Finally, the weather seems to have made up its mind as to where the snow will ^probably* fall today. For England Wales, in the warning areas I would expect a pretty slushy mix in general.

met office advisories

Yorkshire also ought to be aware overnight.

I am in for a nervous evening tomorrow.

Dh is driving up from Slough to Manchester, leaving at 4. It could be a long night.

southeastastra · 17/02/2010 15:26

it's beautiful today, all sunny like

petunia · 17/02/2010 18:26

Looking at several weather sites, they all seem to be in agreement that right across the middle of England we're going to get a load of snow tomorrow! (DH already doesn't think it'll happen though, as we were given warnings of heavy snow for today and all we've had (in Leicester) is fog, rain, sleet and a few flakes of snow!) I think anyone that has a journey through/in the Midlands, should listen to the radio and travel news tomorrow; it looks like it could get nasty.

(OYBBK, I was able to 'educate' DH today as to what 'graupels' are! He went on a day trip to London yesterday and noticed them at the train station when he got back, saying they looked like hail stones but weren't like 'normal' ones. I told him what they were called and that I'd learnt it from 'Mumsnet's Weatherlady!')

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2010 18:47

I did think tomorrow was borderline for many in the midlands, but I think I was wrong. (am often!) I'm still quite startled at how confident many are for tomorrow.

Round the birmingham area I think is most likely. Having seen that already there is snow falling in central England, perhaps I have erred on the side of pessimism.

Friday.... looks like a fair bit of snow potential too.

warnings

As petunia very rightly says, well worth keeping an eye on.

Petunia - at the graupel.

What are your views on Monday OYBBK?

mankyscotslass · 17/02/2010 21:16

Dh's trip tomorrow does look interesting.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2010 22:29

I'll be honest and say that I've not looked that far ahad grammer, am on lappy in bed so I'll have a good look in the am.

OP posts:
thegrammerpolicesic · 17/02/2010 22:38

It's showing heavy snow for Monday but then it did originally for yesterday and that didn't happen.
Too far ahead to tell for sure presumably?

thegrammerpolicesic · 17/02/2010 22:40

Should have said the BBC website is showing etc.

petunia · 18/02/2010 07:17

It says heavy snow for us as well (for Monday), on both the BBC and metoffice sites. A lot of the weather forums are getting 'excited' about it too! Oh lovely, just when the children are supposed to be going back to school!
Well we'll see what today brings. Apparently we're supposed to have sleet showers first followed by snow from 6pm-ish.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2010 08:25

morning
off to look at the models.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2010 08:27

Thanks OYBBK.Hi petunia. We had sleet yesterday and I was working outside.Very unpleasant.I'm going to work shortly and am wondering how much I'll get done before the snow gets to us.[I've namechanged BTW,was the poster with the chickens and the hole in the bathroom wall]..

I hope we don't get loads of snow/rain,my new kitchen is in the garage, waiting to be fitted next week, and if it is very wet,the garage has been known to flood.I'll be anxiously scanning the weather reports over the next few days.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2010 08:46

bl**dy hell at monday

okaydoke.
Today is def a rain turning to snow event. horrible for driving - any grit that is put down (if they have any left) will be in the drains before you know it. Tis an event mainly (but not exclusively) for the Midlands where it will carry on til the early hours. As Petunia says, starting at some point this evening for the main event.

tomorrow a few sleet and snow showers about the place.

Sat snow showers down ne coast. otherwise not a bad day for many.

Sunday - perhaps some sleety showers in midlands, otherwise for many, partic in south rather pleasant.

Monday - GFS is showing a low running up the channel producing significant precipitation in the south, quite possibly snow. the gfs does seem to indicate snow. Looking at other models, nogaps seems to show roughly the same thing, ukmo does not show it on this run. My instinct is to go with gfs.

hooray for your new kitchen 101!!

I'm in North Worcestershire but working from home today - will watch for snow with interest (any excuse not to work .

DH has to drive to Tamworth (Staffs) and Luton airport today which is a bit of a worry though

mankyscotslass · 18/02/2010 08:51

Dh has aasked for a 1/2 day to try to get home before the worst of it.

SleepingLion · 18/02/2010 08:53

Hmm - am watching with interest: DS's birthday party on Saturday (we are in Worcestershire) and am picturing his face if it gets snowed off

So fingers crossed that the promise of not too bad for Saturday holds!

bratnav · 18/02/2010 09:09

Blardy hell, snow in Bristol again

Coming down in chunks

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2010 09:16

has it started already? this is the never ending winter!

OP posts:
petunia · 18/02/2010 09:41

A snow report already!
Quite bright here in Leicester at the moment, not expecting that to last!
I think someone here recommended this site last time we had snow.
