Mounjaro side effects

Hi

i I am on week 4, 5mg Mounjaro. Have lost well/consistent, was ready to increase the dose up from 2.5mg and have felt generally ok on the injections. However for the past 3 weeks two days after injection I have had diarrhoea, nothing too explosive but has had me up in the night. Also have sulphur burps the first day and I have no idea how to manage this symptom. One or two days of symptoms then ok afterwards. Anyone else had side effects? Has it stopped you taking the medication? Or made you drop back down to a lower dose? I am wondering if i stick with 5mg for the next pen.

I've just started and I've woken up with sulphur burps. I'm only on 2.5mg. I also have had a bubbly feeling in my stomach as if diarrhea is on the way. I started two days ago.

giggly · 21/06/2024 02:52

I was previously on Saxanda and stopped because of the side effects. I was hoping it would be better on Mounjaro but sadly not.
For sulphur burps I take peppermint capsules or polo mints. However every night I have really bad stomach cramps and excessive wind😬, to the point that I can’t sleep.
ive been swallowing gaviscon which helps a little but find that I don’t know what irritates me until after I’ve eaten it.
I have found that protein drinks help to sooth my stomach.
Im going to continue to grin and bare it as I’ve lost 11lb in 4 weeks.

Eminybob · 21/06/2024 03:15

I had bad side effects the first 2 weeks of 5mg. Just for 1 day each week, a couple of days after the injection. I had been eating the same foods as before MJ but smaller portions, and then since have focused on more lean protein and salad and it has settled down (may have done so anyway and this is coincidence?)
For sulphur burps, I have heard others swear by Rennies.

Don't give up, maybe just adjust your diet if you haven't already. I've just started 7.5mg and have been OK so far.

deleteitforpro · 21/06/2024 05:26

It is the tiredness for me. I am at the end of week 3 and completely wiped out

giggly · 28/06/2024 04:11

Another night of agony from wind, nausea and sulphur burps on my second week on 5mg.
only managed about 1000 calories yesterday and currently up having a cup of tea to try and calm my stomach down. Have had gaviscon with no effect at all.
This feels unbearable and just as well I’m off work today as wouldn’t be able to hold my head up all day.
this was the reason I gave up on Saxanda before.
I mean I know no pain no gain but this is just awful

Mamai100 · 28/06/2024 07:06

Could you go back down to 2.5mg @giggly?

I have a 4 month old and a toddler so I can't afford to get any side effects if I move up a dose. I'm already doing stinking burps and farting for ireland!

I've had a couple of days low energy too which is hideous for me with two little ones. I suffered with low energy in pregnancy and felt like I was dragging myself around for nine months, I was enjoying feeling like a human being again.

So far though the positive outweighs the negative for me and I'll probably stay on 2.5mg until I feel like that dose isn't working for me anymore.

giggly · 28/06/2024 17:24

Less on the fart front today but feeling completely worn out.
I’m reluctant to go back down as the suppression wore off very quickly. In fairness I’ve dropped 2kg since yesterday.
I think I need to grin and bare it while swigging down the gaviscon for a day or two.

ReginaTucker · 28/06/2024 18:23

Mint tea helps with the sulphur burps!!!
I didn’t really like mint tea but it’s a heck of a lot nicer than the burping. Give it a try x

Sunsetattheoasis · 30/06/2024 09:48

I start shot 4 of 5mg on Monday but I'm going back to 2.5mg. I've had for 2/3 days now each week stomach cramps, wind pains (like you're going to explode), vomiting, and sulphur burps. 24lb down which is great but I was coping well on 2.5 and I can't live like the last 3 weeks have been.

Carelesswispalover · 30/06/2024 10:17

Agree with mint tea. Also you need to think about what you're eating that could be causing the burps and wind. They're from the food sitting in your stomach that mounjaro has slowed digestion down for. I try to avoid too much green veg like cabbage, broccoli etc the fart veg haha!
I take Aloe Vera capsules daily, and eat little and often and this helps.

Hi everyone, I am currently day 3 of mourjano and haven't really had any side effects until this morning and now have horrendous diarrhoea but not stomach cramps and feel fine - please tell me this passes!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 14/07/2024 09:14

@Cherry85 the thing is with this stuff is that everyone seems to react differently. Yes, for most people, it will pass but it might not for some. I’ve had a few days in weeks 3 & 4 of 2.5 with diarrhoea but it seems ok now🤞 What did you eat yesterday that might have brought it on? I think mine was from too much liquid in the mornings tbh🤷‍♀️

Fully agree. I was exactly the same. No way is 5mg sustainable for me. Thought I was dying!! I’m having a weeks break (am on holiday) and will go back to 2.5mg when I get back!!

Anyone else have trouble with being lightheaded? My head goes dizzy whenever I lie down and get up. I didn't notice how bad it was till I was in a gym class and had to get on the floor 😵‍💫

I've struggled to consume 1000 calories for the past 3 days so will try and eat more and see if that helps, but this is not fun as don't want to stop the gym or my PT. I haven't told anyone so can't be honest about why I feel so dizzy moving into different positions.

I can cope with the eggy burps and occasional nausea, but suffered with vertigo years ago so any time my head is woozy it fills me with anxiety 😥

Eminybob · 22/07/2024 09:12

For those who are/have been suffering on 5mg, I was the same, genuinely considered giving up completely. But I persevered and 7.5 and above have been absolutely fine, hardly any symptoms apart from bit of nausea.

ACEwards · 22/07/2024 09:37

Does anyone know if the side effects keep reappearing everytime you give yourself a dose, or once your body has got used to the drug at a certain dosage then it settles?

Not sure if I can take a reoccurrence of side effects each week... each day it's something new! Today is dizziness and diarrhoea 😥

Sunsetattheoasis · 22/07/2024 09:56

At 5mg I got side effects every week, now I'm on 7.5 I get nausea for the first couple of days and then that's it

Did you start straight on 5mg, or start at 2.5?

Sunsetattheoasis · 22/07/2024 12:40

I started on 2.5mg for 4 weeks and no side effects. 5mg was a killer I'm not going to lie! But it gets better once you get up to 7.5mg. I took my shot yesterday and I feel sick today and probably tomorrow, but I eat small little brunch bars when I feel sick and it goes away

ACEwards · 23/07/2024 10:42

I'm only on day 5 of my first dose. I've got to say I'm up and down when it comes to how I'm feeling. The first couple of days were OK, but as the days have gone on I've started to feel more unwell. I think the biggest issue I'm having is the anxiety, as its making everything seem so much worse! I'm not sleeping properly as I'm waking intermittently in the night anxious, and its making me feel so jittery and light headed.

I went into this expecting nausea and upset stomach, but 'touch wood' that's not been too bad.

I'm so up and down about whether to take my next dose. I've had to cancel all my gym bookings this week as I'm just too woozy - I'm so scared the side effects will never wear off and each dose will just add to them.

Anyone else feel like this or is it just me?

SilenceInside · 23/07/2024 11:47

Are you normally anxious, or this a new thing that's come on with taking the injections? Are you eating enough, and enough nutrient dense things?

I'm normally anxious, its just exacerbated as I think its a big deal and a massive lifestyle change!

I literally had no appetite for 3 days and had to force myself to eat 1000 cals, so past two days trying my best to get to 1200, but adding in protein shakes and snacking little and often on fruit, cheese and protein

SilenceInside · 23/07/2024 12:00

It is a lifestyle change that you want though, and eating less is not a huge lifestyle change in the grand scheme of things. What do you normally do to handle the anxiety - have you had help with it in the past?

I was on medication for a long time to help with anxiety and depression. I've been off for about 6+ months and doing well, I'm just prone to it so need to weigh up how long I can give it before deciding its not for me, which is a really sad thought as I kind of see this as my last attempt.
