Mounjaro lower starting weight 13st 3lb

Hi,

I'm looking for anyone who has started mounjaro at a borderline BMI for treatment.
I only just tip into the obese category at 13st 3lb, but the threads I've seen so far seem to be success stories of people starting with BMI 40+

Would it be worth it at my weight? Would I still see losses that would be more than dieting alone does anyone know?

@montysma1 that's incredible. Gives me a lot of hope. Which dose are you on?

Pigriver · 21/06/2024 17:03

I started with a BMI of 30 when it just came out in march. I lost 2 stone in 10 weeks and have now lost another half a stone. I have already started to decrease my dose as I'm close to my target. I foolishly forgot to order one last pen so the last half a stone will have to be done 'old school' as my BMI is now too low to start.
To be honest I'd be happy to stay where I am now but tone up further. I have enough left for another 3 weeks at a lower dose as I start to work out what to eat on a normal day as the appetite suppression wears off.
It is literally the best decision I've made in years.

One more 10mg dose to go, then I have a 12.5mg.

I have got on really well with the higher doses and am one of the lucky ones that has never had any side effects.

I have lost just over 2 stone in 3 months.

My starting weight was 13 stone 6lbs.

My current dose is 7.5mg. I started at 2.5mg, then went to 5mg for 2 pens.

Prior to this I’ve spent years trying every diet, healthy eating and exercise plan known to man and would only lose 3 lbs or so.

It's a weight loss injection. You need to have a BMI greater than 30 to start.

Have a look at the long standing Mounjaro threads to have a read of the information.

If you use one of the Zava codes that others have given, you can get 15% off your first order, so you can get the starting dose which is 2.5mg for £123 for the month. The next pen dose 5mg would work out as about £149, the pen after 7.5mg £169. Then the 10mg pen £189.

Just click on the link to go to Zava medical to sign up. I would say for a newbie Zava is a good option.

One of the questions on voy suggest only taking non oral contraception, is this absolutely necessary and if so why?

Callmejudith · 24/06/2024 21:03

@yajustneverknow I’ve read it can interfere with contraception absorbing into the bloodstream but pretty low risk. I’m on progesterone only pill and not planning to change it

yajustneverknow · 24/06/2024 21:24

I've just been prescribed the mini pill and I didn't really want to tell my husband I'm to start mounjaro..not yet anyway, so wondered why they advise non oral contraception. Have you not noticed any effect to your contraception?

WhatNext24 · 24/06/2024 21:47

I want to try this but my BMI is 27.5. I definitely have a good three stone to lose though. Why can't someone with an overweight (but not obese) order this - or can they? Surely everyone using it keeps using it once they drop under BMI 30+?

You can reorder when your BMI is below 30, but you can’t start treatment at a BMI of below 30. They have to have a cut off somewhere, I guess. Like any medication, there can be side effects and risks, so the benefit of taking it has to outweigh the risks. At a BMI of 27.5, it probably doesn’t stack up.

Mounjaro can cause your birth control to stop working. I have heard of a few people now that have got pregnant due to contraception failure from mounjaro. If you don't mind getting pregnant then that's fine, but if it's something you don't want to happen, then you need a secondary contraception.

It's something to do with your digestive system slowing down and I guess the birth control pills not getting digested quickly enough to do their job.

Youdontevengohere · 24/06/2024 22:38

I don’t think I’d risk it on the birth control. The first sign you get that it’s affected will be that you’re pregnant!

I was 13st & 5ft4 when I started 7 weeks ago. I've lost 24lbs . Would like to lose another 7 -10lbs . It's definitely a game changer and I love it

mcdle · 26/06/2024 07:12

Week 1, 5lb loss. Was hoping for a bit more as was 5lbs down Saturday but then my period came 👎, but I'll take that! (SW 12.3).

That’s amazing! You must feel fabulous

diian · 26/06/2024 07:30

Wow! That is great,@montysma1 . I am 5lb down in my first week. Weight now starts with a 12 rather than 13!

Johaanah · 26/06/2024 08:10

Hi,

Can I ask when you start increasing the pen? I have 2.5 pen in my basket, do you keep increasing every month or just stick with a certain dose?

Thanks

diian · 26/06/2024 16:57

I am going on to the 5mg pen at the end of my 1st month, but only going to inject 3.75mg each week, so it should last 6-7 weeks with the extra dose.

I was thinking of doing this. Are you buying extra tips or insulin needles to extract? I'm not sure which method will be better
