Mounjaro lower starting weight 13st 3lb

Hi,

I'm looking for anyone who has started mounjaro at a borderline BMI for treatment.
I only just tip into the obese category at 13st 3lb, but the threads I've seen so far seem to be success stories of people starting with BMI 40+

Would it be worth it at my weight? Would I still see losses that would be more than dieting alone does anyone know?

With Zava, each pen comes with 6 needles for 4 doses plus the bonus dose.

You can reorder when your BMI is below 30, but you can’t start treatment at a BMI of below 30. They have to have a cut off somewhere, I guess. Like any medication, there can be side effects and risks, so the benefit of taking it has to outweigh the risks. At a BMI of 27.5, it probably doesn’t stack up.

Does anyone know what the risks are of using under 30 BMI? I can't ascertain them anywhere and this thread makes me really want to try it. I do have three stone to lose which sounds like the same as many on here. I'm just taller, hence BMI 27-28.

There aren’t any specific risks associated with taking it at a BMI lower than 30, as far as I am aware. However there are risks associated with taking it at any BMI, and as the risks associated with being overweight are lower at a BMI of 27 than a BMI of 31, for example, it means the risk vs benefit balance is skewed. As I said, there has to be a cut off somewhere.
Reputable prescribers won’t prescribe at a BMI of less than 30, unless of course you lie to them.

You can take it at BMI 27 if you have some other health issues. Issues are prediabetes, high cholesterol, heart problems.

If you don't have any of these you won't be able to get them as the pescribers are strict with what evidence they need from you. I.e. photo id, full body pics including face. Side view pics. Pics of you standing on scales with the date written on a piece of paper next to the scales... So not something that can be bypassed.

Thank you both, that makes sense. And fair enough I guess.

I'm happy to share although am looking for high cal low protein meal ideas myself.

I normally start the day with a banana and a protein shake (I work out in the mornings), sometimes a piece of sourdough with peanut/almond butter and if I've more time on a weekend dippy egg and soldiers (sometimes I'll have that as a lunch too). I also really like the nomadic oat clusters yoghurts if I'm in a rush.

For lunch I'll try and stick mostly to protein, so some sort of fish/lean meat with salad. I've also tried a couple of the Bol protein soups now which are pretty good. Some days I haven't had an appetite though and have skipped lunch which I know is bad so I really try not to.

Dinner is a smaller portion of whatever we're having as a family and then if I fancy something sweet my go to at the moment is either a co-lab choc pot or meringue best topped with strawberries. When the sun was out I was sometimes having one of those frozen yoghurt lollies.

I haven't given up alcohol, although taking it slower and reducing the amount. I'm having a small glass of red as I type, mostly I've been ok on alcohol but I did have a really bad hangover (worse than pre MJ) Sunday after going a bit OTT on Saturday with g&t so that's made me think I need to be a bit more cautious.

Good luck on your journey 🙂

yajustneverknow · 03/07/2024 17:43

Thanks for sharing @mcdle, I'm wondering if slimming world would work alongside MJ.
I'm glad you've been on alcohol, I don't plan to give it up completely, just yet anyway.

I’ve been looking into this. Just curious if losing more than 10lbs a month is sustainable? Those who have lost 1 stone or more quite drastically, did it lead to a lot of loose skin? That’s the part that I’m worried about. Also, what are the side effects? And is it possible to gain more than you lose once you do start eating? Those are things I worry about a lot as well.

Not sure about maintenance as nowhere near yet but I've lost 10lbs since my first jab 3 weeks and 1 day ago and no saggy skin yet, although o have been working out and was for a few months before I started MJ so that will be helping. Starting weight, age, exercise and where you are holding your weight will be the defining factor soon excess/saggy skin I'm guessing. Side effects for me have been minimal but I do worry about long term risks, although I've taken the chance and feel happier that for now I'm in control of my eating and stopped the upward trend on the scales. I was in the obese category (which is required for MJ prescription) so that also comes with long term health risks so I guess it's weighing up the risks.

My diet varies but it's along the lines of

Breakfast: Pint of water with electrolytes, vitamins. Instant coffee which I pour most of down the sink. Then either greek yog with protein granola and some blueberries OR a chocolate huel shake

Snack: Flat White

Lunch: Always a struggle to eat - protein shake (made with frozen banana and fruit for fibre) if I haven't had one for breakfast or a small salad with some sort of protein.

Dinner: Protein like marinated chicken, salmon, fish. Usually with half of one of those merchant gourmet pouches of lentils/dhal/rice/grains.

Hi - anyone have a valid code for Zava? I've tried the most recent one on here but it says it's expired.

Thanks

yajustneverknow · 13/07/2024 07:19

@Johaanah you can have mine REFCHKS. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I took my second jab last night.

Thanks, I'm going to order and will use your code 👍🏻- but it says that it will arrive within two working days but the estimated delivery date is between 18-23 July, how long did yours take to arrive? Only concerned as if it arrives before Friday there will be nobody home to sign for it!

If I wait and order on Monday hopefully it'll arrive once there is someone home to sign - did you have to put it straight in the fridge?

I will probably have many questions- lol, how are you finding it so far? I've had gestational diabetes so I've used a pen before for insulin, my eating is a bit of a rollercoaster and I'm an all or nothing person, I can be amazing or I can be out of control!

yajustneverknow · 13/07/2024 17:29

@Johaanah..ask away SmileI ordered on the Wednesday and I'm pretty sure it came the day after. It came when I was at work and Royal Mail left it in my shed, they come packed with ice packs and I just put it straight in the fridge when I got home, a good 6 hours after delivery, and so far it's been fine.

I did my second jab last night, initially got a headache which is what happened last week so definitely linked, but this weeks headaches weren't as bad. Otherwise the week has been ok, but today I feel a bit fatigued so I've bought myself a multivitamin to see if that helps.

The suppression is almost instant but I did feel the hunger come back about Wednesday so it was just a case of staying motivated, the cost is a big motivator. I've still been able to drink a bit of alcohol but felt the hangover more, even off a little bit.

yajustneverknow · 13/07/2024 17:31

@Johaanah oh and I've lost 3lb in my first week but my bmi was only 30.5 to start with so I expect slower losses.

Thanks for all the info, I think I'll order Wednesday evening and hope it doesn't arrive until Friday at the earliest.

My BMI is also around 30, but I have pre diabetes and also because I am very short I'm quite fat 😞 to lose 3lb in a week would a miracle for me as even on 1200 calories a day I would only manage to lose half a pound each week, I just feel like I really need a little extra help to shift the weight. This time last year I was about two stone lighter than I am now and I still felt fat!

yajustneverknow · 13/07/2024 21:08

@Johaanah someone made a comment on another thread about MJ being the easiest way to lose weight, I hope it's true! I've yo-yo dieting for as long as I can remember. I did really well a couple of years back on juice plus but it just wasn't sustainable so I ended up putting it all back on.

I've not told anyone I'm doing this, I don't think I ever will so I've been hiding it in the fridge. To do this I bought a roll of ready made pastry and rolled it up in that, there's no way dh will even pick it up out the fridge!

Pinkbendyman · 13/07/2024 22:38

I started MJ with a BMI of 32.6 on 16th May.

I have lost 2 stone in just over 8 weeks.

My BMI is already down to 28.5

This is really similar to my situation, I'm not massively overweight but I really struggle to maintain such a low calorie diet long term, and my losses are always very small, even with cardio and strength workouts at least 4 times a week.

Also I'm not divulging this to anyone, I don't need the negativity, I'm going to order the starter pack which is two pens, one of 2.5 and one 5 mg, I don't care how much it costs, I've spent a fortune over the years on slimming world and gym memberships diet foods and all sorts of other weight loss stuff, even if I can just get back to where I was this time last year I'd be happy! I look at myself in the mirror and I'm so disgusted that I've let this happen.

It would be good to have someone to go through this with - kind of like moral
Support, I'm actually looking forward to getting started!

Thanks for all the help and advice 👍🏻😊

yajustneverknow · 14/07/2024 12:47

@Johaanah absolutely, support is really important. I've found the mounjaro continued threads really helpful, think it's up to 16 now. But feel free to dm me too.
I feel quite wiped out today, and a bit..squiffy, if that makes sense. Apart from the headaches I've not really felt much side effects but I've only had 2 x 2.5mg so far.
