Last-minute bridesmaid dress needed after seamstress disaster, is this suitable?

Help! The wedding is next week and my bridesmaid dress was a disaster. Now urgently trying to find something to wear.

it’s my sister’s wedding and she decided to have the dresses made by a seamstress but mine wasn’t fitted to me (too far away). It was also very late so I received it last week and it doesn’t fit. I knew I would have to get it altered but my seamstress took a look and said there was no chance without completely remaking it from scratch and there wasn’t time or fabric for that.

The bride accepted that but tasked me with finding an alternative and I have a week! Bride said she doesn’t want to help out so I’m on my own.

I’ve ordered some from coast but I’ve tried a few from there and they don’t tend to fit me too well.

I’ve ordered this dress. Is it too young for a 41 year old woman (I was told I look about 30…).

The idea was he dresses would be unique but no time for that now! Do you think someone might turn up wearing the same??

I have sparkly silver heels to go with it.

Option 5 (possibly jersey fabric/too informal?)

@Springgedthe dress in your OP is lovely. I don’t think any guests are likely to wear a dress labelled as a bridesmaid dress.

RetiredGranny · 23/03/2026 23:59

Some Ever Pretty dresses are available on Amazon with next day delivery with Prime.

WeightLossGoal2024 · 23/03/2026 23:59

I love option 2

StarryStaryNight · 24/03/2026 05:42

I like option 2.

What about a multi way infinity dress? You could get this delivered tomorrow and taken up in a dry cleaners if needed. Some do same day alterations.

Another vote for this. My DIL chose these for her bridesmaids and they all styled them to their own preference.

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/03/2026 06:22

I’d buy a few and send back what you don’t like. So option 2 is my preferred but I’d also get option 3 as it’s from the same place. Get 2 sizes in each. And the multi way Amazon dress as back up. You just need a few options to see what fits best. And definitely a long dress to fit in with everyone else.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 24/03/2026 06:25

Options 2 and 3 look more like bridesmaid dresses.
Do the other bridesmaids have matching necklines?

AirborneElephant · 24/03/2026 07:24

Love this one. I don’t think you can be “too dressy” as the MOH, unless your sister is wearing something very low key.

AirborneElephant · 24/03/2026 07:26

Also if you’re worried about someone else wearing the same option 2 isn’t really a wedding guest style unless it’s a black tie dress code, whereas option 1 is (possibly with a panel or vest to reduce the cleavage).

665theneighborofthebeast · 24/03/2026 07:29

I think the dress you're considering is much nicer than the suggestions you have got.
If someone else ( and the odds are vanishingly small) turns up in the same dress they're going to be the ones embarrassed not you.

They will probably (very britishly )have to scuttle off and find a cardigan and hide at the back, because you are part of the wedding party and thats how it works.

Ophir · 24/03/2026 07:35

I like the Asda one tbh.

I like option 2 as well, but it’s very different to the other bridesmaids

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 24/03/2026 07:39

This is stunning, it’s meant to be dressy! Wonder bra do a fantastic strapless bra but try a few sizes on, in I had to go up a size use some Nivea “summer revived” fake tan on shoulders

lidlcheesetwist · 24/03/2026 08:00

OP, I have an unused and unworn bridesmaid dress that’s this style but in a forest green, not sure if it can be dyed navy? If it can, I’d be happy to post it to you first class tomorrow?

Ketryne · 24/03/2026 08:23

One tip from having done the ‘co-ordinating but not matching bridesmaids’ thing at a couple of weddings, it’s more important to match fabric/texture than shape, neckline or length. So if everyone else is in chiffon, I’d steer clear of heavy satin or stretchy/shiny fabrics. They tend to look really different.

LeeshaPaper · 24/03/2026 08:28

They are all fab. I like #5 the best. Good idea to order them all and return.
My bridesmaid wore a very similar dress to your #1 and I think she had hot pink shoes and maybe a hot pink fascinator. You could go with whatever the other bridal colours are.
Doesn't matter if someone else has the same dress, nobody will care.

CraftyYankee · 24/03/2026 08:55

If SIL mentioned the neckline may be too low I would not wear the first one. Isn't that British for "it's definitely too low and inappropriate"?😁

Laiste · 24/03/2026 09:03

Lots here with the floaty short sleeves which look really nice IMO.

Although slightly risky, i think buying one which is maxi length will ensure no one else will turn up in it.

daisydalrymple · 24/03/2026 09:13

My fave is the Monsoon Ellie on the Next link by @Poppingby i think it’s beautiful and would match the style / vibe of the bridesmaids dress you’ve posted.
Do let us know which one you choose! There’s some beautiful dresses posted here.

I have a dress I wore to a wedding a couple of years ago that could be perfect so although very unlikely, if you’re near the North Somerset/south Bristol area and can travel, are between 5 foot 1 and probably 5 foot 4-5ish, and I’d say a size 10-14 you’re welcome to either borrow it or have it for a tenner. It’s maxi, long sleeved chiffon and navy. Very flattering and I say size 10-14 as I wore it post partum as a short size 14 and it was very flattering and fit me and have tried it on since losing a lot of weight and could probably get away with it despite losing dress sizes. If miraculously it could be an option tag or message me and I’ll send you photos etc!
