Beating the Chun Rub! Help!

*Edit - Title should say CHUB RUB not Chun Rub 🙄

Ladies (and others whose thighs chafe when not separated by winter clothing!)

So, the weather is HOT and I've brought out the summer dresses in a (mostly futile) attempt to stay cool. The issue is that my thighs are used to being separated by a layer of denim on each side and have no idea how to interact with grace when it's been removed. The friction, sticking together (even when I'm walking, making me put in a weird Igor-worthy stride every few steps), and sweatiness caused by the whole situation is infuriating and actually quite painful. As I type this, I'm sitting with a frozen hot water bottle between my legs to reduce the redness and stinging sensation.

What do you similarly affected folk do to avoid/mitigate/stop this happening altogether?! Please help!

Lying here tonight feeling very sting-y after unexpectedly having to do a half hour walk earlier in a skirt and top ... Unfortunately the CR was off the charts.

Be careful with anything with talc; there's an ovarian cancer scare linked to it.

“Talc” isn’t actually talc any more, it’s cornstarch so no issue

HermioneWeasley · 01/07/2025 09:20

Agree with @Bigearringsbigsmile those sloggi long line knickers are the best. They’re cotton and breathable and don’t ride up

i HATED the Snag ones - they’re like cut off tights. They were really hot and I wouldn’t be able to wear nylon with nothing underneath so need pants as well.

Gettingbysomehow · 01/07/2025 09:23

I can't be bothered with creams and talcs so messy. everyone I know wears chub rub shorts under their dresses. They are very thin and you don't need to wear pants.
I just get cheap ones off amazon.

Fairnair · 01/07/2025 09:28

You can get anti chaff sticks, I have used one called “Body Glide” which is good, but there are lots of similar products on Amazon, or just see if a larger chemist has anything.

Worldgonecrazy · 01/07/2025 09:35

I keep old laddered tights and cut straight across just below mid thigh. Perfect under dresses.

For shorts I use stick deodorant- cheaper than any of the creams.

Fairnair · 01/07/2025 09:39

I also echo what a previous poster said about using sudocrem initially if very sore. Last year I was in agony, inner thighs very red and sore, lathered sudocrem on, and once the redness had gone done a bit I bought the Body Glide stick.

Linen / viscose mix trousers from M&S.

Aaaahhhhh ..... 🤗

Giggorata · 01/07/2025 09:52

Snag are brilliant, (unfortunately, due to aforementioned kink/XL sexualisation and shitty reaction when called out)
Despite being apparent tights material, they are cool to wear and have an airy gusset piece. They don't ride up.

Those cotton ones from Amazon and similar are good but quite thick. Cotton or not, they don't keep me cool the way Snag do.
I am thinking of switching to Underpops from Popsy and would appreciate any informed views. Are they cool? do they ride up? Do they wear and wash well?

Phoebesparrow · 01/07/2025 10:08

I buy chub rub shorts by better tights
Snag are amazing but I don't agree with their ethos
Men cannot, and will never be a woman,no matter how many dresses they wear
(Snag basically told anyone who disagrees to fuck off-so I did)
Better are exactly the same as snag (maybe less colours but I only buy the black ones,so I don't really care)
If I don't wear them,my inner thighs are basically bleeding by the end of the day

BasicBrumble · 01/07/2025 10:25

The sloggi long knickers mentioned early on are excellent. They will likely be in an Amazon prime deal next week.

These are great. They can be worn instead of pants and never make me too hot

I would avoid Snag as they push weird fetish stuff and have labelled women (including domestic violence victims) as bullies for criticising Snag for selling patches that say "Choke Me".

Have two pairs of these (black and cream) that I have been wearing for five years and they never let me down. They don't squeeze the skin and they stay put.

jenny38 · 01/07/2025 10:42

Another vote for sloggi here. You need to find the right fit of shorts for you. Sloggi are expensive, but they do last years. I’ve tried all the creams too, body glide wasn’t too bad.

My go to is Lanacane anti-chafing gel, available in Superdrug, and my thighs are …. sturdy.

Second vote for Lanacane. Cheap and very effective.

NamefromNowhere · 01/07/2025 10:43

I bought Reamphy anti-chaffing shorts at £18.99 for pack of 3. (Sorry, my phone doesn't let me paste a link.) Got them from Amazon.
They are great, I couldn't do without them. I am 5ft 4 and size 14-16 and bought the XL size. They don't rise up and are relatively cool. Highly recommend.

DancingCactusFlower · 01/07/2025 10:50

Lanacane anti chafe (not sure if discontinued) or Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. I run long distances and get very sweaty and both of these work well.

ToadRage · 01/07/2025 11:00

SarahLHs · 30/06/2025 21:48

Chub rub shorts from snag tights are amazing. They are so breathable but stop the horrible thigh chafe.

I second these, I wore them all the time on my cruise last year i had a black pair and flesh-coloured pair, i have even worn the black ones this year while its been so hot but my flesh-coloured ones have gone missing. If its not too hot i wear leggings all year round with dresses, not very confident about my legs so leggings are a life saver and they go with everything, pair with boots in winter and trainers or sandals in the summer.

I have both Snag and Popsy ones. Tbh I can't tell the difference other than remembering which colours were from where.

ApoodlecalledPenny · 01/07/2025 11:14

3B anti chafe cream is my go to Amazon link here. It's an Aussie brand and I figure they know a thing or two about hot weather. I never got on with the snag style long Johns - I find them a bit hot, and I don't like how they look under skirts. I always wear knee length so you can see the odd glimpse and I just felt like it shouted "I have a sweaty crotch". A cream that works feels nicer to me.

Dove solid deodorant applied to both sides. Used it for years. Zero chaffing. Zero soreness. Zero sweating. Costs £2.40 at Tesco. Beat that!

Yes, this.

BasicBrumble · 01/07/2025 11:20

Step One ladies body shorts are good too. Expensive but sometimes have offers on.

Comtesse · 01/07/2025 11:33

Mega Babe thigh rescue. I went to a nightclub in Hong Kong in June wearing this and danced a lot and I didn’t get chub rub. I do not think there is a more thorough test than this.

nex18 · 01/07/2025 13:17

Cheapo chub rub shorts from Amazon or primark do the job but are very unattractive. I recommend deodorant and then blow drying with the cool setting on your hairdryer. Sudocrem to treat any previous chafing (and any other ailments tbh!)
Edited to add, I tried snag chub rub shorts but they made a noise as they rubbed together!
