Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Going back to cut off points. I'm wondering if it's worth attempting to order from two different suppliers for a couple of months to stockpile? I wouldn't think they share data, the only issue I can think of is expiry dates and the cost of course 😕

I started with Asda, then moved to MedExpress and went back and ordered a pen from Asda as I wanted a spare to keep a buffer. They didn't notice! Unless your Dr gets a lot of letters and is on the ball and checks, I think you can order from more than one supplier without anyone noticing.

I have ended up moving to Zava due to costs. Had no problem moving. I can still order from MedExpress or Asda if I want to. Both telling me to order... But won't as I'm happy with my buffer at the moment!

Choux · 04/06/2024 17:51

How long are people finding it's taking this week to get a ZAVA order approved?

I ordered 10mg yesterday lunchtime and sent my photos (as switching from MedExpress) but it is still showing just as Pending. It says to contact them after 48 hours so will see if it gets approved tomorrow morning and contact them if not but wondered if everyone was waiting this long or if my order has been forgotten about.

I ordered 1st of June (Saturday) and it was delivered today.

I sent the pics required plus a pic of a current prescription invoice with dosage information which they accepted.

Order approved Sunday, dispatched Monday and arrived today. So quite impressed with how quick it came considering I signed up on weekend.

My BMI is just above 30 so didn't have a worry about BMI under 30

Thank you for sharing about your feelings @FlappyFish it really helps to understand how everyone is thinking about this there is such a big emotional aspect.

I have been struggling this week since going up to 5mg.... bizarrely more interested in food. Not sure if it's a desire to eat my stress/tiredness away rather than real hunger. Prior to my I did tend to eat for pretty much every reason, happy, sad, need a energy boost, need to chill out etc.

When I have eaten foods that weren't "clean" as previously (like the Wagamamas) I've had tummy aches and wind with sulphur burps afterwards so should be learning this really isn't the food for me. With home cooked food I've been comfortable and energetic.

I have kept up the exercise though so hopefully building muscle to help with maintenance. Starting feeling over full yesterday evening as I'd eaten takeaway (supposed healthy gym box option of kale, humous, chicken skewer, rice, halloumi) so took myself off on a paced walk using Google fit app with step up hill section and managed nearly 4k. That was after a pre work gym session.

Did you get away with the halloumi? I had a slice last week and shit my brains out an hour later! I can't have cheese at all at the minute!

I was with Asda then switched to Zava as its cheaper. But Zava supply Asda with the meds so I assumed they would have the same data? I'm thinking that the worst that can happen is the second supplier rejects the request. I might try next month, once I see how I get on with the increase to 5mg.

I've been wondering this too

The only issue I forsee is the contacting of gp

I've checked my NHS App and can't see anything to say my GP have been informed yet, it may not appear there at all. I would hope that they would inform the GP after they approved and posted or the GP would assume I've switched suppliers again. 😆

It appeared on mine! I ordered through Asda and then it appeared on my NHS app a couple of weeks later under medical conditions - Obesity, Severe!! My bmi is 31 for context! It’s fine that it’s there but I was a bit surprised, there’s no info of MJ in my medications though.

Wonkypictureframe · 04/06/2024 18:30

I’ve got letters from Asda and Med Express on my app. Nothing I can see yet from Pharmacy2U.

Hi, I post on the other weight loss thread for those that have 5st + to lose.

I used someone’s Zava code from this thread (thank you 😊). Here is my referral code for anyone else that would like it: REFHNHUR

Hey do you have a link to that thread. I can’t find it. Thanks

PomchiK · 04/06/2024 18:45

@Wonkypictureframe @DragonflyRuby whereabouts in the app does it show? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. If it takes a few weeks to show then I may get away with ordering from separate suppliers if I do attempt it before my BMI goes down too much. Especially if Zava will cut me off at 30

GP Health Record > Medical Conditions and also a letter from the pharmacy under documents on mine.

Madferitchick · 04/06/2024 18:56

@AgathaMystery a friend of mine has just been prescribed it by her GP. She's been on the tier 3 weight loss plan and has type 2 diabetes. She's been told she's on it for 72 weeks. However I also know someone who's been refused it at a different GP practice, so as you say, it's going to be very subjective!

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 04/06/2024 19:01

Those of you hoping to access MJ through the NHS - my GP was supportive to refer me to tier 3 weight management last year (hypertensive with BMI of 35) - but the service in my region doesn't have a prescribing doctor attached to it so they could only offer me basic dietary advice (stick to low fat yoghurt and diet drinks, cut out chocolate and biscuits - gee thanks for that, I'd never have known...) or bariatric surgery (which I wasn't prepared to consider). Really quite mad that I could go on a waiting list for high risk surgery but not be prescribed medication that was already being dispensed locally to diabetics with a better record for outcomes! Unfortunately there will be many areas where a referral to tier 3 won't help.
I'm resigned to pay for this privately, it means no family holiday for us this year.
Am due a whoosh, am up 0.3kg again - when will this stall finally shift?!

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 04/06/2024 19:07

I've just looked at my GP record and it says they received a letter about mine today. They have now cancelled all my repeat prescriptions! I need them! Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes. T2DM will help you get it - but it’s a condition you wouldn’t wish on anyone.

montysma1 · 04/06/2024 19:57

So through a series of mistakes and being an utter idiot, I managed to dose myself 15mg last Friday. I am currently at the end of 7.5mg😳

I was in some trepidation! Cacking it actually. But it was fine. So far anyway.
I have never had side effects and happily this continued, no ill effects.

But oh my goodness, the supression! I have moved up the doses and been a bit suppressed and have successfully lost loads of weight. But suppression has never been absolute and I have had to work at it.

This is absolute.
Oh my god. This is how I want live! This must be how skinny people feel!😲

AgathaMystery · 04/06/2024 20:04

@montysma1 im not laughing at you but I am a bit… I accidentally gave myself a bid dose from the bonus at the end of 2.5mg. I just went into autopilot like I was drawing up drugs at work and withdrew everything from from pen into two syringes and gave it to myself 🤯 what an absolute idiot I was!! Like you, the suppression was UNREAL.

This is exactly the response I got when I was referred to tier 3 services in April. My area doesn't do weightloss medication. They only offer diet and exercise advise or a pathway to bariatric surgery. I was on the bariatric pathway just over 2 years ago but I wasn't able to continue because of bereavement. I'm now a widowed parent so I absolutely don't want to go down the surgery route!!!

I've actually just read an interesting article in the independent that says there is going to be a review about providing MJ on the NHS in August. I will try to post it here...if I can figure out how to do!! 😅It doesn't really fill me with much hope as they are saying costs would need to come down but there may be a tiny (miniscule) glimmer of hope that it could become more widely avaliable through the NHS x

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 04/06/2024 20:35

For those of you who struggled with nausea and loose bowels, did anything help other than immodium? I managed not to embarrass myself at work today but was late due to vomiting, got home a short while ago & feel as though I have vomited up the dry crackers & apple I had at lunchtime and have scarcely left the bathroom! I'm getting a bit nervous as tomorrow I have to commute to out other office which is an hour's train journey, usually standing room only and then on Friday I'm going overseas for a long weekend and it includes dining out at a fancy pants restaurant.
I only took my second 3.75g dose last night so it still has a while to work through my system.
