Hope that's not heading our way in West Lancs, @PiggieWig! If it's following wind direction it won't be!

The wind seems to be dropping a bit though...calm before the storm?

Happyme2024 · 28/12/2023 03:13

I can't sleep. I just nodded off and dreamt a plane was flying over and bombing us- it must have been the noise of the wind.

LonelynSad · 28/12/2023 03:25

Further north than most of you. Just got a gate-rattling wind

MsInterpret · 28/12/2023 03:53

Also woken up by wind and rain battering the windows. Having a hot drink and hoping to nod back off...

Rowgtfc72 · 28/12/2023 04:16

Biking to work in half an hour. 46mph gusts apparently.
Just opened the back door to find dhs resto mini on a dolly has travelled the garden and wedged itself by the back door. Let's cross fingers I can manhandle my bike round the furniture and out the front door!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/12/2023 04:26

@Rowgtfc72 stay safe! We're also East Coast (Suffolk) and the wind has completely dropped here so hopefully it will do the same where you are.

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/12/2023 05:19

Morning all. Still blowing here in Cornwall, but nowhere near as bad as yesterday and last night, but still strong enough.

Did sleep in the end for a few hours.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/12/2023 06:38

Still blowing here too, but a mere 45-ish gusts, rather than a constant 55-60mph.

I managed to get back to sleep about 3.30 as the speed was dropping at that point, so was quieter.

RampantIvy · 28/12/2023 06:42

I have missed it here (Newcastle), but it looks like I will be driving back into the eye of the storm today.

CrunchyCarrot · 28/12/2023 07:59

Waking up to being battered by heavy rain. I suspect a lot of us didn't sleep well last night!

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/12/2023 08:23

Heavy rain showers here and Force 6 gusting 7. Apparently getting stronger mid morning.

CrunchyCarrot · 28/12/2023 08:57

Oh goodness just been out to the garden and found one of our fence panels ripped out! Sturdy panels in concrete posts. Sigh.

beenrumbled · 28/12/2023 09:22

So about 2300-2330 last night I was woken by what sounded like the roof coming off and the bedroom window coming in. It sounded like rain was hammering the windows and a plane landing on the house. DD is home from university and came running into us. She usually loves a storm but she was really frightened.

It lasted a couple of minutes then was calm.

I've woken this morning to reports of a tornado in Stalybridge, which is a few miles north east of me at around the same time so I'm assuming it was the squall lone or front that created that moving through.

December 2023 has been our month for extreme weather in the Manky household!

Happyme2024 · 28/12/2023 09:55

Bloody hell!!!

We did get a battering Anglesey west coast took the brunt of it
We've the mountain range to the west of us so are somewhat in it's shadow. Pwllheli, abersoch, Caernarfon, Trevor being in it's furious path .

The flooding iand landslips is my main worry I never want to see that again, happened twice in the nineties. We've some flooding but it's in fields for now.

It's still blowing hard but easing off. Saturday is a day I'm not looking forward to.

Interesting tornado path

RampantIvy · 29/12/2023 08:51

I drove through an electrical storm yesterday evening. It was about 7.45, and the sky was flashing. I have never seen anything like this in December before. I'm summer after a hot spell is more usual.

LooksABitElvish · 29/12/2023 21:05

Yikes!
