Summer 2026 (1st June ~ start of meteorological Summer)

Yesterday (1st June) marked the start of meteorological summer (and the high temperatures last week were hot enough for some and enough to last the year!)

At the moment, the GFS thinks the first 10 days of June are looking unsettled and changeable, then slightly drier/warmer towards the end of next week but the unsettled theme still continues until the middle of the month.

Thoughts from Netweather (from a few days ago) and TheWeatherOutlook on what summer might have in store for us.

Rain here too, proper rain on the coast, mostly drizzle here a mile inland, the garden will be delighted 😀

It went grey here ( SE) but no rain. We so desperately need some. I was hoping August would see a turn in the dry hot weather but looking at next weeks forecast it appears not

nothing in south east London either - its not even cool like they said it would be, we've just driven for an hour and it was 27 the whole time. This is never-ending!

I think you're absolutely stuffed in the south east. I'm sorry for households and farmers.

@justasking111 in some ways summer has been glorious, long evenings in the garden, washing drying, after work drinks on a Friday in London pubs - all bliss. But this has been never ending and the houses are hot and uncomfortable. The tube is hideous and farmers and gardens really need a break. We’ve enjoyed it for the most part and I’m loathe to complain but back in the 30s this week is a lot

We had about two misty drops of rain in North Hampshire. I could see the rain on rain radar skirting around us.

Not a drop of rain here, very cloudy, warm and humid.

Some light rain this morning on the south west coast. We woke to a massive rainbow after a sprinkling of rain, then we were out early on the beach with the dogs where the sea was quite choppy and the sky was cloudy, but still warm.

Another shower as we arrived home and now the cloud is breaking up and the sun popping back out. Still quite breezy. We are forecast mid-twenties for the rest of the week with only a 35% chance of rain again on Thursday.

We are in France about 100km north of the fires near Bordeaux. Right now it’s drizzling enough to form drips off gutters and shop canopies. Praying it rains enough to dampen down the fires.

Same here. We went to local woodland and deliberately enjoyed getting soaked. It has poured down all day here on the NE coast of England. Great for the gardens and parched grass everywhere. Also great for the wildflowers and nectar stores for the bees!

I think we are. Forecasts go up to the 8th and no rain in sight..

Oh gosh. Fingers crossed it can help put a stop to the awful fires there. Sounds terrifying.

We’re ok here as there are no active fires and no smoke. But it is weird knowing they are not that far away. We holidayed there before Covid so know the area.
Mind you, not so different to home - we live in S Wales so Blaenavon is not that far away, and have visited near Conwy mountain up north. So many areas in Europe affected.

So a new week and more heat to come before things ease off very slowly from late this week/over the weekend. The midlands/south/SE might still have to put up with temperatures in the mid 20sC into next week but hopefully things are moving in a cooler/changeable direction.

Apparently it rained at some point last night. I think it did anyway. The ground is dry but there are definitely a few little puddles in the road, unless I'm seeing mirages 🤔

I can just about cope with mid 20Cs but above 27C and me and my swollen ankles struggle too much, so hopefully it's more 22/25C!

So today looks like being the hottest day of this heatwave and it begins to cool down as we go into tomorrow.

We're still cloudy. Could be the mountain fires affecting the atmosphere. There's no rain it's around 19c.

My allergies are coughing the last week so maybe particulates in the air.

I hope it really does cool down - the supposed cooldown in London over the last weekend never happened and it still looks to be 27 over the weekend. Where is the rain?!

there is no cool down in the forecast but I have learned not to trust it, we didn't have a cool down at the weekend either

Trust me, I am obsessed with the forecast!

There will be some silly headlines because they just mean it's not going to be as hot as today, 35°. But they don't mean an actual nice summer temperature.

The south/SE cools down slightly but temperatures for next week are all over the place, anywhere from the low-high 20sC. As for rain ~ Scotland/northern England are the most likely areas but there might be some (although not much) for the rest of the country at times.

Thanks @GloriaSmud there does seem to be uncertainty over how much it will cool down and it does keep changing and not much agreement between forecasts.

Some rain in the south is much needed. For Monday the BBC (usually inaccurate) has us as 26 and sunny. So still warm. My phone says 23 and 50% chance of rain - very different! Off to check the Met Office. It makes planning dog walks around my work really tricky as he can’t go out over 23 degrees so I need to know if I have to get up super early.

Gah it does appear that any rain that looked likely for next week in the SE is disappearing from the forecast.
