this for the long haul!

I started Mounjaro a month ago at 24 stone 6. I am now 22 stone 13.

It's been an absolute miracle for me so far and I only started on 5mg last week.

I know I'll be on it for a long time. My aim is to get to 20 stone (lowest weight in 6 years) and then to 16 stone. I'm 5ft10 so while it's still obese, I'm happier.

SilenceInside · 06/08/2024 12:03

I was approaching 21st when I started, and am now down to just over 20st. Hoping to see the 19s this week or next. I have found Mounjaro to be a total game changer, it's unlike anything else I've ever tried. I just don't snack, don't ever feel particularly hungry and feel full on much smaller portions. I have spent money before on diet related things, and so far this has been the most effective use of my money.

Not to hijack the thread but what side effects have you experienced?

Torn between starting now or waiting until after my holiday at the end of the month

SilenceInside · 06/08/2024 12:20

For me, really not any serious side effects at all. No digestive issues other than a slight increase in feeling burpy this week (week 5, first week on 5mg) and nothing else. I am quite fortunate I think, as other people seem to get more digestive issues. I have a generally very robust digestion though and don't usually get an upset stomach, constipation or anything like that.

LoquaciousPineapple · 06/08/2024 12:21

I was 22st 10 when I started 13 weeks ago and I'm current 20st 5lbs. I'm aiming to get down to 15st as my main goal, and go from there to see if I can keep going.

Mounjaro has been life changing. Never before have I been so happy while dieting. I have goals planned out until the end of 2025, because I'm that optimistic that I can actually keep this diet up. Before, I'd feel like I was absolutely torturing myself, have to basically cut out any nice food and would still find I'd lost less than a pound at the end of the week. Whereas on Mounjaro, I'm eating vastly reduced amounts without really noticing, meaning that I can have treats without ruining my diet.

I’ve had really minimal side effects. The desirable ones have been strong (lack of food noise, feeling fuller quicker, slower stomach emptying). But the “bad” ones have been incredibly mild- some constipation and headaches if I’m not drinking enough water.

I'm 21 stone again... I've been avoiding weighing myself for weeks.

Just ordered Mounjaro this morning.

Just ordered it too!

SilenceInside · 06/08/2024 12:28

Just realised that I said I was approaching 21st when I started, which embarrassingly is wrong - I should have said I was approaching 22st when I started and am now down to just over 20st. So around a 20lb loss so far.

toewoe · 06/08/2024 16:40

I've just ordered it too! Who did you all decide to go with? I went with Voy in the end as I like the thought of having a coach help me with my emotional eating. I can't really afford it but I'm hoping that it'll balance out with the takeaways and chocolate I won't crave anymore!

I've gone for Voy too. Again hoping it'll balance out plus the cost of therapy for me would be £80-£160 per month!

WhatsOccurringNessa · 06/08/2024 19:50

If anyone wants a code to get £85 off your first order with Voy let me know and I can send it to you,

Voy are very reliable and offer coaching for no extra cost.

ButtSurgery · 06/08/2024 21:35

Chemist 4U - only because I wanted a reputable pharmaceutical company to start off with at least.

ChangeEmailAddress · 08/08/2024 00:00

Just do it, my only regret is not starting sooner. Started with a BMI over 50.

35lbs lighter now, after 12 weeks.

toewoe · 08/08/2024 15:41

Thanks everyone for your support!!!

Tomorrow is officially day one as my pen arrived this afternoon! I've been to town and weighed myself at Boots and will do weekly - 22st 9lbs currently, so not quite the 23st I was thinking which has already given me a little boost ...hopefully I'll be closer to 21st soon instead!

Any tips of where best to inject for best results? Is night or day better? Are you all doing a calorie deficit alongside? Or just eating healthier?

Good luck to us all Smile

@toewoe
I'm with Voy and have been since Feb. Started at 22st and just hit 19st.
Find somewhere to share your Voy code to keep costs down. I've not had to pay full price since starting. Theres a few facebook pages with a monthly thread for codes to be shared. Ive had a few free pens as had my code used a lot. (The are cumulative and I have been with them since they first started)

ChristmasLightsLover · 08/08/2024 16:36

I started at 17 stone, have lost 3 with Mounjarno - so far. Come and find us on the threads. We are all welcoming and in it together. Lots of laughter, support and empathy. I wish I'd known of Mounjarno last year. Am so grateful to have this opportunity.

SilenceInside · 08/08/2024 16:38

@toewoe I've been injecting into my stomach area, as it's the easiest to reach and see what I'm doing. There is also no chance of accidentally injecting into muscle, I have a decent layer of flab there!

I inject on a Friday morning, once the children are at school. I WFH, so I can do it before I start my work day, and if I have any side effects a Friday is the easiest day at work to deal with them, or worst case take the day off sick. Then I can have the appetite suppression at full force over the weekend, which helps me with any eating out that might happen then. Lots of people seem to inject in the evening before bed, which works for them.

I have not had any side effects so far, thankfully, and have generally felt more energised and slept better. I am not calorie counting as I want to be able to eat less but without having to constantly monitor it. So, the Mounjaro helps with appetite suppression and feeling fuller quicker, plus not being driven by food cravings. I am finding it easier to choose healthy options and have small portions, and stop when I am full, which happens quickly.

olympicsrock · 08/08/2024 16:56

I’m doing MJ - a good choice.
I would suggest choosing the day after anything really important to inject. I do it on Tuesdays as I am most likely to socialise at the weekend and then I have a big work day on Mondays so I want to be feeling really ‘well’.
Tummy is a good place to inject.

CatTraveler · 09/08/2024 08:35

Another one jumping in to say its great- I am 4 weeks in (just did my first 5mg injection half an hour ago). I have lost just over 12lb in those 4 weeks (actually thinking it might be a bit more than that as I am constipated as a side effect of painkillers I am on)

Its been a game changer for me, like you I lost weight in lockdown but the second "real life" started again it piled back on. I am really working on eating normally, just less, at the moment.

I did eat much more than most people seemed to on the 2.5mg, used nutracheck and was about 1600kcal a day but didnt sweat if some days went over and some days under. I am working on the theory that even if I have a slower loss than others its still on a downward path!

I am injecting into my thigh - not tried anywhere else - my guide for when you inject is to do it when you have plenty of time and read the instructions. I have my laptop in front of me with this webpage open and follow the steps each time. https://res.cloudinary.com/zava-www-uk/image/upload/v1708600516/uk/modules/image-cards-modules/mounjaro-resources/idppzptomphafkrieaqw.pdf
