Summer 2026 (1st June ~ start of meteorological Summer)

Yesterday (1st June) marked the start of meteorological summer (and the high temperatures last week were hot enough for some and enough to last the year!)

At the moment, the GFS thinks the first 10 days of June are looking unsettled and changeable, then slightly drier/warmer towards the end of next week but the unsettled theme still continues until the middle of the month.

Thoughts from Netweather (from a few days ago) and TheWeatherOutlook on what summer might have in store for us.

An early look ahead at what the UK summer may have in store

Ahead of the full summer forecast, an early look at what summer could have in store. One factor is a developing strong El Nino, which may have some influence.

I could live with that. I think it's only slightly warmer outside than in but the poor fur coated monster is definitely struggling right now. Can't wait to move house and make it more human/animal friendly 😩

Delatron · 24/06/2026 19:13

It’s annoying the portable aircon is only lowering the temperature a bit! You can tell when you walk in to the room but it’s not like built in aircon.

nannynick · 24/06/2026 15:21

Even portable aircon is only helping a bit. 25 degrees inside, 37 outside.

That's really impressive, lowering by full 12°

I dread to think what I'll find when I get home home tomorrow - I really hope I get home alright tomorrow with the travel situation - and I can't imagine the portable aircon lowering the temperature that much!

Though of course it will be doing battle with thermal bricks....

timoteigirl · 24/06/2026 21:33

Is the worst over after this week or are more heatwaves forecasted for this summer? Should I keep working and book my summer leave for September if the temperature has become more tolerable then?

PaperTyger · 24/06/2026 23:01

@timoteigirl no idea !
The next few days will be even harder as we won't get that night time early morning chance to flush cooler air in

Indeed I don't travel without a fan now as trains breaks down with no air con not that there was was much to begin with and then officials make poor descions that make things worse

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/06/2026 09:15

I’m hoping my local weather underground station is broken and has gone mad. It thinks it’s 31.9 at 9am.

Yesterday was a respite sea fret in the morning which burnt off to cooler fresher air but we're predicted ⚡⚡⚡ later apparently.

Conflicting forecast as usual

AccuWeather saying tomorrow will be worse, and they have been the best at forecasting for My area

I'm still puzzling over why there is air outside, but it won't get into my flat. I just don't understand it. I suppose it's been built to resist air getting through windows and balcony door... wut 🤔🤔

justasking111 · 25/06/2026 20:13

31c outside now. Jakers I'm melting 🥵

justasking111 · 25/06/2026 20:14

Ooh it's beginning ⚡⚡

Actually cool here tonight. I have closed all the doors and windows apart from the bedroom

The Met Office forecast for my area is 36° for tomorrow. It was 'only' 29° today. It's been accurate for the week so far.

Piggywaspushed · 25/06/2026 21:43

It's still extremely hot here. Portable Air con units are struggling. In the upstairs hall it is 34 degrees. 31 in the kitchen. 28.5 in my bedroom with an aircon unit that has been on since 2.30!

EmeraldRoulette · 25/06/2026 21:47

@Piggywaspushed that's about the same as me with aircon unit on

It's going to be 30° by about 9 am

ugh. I'm still off tomorrow. I've got to run some errands first thing in the morning and then I think I will try and find somewhere else to go but it tends to get worse as the day goes on.

nannynick · 26/06/2026 05:20

So hot last night. Hard to sleep.

Wellfuckme · 26/06/2026 11:28

We are predicted 18degrees tonight, I really hope so as there is a chance of sleep then.

justasking111 · Yesterday 10:47

Thank the lord it's cloudy, much cooler and there's a breeze.

Delatron · Yesterday 12:07

Im worried it will just warm back up next weekend and be horrific again.
.!

Not much cooler in the SE yet but think we are back down to 30…

Piggywaspushed · Yesterday 13:49

This is predicted! Back to low to mid 30s week after next ...

PaperTyger · Yesterday 16:48

Just heard a weather man on lbc saying 8 th July onwards we may get another blast

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · Yesterday 17:21

And the GFS from this morning suggests that for the south/SE (and occasionally the rest of the country), the heat doesn't really go away with temperatures from now onwards ranging from mid 20s to low 30sC....
