Mounjaro side effects

Chonkylicious · 17/06/2024 09:08

Hi

i I am on week 4, 5mg Mounjaro. Have lost well/consistent, was ready to increase the dose up from 2.5mg and have felt generally ok on the injections. However for the past 3 weeks two days after injection I have had diarrhoea, nothing too explosive but has had me up in the night. Also have sulphur burps the first day and I have no idea how to manage this symptom. One or two days of symptoms then ok afterwards. Anyone else had side effects? Has it stopped you taking the medication? Or made you drop back down to a lower dose? I am wondering if i stick with 5mg for the next pen.

Hi I've just took my first dose and feeling quite shaky (3 hours later) - anyone else felt shaky and wierd?

I always get like this. It passes in a couple of days normally, but I was starting to think I was the only one this happened to

Thank you! I think I started panicking and it made it worse. Googled it amd it said to eat some fruit so had a banana and seemed to help. Its eased off now thankfully

ACEwards · 12/08/2024 13:05

@Lindsay255 I know my anxiety makes it worse. I get anxious about side effects, which make me feel horrid, which then makes me feel anxious lol. Literally a vicious cycle of anxiety, but now I'm on week 5 it's improving slightly. I guess I just need to weigh up what's worse... being anxious and giddy or being overweight 🤷‍♀️

Being overweight for sure. I've always managed to lose with diet and exercise but since hitting 40 it's been really hard to shift. Just hope it works!! Really got my head in the game and actually managed to lose half a stone before the med arrived just following a high protein diet. Have you upped your dose now your in week 5?

ACEwards · 12/08/2024 16:12

@Lindsay255 I'm waiting for my provider to contact me this week about what I want to do. I'm very nervous about going up due to side effects, and I have lost weight on the low dose so I might stay on 2.5 until it's completely stopped working for me.

Although my body seems to feel different hour to hour every day, so sometimes I think I'm good to move to 5 and others I'm like nooo way 😂

I turned 39 last week, so def know what you mean when you say it gets harder as you get older!

Well I'm feeling loads better than this morning so hopefully ot was more anxiety related rather than med reaction.

Let me now what they say and if you decide to move to 5

Side effects of dry eyes and dry mouth.
I’m also unusually smelly - everywhere - despite great hygiene.
Urine also smelling very strongly.
It’s actually solved a longstanding 4 year bowel issue for me - but gone the other way, bad constipation, and (TMI) whatever small amount that does pass is only slug sized.
(beetroot seems to be helping with it now)

Positives are that it’s given me a happier and calmer mental outlook - strangely.

Almost at week 3 on 2.5mg - following strict SW principles, all fruit, salads and veg…..and the scales have not moved - at all.

Tambo94 · 08/12/2024 02:57

Week 3 of 5mg and honestly I feel like I'm dying constantly sick after eating feel exhausted sulfur burps wind the list goes on does this pass

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 08/12/2024 12:37

@Tambo94 How were you during the first two weeks and on 2.5? I would say you need to look at your diet - sulphur burps happen due to undigested food so a period of fasting may possibly help to ‘clear you out’. There are also numerous things you can take to help with these side effects should you wish to.

Jabtastic · 08/12/2024 12:39

I stopped taking it because of side effects. I think a certain percentage of us just don't get on with this drug unfortunately.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 08/12/2024 12:43

I've found I will either get side effects or have a decent week - there's no in-between with it. I've had weeks where I've had all night the day after jabs with explosive runs every hour, and sulphur burps to the point I've nearly puked, and then weeks with no problem at all.

Things I've found helped are - going very light and bland the day pre-jab with lots of water then - so there's less chance of food sitting in your stomach when the new jab hits. Peppermint oil capsules for the burps and Rennies seem to knock them down for a while. I was dreading going up to 5mg because of the few bad weeks I've had, but I had a pretty decent week of moving up to be fair.

Tambo94 · 08/12/2024 12:57

I was OK on 2.5 but became hungry again
My diet is very clean when I can actually hold food in.

I feel like this with the side effects there extreme

TheSillyGoose · 10/12/2024 19:43

I know no-one has posted on thus thread in a whilst but if anyone has anymore tips and tricks I'd be so greatful to hear them

Jabtastic · 10/12/2024 20:57

I wish I could give you some tips but I honestly feel so much better off it than on it, it's like night and day. I couldn't understand why I feel so energetic in a crazy busy week and it just hit me when I saw your post that it's because I'm not dealing with all the side effects.

I'm not saying I won't ever try it again but at the minute I am much happier off it. I feel normal again (although my bowel is still a bit sluggish which is really irritating!)

ACEwards · 11/12/2024 07:03

It took me 18 weeks to not have side effects from 2.5. Tried 3.75 Friday and I can't wait till it's out my system... I've never felt so unwell. So nauseous I can't eat and so weak as I'm not eating. Apparently it has a half life of 5 days so it should be half out of my system by today. Praying I start to feel better. Definitely won't be taking anymore after this

Jabtastic · 11/12/2024 17:11

I wish they were more honest about how miserable the side effects can be. It's hard to tell what % of people experience enough side effects to stop us taking the medication altogether rather than just transient symptoms. MN is full of people cheering how brilliant it is (which is understandable if they're the lucky ones it works for) but I wonder how many of us tried and found it intolerable.

I honestly had no idea how badly it was affecting my life until I stopped. It crept up gradually getting worse even at the lowest dose.

Stormyinacoffeemug · 11/12/2024 21:25

Has anyone experienced random bruising all over their body?

I barely bruise at my injection site but notice new bruises everytime I shower, toilet or get changed. They look more 'violent' for want of a better description and take ages to go away too. Last night I had an itch on my inner thigh that wouldn't go away and today have a bruise approx 6cm big.

I’m about to go onto 12.5mg. I found that injecting in the arm reduced symptoms to the point I never had any. I’d previously injected in the stomach and I’d suffer so badly. Lucozade is fab for that spring in your step or light headedness. Eating little and healthy the day before and day of your next injection really, really helps to reduce symptoms. Suffer so bad with the burps but considering I’ve lost 3 stone I’m not complaining. Hope this helps 😄

Anyone else have trouble with being lightheaded? My head goes dizzy whenever I lie down and get up. I didn't notice how bad it was till I was in a gym class and had to get on the floor 😵‍💫

I've struggled to consume 1000 calories for the past 3 days so will try and eat more and see if that helps, but this is not fun as don't want to stop the gym or my PT. I haven't told anyone so can't be honest about why I feel so dizzy moving into different positions.

I can cope with the eggy burps and occasional nausea, but suffered with vertigo years ago so any time my head is woozy it fills me with anxiety 😥

I get the woozyness too

Rocco84 · 26/01/2025 06:00

I lost a lot of weight on it but have suffered really bad explosive diarrhea got all the way up to dose 15mg have tried lowering the dose but nothing helped
Had to stop taking as after taking it for 2 /3 days after I'd get no sleep can't leave the house because of the diarrhea lucky my rota allowed me to do this or there's noway I could take them.
Anyways stopped talking them as couldn't cope with waking evey night with diarrhea for months but put all my weight back on over the past month so have now started again and day 2 I'm up again all night with diarrhea.

spanieleyes · 26/01/2025 06:17

First dose of 5mg, after absolutely no side effects from 2.5mg, with explosive diarrhoea! Not pleasant😢. Imodium, here we come!

GingerGirl4549 · 26/01/2025 06:22

Not read all the comments so apologies if someone has said this. Wellgard have a product called My Journey. This is a personal recommendation, I'll get nothing for this. It works, no sulphur burbs, gut health returned to normal

BackToWegovy · 26/01/2025 07:25

@Rocco84 you can’t live like that. Presumably you have just started again on 2.5mg? I honestly think some of us develop an intolerance to Mounjaro that gets worse rather than better and kicks in at a lower dose than we have tolerated before. I am currently on Wegovy and the side effects (for me) are much less than I had on Mounjaro (once they started which wasn’t until dose 4 of 10mg). Just a bit of morning nausea the day after injection day and this is on 1 mg Wegovy.

Jenelliot · 27/01/2025 12:51

I have had a couple of episodes feeling anxious especially late at night, I am not a good sleeper to start with. I have had some discomfort in my back where my gall bladder used to be, but to be honest every time I’ve dieted ( always keto ) I have had this discomfort. A little nausea, and headache, but 3 stone down since September, and I love the feeling of not thinking about food and wine every waking hour!! Having been slim most of my life I found since gaining weight, almost 6 stone initially my whole life has been put on hold and the daily feeling of trying yet another diet, the anxiety of battling to stay focused has all disappeared, I feel amazing. Still have 3 stone to go, but hopefully this will be my first summer in 16 years as a slim person. For me the side affects are worth putting up with. I don’t punish myself worrying about holidays and breaking my diet, I am eating exactly how I ate as a slim person before the weight gain. I have lost 4 stone previously on 3 occasions, only to go on holiday and re-gain once back home, sickening really, I really hope this will educate me, I hope you all get the results you want, good luck.
