Beating the Chun Rub! Help!

*Edit - Title should say CHUB RUB not Chun Rub 🙄

Ladies (and others whose thighs chafe when not separated by winter clothing!)

So, the weather is HOT and I've brought out the summer dresses in a (mostly futile) attempt to stay cool. The issue is that my thighs are used to being separated by a layer of denim on each side and have no idea how to interact with grace when it's been removed. The friction, sticking together (even when I'm walking, making me put in a weird Igor-worthy stride every few steps), and sweatiness caused by the whole situation is infuriating and actually quite painful. As I type this, I'm sitting with a frozen hot water bottle between my legs to reduce the redness and stinging sensation.

What do you similarly affected folk do to avoid/mitigate/stop this happening altogether?! Please help!

As others have said I just wear the chub rub type shorts/cycling shorts instead of normal knickers and no it doesn't feel too hot, not to me anyway. Itjust makes the whole wearing of skirts and dresses more comfortable in hot weather.

bumblingbovine49 · 01/07/2025 13:25

This sort of thing

Wardrobefred · 01/07/2025 14:16

I have found these life changing. They're very thin and I find I feel much cooler than sweaty thighs rubbing together. I haven't found cotton cycle shorts good becuase dresses cling to them.

Step One Body Shorts are excellent, especially if want to avoid Snag.

All the shorts are way too hot for me; I've tried every brand but personally it ruins wearing a cool floaty dress for me. So I use Lanacane, carry it in my handbag and reapply if needed. It works perfectly and is much more comfortable. However, if you have sore skin from previous chafing you will need to wear shorts until it's healed. From my extensive survey, I like the Big Bloomers ones best. Snag ones are made of tights material and I find them unbelievably sweaty and heavy to wear.

I thought it was just me who found Snag shorts hot!

I wear Jockey Skimmies slip shorts and don't find them too hot. They do a cooling one but I haven't tried it yet.

I brought some step one pants. Very effective

CherryogDog · 01/07/2025 16:06

I bought Step One pants but the rolled up. Also got the Wirarpa from Amazon, and they stayed in place all day.

Kuretake · 01/07/2025 16:10

My thighs have some sort of weird Escher topography that mean that all fitted shorts immediately roll up to my knickers so I have to use a balm.

I recently upgraded to some Snag shorts because everyone raves about them, and I hate them. They're far too long for me and I don't like how tight they are at the bottom, or the gussets.

I'm a huge fan of the M&S cooling shorts - they stay cool, you don't need knickers under them, and the cuffs don't dig into your thighs. I wear them all summer now. They're just a bit boring, I wish they did fun colours.

Say goodbye to uncomfortable thigh rubbing thanks to these clever shorts. With added stretch and a touch of cotton, the shorts have a flexible feel that lets you move freely and a wide waistband that stays put. They're designed to eliminate chafing and...

Wirapa, who do the comfiest pants known to female kind, do a shorts version. I have swapped out my snag chub rub shorts for these. Cotton and don't require knickers under so saving a layer.

Yes I have these too... super comfy.

Big bloomer company. They keep
you a degree cooker under dresses and are better than snag. Wash them without softener to keep them moisture wicking.

I have both big bloomer and snag, I prefer the big bloomer ones as they are less like tights, a bit more opaque, and a bit shorter. I like to wear them in a matching colour under short dresses in the summer, and wouldn't feel comfortable wearing a very short dress if someone would see my knickers (or even the top of my thighs) when I bent over - I'm not good at acting ladylike in a dress. The snag ones are a bit long to wear under a short summer dress they sometimes show all the time. The big bloomers are more like shorts, but cool, though I don't wear anything else under them.

I have these ones too and they're brilliant. I spent years doing the deodorant trick, liquid talc etc but nothing is as effective as shorts under a dress. These feel cool so I don't get too hot and most importantly I'm not supporting Snag and their terrible ethos.

I also like knowing that if a big gust of wind blows my dress over my head I won't be too exposed. That's never happened so is completely irrational but there you go!

Shufflebumnessie · 01/07/2025 21:42

Thanks for asking this as I was going to post the same. Just something to avoid is Lanacane Anti-chafing gel. I've used it yesterday and today, initially it seems ok but within 10 minutes it's all disappeared, and now my thighs are red raw and extremely sore. I've heard good things about liquid talc so that'll be my next purchase.

I hate their ethos, but can’t fault the chub rub shorts. I have 6 pairs and they’re very hard wearing.

What's wrong with their ethos?

shutterbug23 · 01/07/2025 22:27

I swear by the M&S Anti-Chafe shorts! They don’t make you too hot as they’re super breathable fabric. I always wear them on holiday & makes summer dresses so much more comfortable!

Big bloomers. But size down. I'm a large 12 and went for size 10, which are perfect. Don't be tempted by M&S, they ride up in the middle and expose the bit that chafes worst.

Why are these so expensive compared to Sloggi which also do a great job?

thingsineverthoughtidsay · 01/07/2025 22:54

Primark anti-chafe shorts are great. Personally, I feel cooler and fresher with them on, than I do with bare thighs. Nice and cheap, and very comfortable.
Liquid talc didn’t work for me at all.

FarmGirl78 · 01/07/2025 23:32

After spending 3 days in Rome a few years ago with weeping scabs on my inner thighs from walking fast to keep up with my boyfriend (romantic, NOT!) I bought an antichaffing stick from Decathlon. I can't remember the name but it was in a green and orange tube, and underneath in German it said "Anti frottement" which made me laugh to myself. It was only about £4 so cheaper than all these Mega babe or chub rub solutions.

That makes the sloggi ones look reasonable

The link is to a 3 pack, but single still a bit more expensive than Sloggi. Also they are nylon as opposed to Sloggi’s cotton, so I shall still recommend Sloggi. I found Snag too long in leg and body (came up to my boobs, not nice being cocooned in nylon on a hot day) and not keen on nylon.

Gardengirl108 · 02/07/2025 10:44

Another vote for Snag’s chub rub shorts. They are breathable, cool and don’t ride up. Come in lots of colours. It’s a shame you didn't ask earlier because their 3 for 2 offer on them just ended. I’m not on commission btw.
