Morning all,
essentially at the moment this seems to be a week where it gets colder through the week. In the first half at least is seems predominantly dry with light snow showers down the eastern side on and off. Too far to look at the end of the week with any detail but hints I think of s potentially snowy weekend. I think this is a week to keep a closer eye on the forecasts as we have seen this winter sometimes things can develop quite quickly.

Umami · 06/02/2010 15:05

Kitten, a weather section! How fab!
My parents need to head back to the southwest at the end of the week. I'm keeping a close eye because they don't want to get caught out if there is snow.

duckyfuzz · 06/02/2010 19:48

oooohhh thanks kitten, watching this with interest!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/02/2010 20:56

@ GFS 00z for next weekend. Shows widespread snow through the weekend.
Lokking earlier in the week, still looks generally dry with snow showers down the eastern side increasing as the week goes on. Interstingly on weds into thursday it now shows precipitation arriving in Scot and spreading sw through thursday across the nw and Wales.

hmm, I think down in the south and east there's a chance for some light snow showers in the early hours tonight and perhaps into tomorrow. Might be sleety drizzle. not sure.

So mid week I might be able to cajole DH into asking his boss if he can come home and work from home due to the weather?

Umami · 08/02/2010 07:22

An icing sugar dusting of snow here in E.Kent this morning, and a steady, fine flutter coming down!

moonmother · 08/02/2010 11:33

Had snow here in South Bedfordshire since about 5am, was very light to start off with but getting heavier now and starting to settle, on the grass.

arionater · 08/02/2010 11:42

Was sleet earlier in Cambridge, but now proper snow and quite heavy. Not really setting yet, but may do if it carries on.

mummylin2495 · 08/02/2010 12:03

ooh i hope it comes to Bournemouth,we always seem to miss out and i love it.

FuriousGeorge · 08/02/2010 12:08

It's been snowing all morning in Leicestershire and is getting steadier as the day goes on.It looks like we will really get it on Friday, and DH and I had rescheduled going out to lunch then.We had to turn back when we went a few weeks back,as it was snowing too heavily and we thought we may get stuck.

mummylin2495 · 08/02/2010 12:08

this looks fab

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2010 18:35

Was snowing in central London on and off all day. was very very very very very cold.

very quick look ahead - increasingly snowy as we go on through the week. in general eastern areas faring better for snow.

mummylin - they have had their fair share there

we actually had a few flakes here earlier, but thats all it was.Its very cold here too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2010 21:47

def a proper winter this one. now if we could only have a proper summer.....

pretty much same thoughts as yesterday really. remaining wintery though the week. No huge amounts of snow but perhaps decent accumulations in se thurs/frid generally though the week the further east you are, the greater the chance of snow.
no better next week, in fact models show quite a decent snow potential.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2010 18:35

pretty much the same thoughts still!

Next week, I would definitely factor in a decent snow risk into any half term activities if it is half term in your area! At the moment it looks rather like.....early January. gulp.

fatsatsuma · 09/02/2010 20:23

I thought that the snow potential for the next week or so had been somewhat downgraded over the last day or two, but I'm very encouraged to see your last post! Do you reckon other areas apart from the East may still see some snow?

(have stocked the freezer with milk - am NOT going to be caught out this time )

petunia · 09/02/2010 20:28

I was looking at the forums bit of the netweather site yesterday and someone gave a link to that German site that I think you've mentioned before (wetterzentrale), and they were saying next week looks 'interesting' for snow! I think I managed to work out that the big splodge of blue near/over us might mean more cold weather/snow!
We have 1/2 term here in Leicester next week. DH's planning on having a day trip to London on Tuesday and we've got the dentist in Nottingham on Wednesday. Looks like we'll have to keep an eye on the weather then!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2010 22:23

fatsatsuma, I think for this week we aren't going to see huge amounts of disruptive snow. Just light sleet or snow showers in general.

If you look at next weeks charts on gfs though its a different story as Petunia has picked up on. not looked tonight but earler it was very interesting.
