Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! Make sure the needle is twisted on tightly. Priming will help confirm if the needle is on securely and not faulty.

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.

8 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.

9 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

10 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

11 - Taking Mounjaro can stop birth control from being effective. If you are on birth control, consider extra protection if you aren't planning on conceiving anytime soon!

12 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

13 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

14 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.

Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

15 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

16 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Try and drink at least 2ltrs a day.

17 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

18 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

19 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

20 - Some of the places you can order from are:

21- You will still be prescribed Mounjaro when your BMI falls below 30. However, it may be harder to move suppliers once your BMI is below 30 if you wanted to move.

22 - Worried about your supply being cut off when you get to a healthy BMI? Below is some info on some places maintenance plans.

The Family chemist :Would consult you as approached healthy BMI to discuss maintenance under close supervision(if you started with family chemist)
Curate: up to 2 years

Boots: Cut off at BMI 23
Asda: Cut off at a healthy BMI
Pharmacy2u: Will supply for maintenance

Well done @MelissaLouRocks. Great woosh!

Thanks, it's certainly cheered me up after the hospital news!

Annoyingly friend ordered from Zava after me and has received their injection, I'm still awaiting for my ME injection.

However I've just watched that video in the first post and am now really scared of the needle and injecting myself, help :(

It's totally normal to worry but I promise you won't feel a thing - in fact you will wonder if the needle even went in!

FlappyFish · 29/07/2024 11:16

Hi all. I sympathise with those in stalls so I’m now going to post my total weight loss again. Just to show you stall for a couple of weeks and whoosh. Also, please don’t get disheartened if your weight loss slows this week. It’s hot down south. You will drink more and you will retain.

Please remember with this graph I stopped tracking small gains and it does only go to losses. I’ve posted before, but so many new people here now.

Flappy, who’s now to maintenance and tapering off. Start weight was 14.3. 14.1 when I started taking MJ. Current weight 10st 2lbs. I’m 5’7 and 42. It starts end of January to this week.

@FlappyFish I remember you posted all your weekly losses on one of the threads, do you remember when you posted that or which thread? Im ready to have a proper look now that I'm stalling! Thanks!

Hi, I have a question if that's okay? I'm hoping to start MJ soon but am stalling on ordering because if it all goes well, I'll still be on it in a couple of months, when I'll be going to Europe for 3 months with work. Would I be able to access a 3 month supply, and if so, would I be able to take it on the plane? I'm a bit worried about starting and then having to stop for three months while I'm overseas. If anyone could advise, I'd be really grateful!

greencrab · 29/07/2024 11:37

I'm in a stall at moment and struggling sightly with remaining calm. It's 3rd week of static for me. Not sure if it's all MJ though as have decreased my exercise with school holidays and inability to get to gym. Bought some rollerskates and an joining in with kids learning to try and stay active.

CiderJabs · 29/07/2024 11:45

Morning all

Official weigh in day and I'm 9.13. So am maintaining which is good news. Still mildly annoyed I can't go down any further but counting my blessings nonetheless. Took 2.5 this morning so another reduction. Let's see what that brings.
I'm going on holiday in two weeks time (2 weeks all inclusive) and I think I'll take a dose before I go but not take the pen with me. This means I'll have a fresh 7.5 pen waiting for me when I'm back to help me rectify any damage!!!

Abigailandthefoxes · 29/07/2024 11:45

Just checking in am struggling with stomach issues at the moment that I’m now certain are unrelated to the jab.

in a NSV a pencil skirt I’ve never been able to get in fits and I can get back into two of my circle dresses.

Fromthesidelines · 29/07/2024 11:47

That's amazing @MelissaLouRocks! Glad you have some good news and are now out of hospital.

Thanks @FlappyFish I know objectively it's not linear and I'm sure the hot weather has a lot to do with it. I think what's helpful being on mj is that I don't have the normal 'fuck it' moment and give up because the med is still inside me and there's an expensive pen in my fridge!

@OnInstagramAsFitFabForties I made such a thing in my head about the first injection, watched several videos, read the leaflet about 5 times, set out a table of supplies like I was in an operating theatre. Then was slight deflated by how easy it actually was and that I didn't feel a thing. On Sunday evening I did my injection in an ad break!

CautiousLurker · 29/07/2024 11:57

ObsidianTree · 29/07/2024 11:06

Are you taking any fibre tablets? I swear by them now. Not been constipated since I started taking 2 a day. I use the psylum husks sogar brand

Me too - I use fybogel chews as I had a really bad bout of constipation a few months ago. It sorted itself, but over a week of feeling as though my stomach/middle had set like concrete, the nausea etc and low back pain was the pits.

since my holiday I am trying really hard to drink loads of water too as i just hate the stuff and will normally just live on coffee and prosecco 😍 - not idea for calories nor the fact I can only really drink the odd glass of wine these days! I fill a 2L bottle with electrolytes filled every morning, but it can take me 2 days to drink it, so really having to force myself…

ThirdStorm · 29/07/2024 12:14

@ObsidianTree @JamieFrasersSassenach Yep those ones, just finished my first jar so ordered more. I will be taking these for the long term.

FlappyFish · 29/07/2024 12:14

@ObsidianTree I used to post fairly regularly on Thursdays for the first 4 months.

I can probably pull the data from MFP to excel and post to FB if it helps?

Beeble21 · 29/07/2024 12:14

New numbers on the scales for me this morning 😀

OnInstagramAsFitFabForties · 29/07/2024 12:20

Thank you all for the reassurance:)

Am going to make a trip to Holland & Barrett this week as they have a biometrics machine in store that I think takes a few other measurements alongside weight. My scales at home are being annoying ans measuring me from anywhere between 36kg to 86kg haha!

Also on my list for H&B are:
Magnesium
Collagen
Psyllium husk

I already have multi-vitamins, is there anything else I'm missing?

I've also bought a nice new note book to jot down calories in, calories out, measurements, losses etc. Will use the apps too but writing things down always helps me :)

2021mumma · 29/07/2024 12:50

Week 4 of starting Mounjaro 2.5 and lost 5lbs, the food noise has completely gone and zero side effects so a little bit disappointed with the loss. Very pleased to have found this thread and read about the 2.5 being therapeutic and not to expect much so won’t get disheartened yet

Sabblue · 29/07/2024 12:57

anyone ordered recently 10mg or 12mg pen and can let know where is the cheapest option now? I will start my search but thought maybe someone knows :) Thanks in advance
ps my last order was with zava but was not happy with the delivery so not sure if I will order from them

CiderJabs · 29/07/2024 13:18

@OnInstagramAsFitFabForties I have tried two types of collagen from H&B and they both had a weird smell ( for me!) - I have now swapped for the my protein unflavoured one and I find it a lot better. I have a £10 off code I can send you if you want to give it a try.

I also find magnesium cheaper on Amazon so I have it on subscribe and save!

I'm with MedExpress and its 10g pen is £189 and 12g £209. They were among the best value ones I found that were registered with the UK body GPhC. It doesn't do really flashy discounts but I have code for £40 off if that helps. If you'd like it, do DM me...

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 29/07/2024 13:31

My 2yr old was taken into hospital a few days ago and that's the sort of thing that would send me into a chocolate munching spiral. I got a big bag of chocolate buttons but I didn't really want them - I ate a couple of handfuls for old time's sake but haven't touched them since. Seems so strange to say I'm really not bothered about chocolate.

My fancy scales are telling me that I've lost enough visceral fat to be in the acceptable range. I'm really pleased with that as I was worried about having so much fat around my organs. I'd already lost 2st by the time I bought my new scales so I started with a figure of 16 and now it says 10 which is in the green zone.
I still have an excessive amount of subcutaneous fat though.

PomchiK · 29/07/2024 13:31

Just want to say a massive "thank you" to all who offered advice during my dispute with Bolt/Royal Mail. I emailed an official complaint to Bolt on Friday and as suggested, I mentioned the Consumer Rights Act and raised concerns about prescribed meds not being sent more securely. I advised that if a refund was not processed, I would pass the complaint to Trading Standards. I have just received an email from Bolt to confirm a refund of the missing 10mg pen 🥳 They said they won't deliver to my flat again, but after the past 3 weeks of arguing I'm not sure I will order from them again anyway.

Off to look into your suggestions of new suppliers.

KrankyKumquat · 29/07/2024 13:31

Just a quick update for all the wonderful women who picked me up yesterday after Saturday's tapas carnage.

1.2lbs off this morning so I'm back on it!

I'm back off the alcohol 100% and will try harder to resist peer pressure - I love being a non-drinker and am as proud of achieving this as of losing weight.

I WILL GET TO THE 12's...SOON.
