Last-minute bridesmaid dress needed after seamstress disaster, is this suitable?

Help! The wedding is next week and my bridesmaid dress was a disaster. Now urgently trying to find something to wear.

it’s my sister’s wedding and she decided to have the dresses made by a seamstress but mine wasn’t fitted to me (too far away). It was also very late so I received it last week and it doesn’t fit. I knew I would have to get it altered but my seamstress took a look and said there was no chance without completely remaking it from scratch and there wasn’t time or fabric for that.

The bride accepted that but tasked me with finding an alternative and I have a week! Bride said she doesn’t want to help out so I’m on my own.

I’ve ordered some from coast but I’ve tried a few from there and they don’t tend to fit me too well.

I’ve ordered this dress. Is it too young for a 41 year old woman (I was told I look about 30…).

The idea was he dresses would be unique but no time for that now! Do you think someone might turn up wearing the same??

I have sparkly silver heels to go with it.

What length was the dress that the seamstress made?

Springged · 23/03/2026 16:30

It was maxi but due to some other issues, length isn’t as important now.

Too short for a bridesmaid dress? I’m worried a maxi dress will need altering and I don’t have a seamstress now.

What about a multi way infinity dress? You could get this delivered tomorrow and taken up in a dry cleaners if needed. Some do same day alterations.

Im 41 and would def wear it

Looks fine / nice for bridesmaid !!!!

Poppingby · 23/03/2026 16:39

What are the original dresses like and are they all the same?

LadyDancealot · 23/03/2026 16:40

Defo not 'too young" (hate that expression and all it implies..) for you but the deep v could be troublesome bra-wise. Any brief or hints you could fling us? If you have an unusual shape, then you need something easily and quickly alterable, such as take up hem, - which that dress isn't. Lovely apart from that.

JustGiveMeReason · 23/03/2026 17:08

Does it need to match of 'fit in with' other bridesmaids on the day?
I am aware there is a fashion to have bridesmaids not matching at the moment, but there is still generally a theme or something which brings them altogether.

Bit difficult for even the superstars on the S&B threads to hel without knowing the parameters.

Springged · 23/03/2026 18:23

Originally all bridesmaids dresses were the same colour. Two were one style (one long, one short), and two were a very different style (one long, one short). Mine was supposed to be long, sweetheart neckline, strappy, maxi, chiffon.

Because it hasn’t worked out we’ve agreed mine will match the other colour in the bridal party (navy), so I’ll look more like MOH instead.

The bride just said to get something I liked and could maybe wear again.

SIL was also worried about the plunging neckline. I don’t have a large chest but need some support so I’ve found a winderbra on sale that allows for a big gap at the front.

My other worry is someone will turn up with the same dress.
I once went to a wedding as a guest and unbeknown to me, my dress perfectly matched the colour of the bridesmaids- I was mortified. Didn’t even know the couple that well!

Oh god the bride must be so stressed!

The dress looks lovely. I didn't initially think it screamed bridesmaid but it sounds like it will be a bit of a mismatch anyway. I doubt anyone will be wearing the same (would be very unlucky)!

I did have a look for you but not many options in navy with next day delivery

They had a few other designs at monsoon too. Appreciate you would need to have taken up but depending where you live a dry cleaner should be able to do it.

Are you able to put up pic of what was made for comparison?

What about something like this?

I’d prefer a longer style personally.

Too booby.

This is the style of the other dresses, different colour but one long and one the same length as the dress I linked.

I think it’s a lovely dress OP. If none of the other bridesmaids match either I don’t see the problem.

Springged · 23/03/2026 19:10

Aw, thanks everyone! I’ve been staring at dresses all day so really helpful links!
Two of the dresses will be the same length as the one I linked and I was only avoided longer because I was worried about getting it altered in time.

Bear with me, I’ll link the contingency dresses I’ve also ordered!

Option 2 (maybe too dressy?)

Springged · 23/03/2026 19:16

Option 3 (are adjustable straps a bit naf)
