Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! Make sure the needle is twisted on tightly. Priming will help confirm if the needle is on securely and not faulty.

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.

8 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.

9 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

10 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

11 - Taking Mounjaro can stop birth control from being effective. If you are on birth control, consider extra protection if you aren't planning on conceiving anytime soon!

12 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

13 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

14 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

15 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

16 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Try and drink at least 2ltrs a day.

17 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

18 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

19 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

20 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress:

21- You will still be prescribed Mounjaro when your BMI falls below 30. However, it may be harder to move suppliers once your BMI is below 30 if you wanted to move.

22 - Worried about your supply being cut off when you get to a healthy BMI? Below is some info on some places maintenance plans.

The Family chemist :Would consult you as approached healthy BMI to discuss maintenance under close supervision(if you started with family chemist)
Curate: up to 2 years
Cloud: up to 2 years
Boots: Cut off at BMI 23
Asda: Cut off at a healthy BMI
Pharmacy2u: Will supply for maintenance
Bolt:Individual assessment once BMI 22 and does offer maintenance
Zava:Once healthy BMI will stop prescribing this treatment
Med Express: Now saying they support maintenance upto 2 years.

23 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Hi @Moanranger - well done on your progress so far!!

Just a suggestion re your jeans and other favourite clothes - try searching for them in your new size on Vinted (I have recently done just this, albeit in larger sizes - I will definitely be doing it for smaller sizes as my weight goes down!)

I do this too! Have replaced a couple of things like for like in smaller sizes.

And selling the originals so I can never grow into them again.

MoreThanJustANumber · 30/07/2024 14:22

@ThirdStorm and @MJqueen Thank you both, that's the reassurance I needed. I'm drinking loads of water and just think being post menopausal and insulin resistant are impeding my weight loss but I know the scales will change at some point!

ThirdStorm · 30/07/2024 14:24

@MoreThanJustANumber There has been quite a bit of talk about stalls on here and they do come and go. So frustrating though. Generally I up my water in take, take electrolytes and check over my nutrition. Although after a period of steady loss I think a stall can happen naturally and you aren't really doing anything wrong. I hope it starts to move again!

Ifyounevergiveup · 30/07/2024 15:25

@buffypaws of course only you can decide. It is however true to say that this, too, will pass…if you can hold on to your inspirational work so far I can’t help but think it will support you…so much of our eating is emotion rather than food…whatever you decide we’re all with you

ObsidianTree · 30/07/2024 15:45

Just seen on one of the facebooks of someone receiving the packaging but the pen has probably been nicked from inside! Didn't realize this was happening!

I think I read someone else on here had a delivery with no pen. Maybe that was nicked!

Hope this isn't going to be another thing to worry about.

Oh also, reading on the Reddit zepbound page yesterday about more people coming from the US to get MJ. Someone got an 8 month supply on a recent trip! Hope it's not going to be a big thing as a lot of Americans won't be able to afford to travel to get it. But for the Americans spending over $500 a month for their supply, they might start doing the maths and trying to get it cheaper over here in balk!

There is nothing good in that post at all!

Scary if the deliveries are being stolen.

I can't see many Americans travelling just for a pen but some might try to pick some up while they are here for business or leisure. I would have thought you'd need a UK address to register, even with a private GP?

NippyCrab · 30/07/2024 16:35

I've just received my first delivery from Voy, well packaged and cold. I'm going to start in the morning. In regards to protein shakes, where do you get good ready made ones? I have used My Protein before for powders a while ago. I'm not adverse to whizzing up a shake, but I would like some ready made too.
X

babycalf · 30/07/2024 16:45

Hello! May I please join? 2.5 pen arrived today.

Thanks to peri meno and lots of family and health issues in the last few years I've found myself gaining a stone a year. I'm hoping this helps. I'm armed with rennies, rehydration tablets, and peppermint tea.

Fingers crossed for some change!

30not13 · 30/07/2024 16:51

Have you just a stone to lose?

I like UFit (plenty of flavours and protein “sizes”) but in terms of taste my favourite is For Goodness Shakes (chocolate or salted caramel).

Snoopsteandcooper · 30/07/2024 16:53

Hello, newbie here. I have 3 stone to lose. I haven't ordered yet, would anyone be able to share a code please?

SilverHeels · 30/07/2024 16:54

@Snoopsteandcooper I can message you one

SilverHeels · 30/07/2024 17:00

@Snoopsteandcooper have pm’d you as were are not supposed to share codes on the main threads. Good luck with your journey !

The person was in London on business. Apparently you don't need a UK address. Just Dr letter or something like that. They got the meds delivered to their hotel.

Other Americans on the thread were saying they would be going to UK on business so would try and do the same.

We can only hope that if it becomes a problem and more and more Americans come over to buy the stock, then the UK pescribers will stop selling to Americans. I assume that the pescribers have a lot of stock and don't mind selling them at the moment....

Maybe it's the short dates our pens are getting. Pescribers trying to get rid of stock any means they can or else they might need to chuck them away.

I really like the Lidl ready made shakes and they are only 99p

About 220 cal and a massive 35g protein.

imnottoofussed · 30/07/2024 17:19

So far these are the tastiest protein shakes I've tried but quite expensive and only at Sainsbury's or direct I think

Sabblue · 30/07/2024 17:27

Can someone please advise as I'm panicking now. I have called voy and asked if I can move to them if I'm already on a higher dose they said yes and that I need to provide photos of my current pen. I have placed the order and sent straight away photos of my current 10mg pen and a photo of myself. some hours later I received a message that my order was approved for 2.5mg pen? They are now closed and I can't call them. Send them multiple messages but I'm scared they will say its too late? I was so clear in my request I dont know what to do now

SilverHeels · 30/07/2024 17:29

@Sabblue call them when they open tomorrow. They don’t usually dispatch out of hours so that’s all you can do. If you have messages for evidence I am sure they will sort it.

NippyCrab · 30/07/2024 17:39

Thank you for all the shake recommendations, I didn't know lidl did ones at 35g that's brilliant. I love those udder shakes, not the protein ones just the normal milkshakes. I forgot about the Ufit ones I've had them before, I will have a look at the for goodness shakes too. Xxx

OnInstagramAsFitFabForties · 30/07/2024 17:40

I did it! I did my first injection! Thank you all so much for the support. My anxiety can get the better of my sometimes.

I think the shaken udder drinks and some other protein shakes are included in the co-op meal deals

ThirdStorm · 30/07/2024 17:46

If we’re talking protein shakes I rate the grenade ones (chocolate and salted caramel are my fav) with 25g protein via Amazon. I keto so these are the lowest carb/sugar content ones I could find and fit fine into my diet plan.

Ghilliedu · 30/07/2024 17:59

Two exciting things today. Firstly, I have just injected my first 5mg. I think I’ve been titrating up from 2.5 to 5 for at least 10 of these threads 😂 From the middle of May when 3.75 made me think I was on my way out, I have finally made it! Fingers crossed I am ok on it and I can start using the doses are they are meant to be used - finally!

it’s taken me so long, I have another 5 and a 7.5 in the fridge. Also planning to order another 7.5 from oushk tomorrow as they have a 15% off code running so I’ll be fully stocked for a while!

second exciting thing - I finally hit 2 stone loss today. Weight loss has been slow while titrating up. 1lb a week generally. But all in the right direction and I’m happy to be back in the 13s!

SW (13th April) 223.8lbs
CW - 195lbs

DDisnotnormal · 30/07/2024 18:16

Does anyone know which provider is currently cheapest for a 12.5mg pen please? Apologies if this has already been discussed...I've not had chance to read the threads over the last few days so I've lots to catch up on! I'm currently with medexpress and hoping to do the price match. I just looked at cloud and ousk and they look like a similar price as medexpress. Thanks 😊 x

CiderJabs · 30/07/2024 18:25

@OnInstagramAsFitFabForties well done!

Did you manage to find the collagen and magnesium by the name? I couldn't post pictures on the dm but I can send them here for you
