I think this is the earliest in the season that we have reached the letter 'I' in the met office naming system. The previous record being Storm Imogen on 8 Feb 2016.
Its certainly been an active season so far.

Amber warnings for wind for some parts, yellow for the rest, with widespread gales possible across the UK. Some fairly worrying flood concerns too where lots of rain will fall during a rapid snow and ice melt onto frozen ground.

Take care @CliffsofMohair

You too @FuzzyCaoraDhubh hopefully Cork won’t be hit as bad again. I have family in Midleton.

Knackeredhamster · 21/01/2024 10:46

South Devon.

Putting the washing out in ten mins. The temp is X2 warmer than yesterday. Live quite high up. Will use more pegs. Exciting that laundry might be quite dry.

This is my life lol

Makinglists · 21/01/2024 10:54

We've been upgraded to amber here in Plymouth. Gusty earlier on but now quite still. Shall be an interesting day

hoochycrone · 21/01/2024 10:59

Amber most places today and tomorrow 😮 take care everyone.

GloriaSmud · 21/01/2024 10:59

The upgrade to an amber warning doesn't really surprise me ~ possible wind gusts at 9pm tonight...

And for those that feel they have to travel, the metoffice has some advice about driving in strong wind/ heavy rain here.

@Knackeredhamster you line drying ninja you Grin

elm26 · 21/01/2024 11:05

My parents are landing in Gatwick at 6pm 😩

GloriaSmud · 21/01/2024 11:11

Washing might be about to go out here as well!

I'm nervously looking at the rather over-filled skip my neighbours have got next door at the moment. They've been having their bathrooms done and there's stuff like flattened cardboard and polystyrene packaging in there. Some of it's already blown off in the last day or two and that's even before we get to this storm. 😱

MysticalMegx · 21/01/2024 11:13

No washing getting hung out, forecast heavy rain for the next 2 days aswel as high winds in West Yorkshire 😭

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 21/01/2024 11:25

I'm in Northern Ireland but a fairly sheltered area near Belfast. It's a bit breezy here at the moment but it's definitely getting windier. Our bins have all been secured anything else in the garden has been shoved in the shed. I'm as ready as I'm going to be!

SoRainbowRhythms · 21/01/2024 11:31

Been out trying to secure my poor old fence that only just survived Henk. About to put the house in the market so just praying it survives!

HelpMeGetThrough · 21/01/2024 11:36

Is gusting Force 7 here on the south coast of Cornwall at the moment, so not too bad.

Looking at the forecast, it isn't meant to be much more than that over night.

Namechangesab · 21/01/2024 11:37

On Isha already?? That means my name is next according to the Met Office list.

Hope it doesn't get to that point and that Isha isn't too bad.

Haha

Crazy times

It's flapping

Daftasabroom · 21/01/2024 12:02

If you look at forecasts its going to be a really windy week. Climate change is without doubt causing more extreme weather, but the weather events are also lasting much longer. We're now in an El Nino which has already pushed temperatures up by 1.5C, we can expect up to five years of this.

I think it's ramping up a bit over night on the South Coast of Cornwall ...

That looks like neaps which will keep the surge in check for a couple of days.

justasking111 · 21/01/2024 12:36

It's arrived here NW Wales, gusting hard. I've advised son to leave early today to get back to Leeds because this storm will be chasing him home.

HelpMeGetThrough · 21/01/2024 12:37

It certainly is a little breezy in Falmouth. Just wondering which storm is going to see my tree come down in the side garden.

i have my electrical check tommorrow but the chances of a power cut here are high We ALWAYS get problems when its windy. Ive been threatened by the HA that i cant cancel it with less than 24 hours notice as it will be counted as failure to provide access. IF a PC occurs before his arrival i will just have to let him attend. (assuming they dont cancel it themselves) This HA has lied about tenants not allowing access for gas safety checks before when it was engineers not turning up. (it was even featured on Dispatches on Channel 4) so i dont trust them if i do have to cancel . BEFORE ANYONE STARTS yes i realise the electrician might decide its too dangerous to drive and thats fine. Im leaving the ball in their court because of their threats. Might help to not always be booking stuff like this in the winter.

BiddyPop · 21/01/2024 14:24

4 go arounds and a few others look like making some holding pattern moves before attempting this afternoon at Dublin airport. It was a dry start but was heavy rain mid-morning. DH has taken the dog out for a good run in that rain before it gets properly bad later.

Meanwhile, Brussels is definitely warmer as footpaths are emerging from snow/ice as it thaws. But quite a windy day with strong gusts and quite swirly. (Looking at flags outside my window changing direction a lot, and seeing my 3 breeze soleil panels go sliding in both directions along my south facing balcony...).
