We had 8cm of rain today in north east Scotland. Our village has been cut off for many hours. Rain has now stopped and water is subsiding.

ChihuahuasREvil · 27/12/2023 23:23

I’m in Shropshire. We’ve had some huge gusts here in the last 30 minutes. It’s calm down now but no doubt it will be back up again. Horrendous wins today, the worst I’ve seen for awhile.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/12/2023 23:30

We're on the East Anglian coast. It's been windy today but no rain. We went for a walk by the sea at lunchtime and the waves were quite wild.

It's really mild, I'm currently lying in my (single glazed) drafty bedroom with no quilt over me as it's too hot.

Workworkandmoreworknow · 27/12/2023 23:31

Stay safe everyone. I am in my attic room listening to the wind!

LooksABitElvish · 27/12/2023 23:40

North Derbyshire hills. Amazing wind gusts. Smashed my big heavy plant pot and next door neighbour’s recycling bin has just had a tour of our garden. I hope our solar panels are securely fastened on!

Objectrelations · 27/12/2023 23:44

We have had two months of heavy rain and really strong winds here in Jersey starting with the Hurricane force wind at the beginning of November. It's been totally
relentless except for the odd 1 day off here and there.

Pigsinpainauchocolat · 27/12/2023 23:44

@elfintinsel I have friends near there and they were saying the wind was crazy this morning and it's been lashing rain most of the day. But it's calmed down tonight. They missed an event today as just not safe to travel. I'm glad you are safe.

Other friends got stuck on the A90 near Forfar until police arrived and started shepherding folk past the part that looks like it's washed away.

It's been so wet for so long, there's nowhere for all the water to go round there! I'm hoping Brechin is ok after the last lot of flooding they had.

On a positive note our reservoir levels are much healthier this year.

"Reservoir levels | United Utilities" https://www.unitedutilities.com/help-and-support/your-water-supply/your-reservoirs/reservoir-levels/

Our reservoir levels appear to have dropped ever so slightly. No idea how with all the rain about, unless it’s folk washing all the mud off.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 28/12/2023 00:06

South Yorkshire/West Yorkshire border - just started blowing a hooley here, rain pelting down against the windows.

justasking111 · 28/12/2023 00:26

Poor Manchester, sounds truly awful

justasking111 · 28/12/2023 00:27

Tornado?

@OhYouBadBadKitten it's Thursday. Where I am there is no let up in the wind till Saturday evening and then it's back Sunday afternoon. It's been like this for a week now.

What turns it from simple bad and windy weather to a storm worthy of a name? I mean apart from the fact when it hits the south it seems newsworthy in a way that the North isn't 😁

Scottish weather/flooding was lead story on BBC news at 10 pm tonight x

Rowgtfc72 · 28/12/2023 00:43

East coast here and absolutely howling outside. I hate windy weather and it's quieter downstairs so I'm up. I get up for work at 330am and bike to work at 5. That should be interesting!

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/12/2023 00:53

Wind has strengthened again down here in Cornwall, it did ease a fair bit earlier, but blowing again.

Keeping me awake as well.

tchotchke · 28/12/2023 01:17

Staleybridge, Manchester has been hit by what they think is a tornado. Extensive damage reported.

wineandsunshine · 28/12/2023 01:25

Southampton here and quite windy! It's keeping me awake!

whirlingdevonish · 28/12/2023 01:47

High tides along with storm waves have caused some spectacular high waters at our local harbour. And some spectacular stupid behavior from folk getting too close to the action for the sake of a picture.

ghostyslovesheets · 28/12/2023 01:59

Tamworth- convinced we just had some kind of mini tornado down our road! It was so loud in scared for my roof. I can’t sleep at all

ghostyslovesheets · 28/12/2023 02:00

I’m not in

NoWordForFluffy · 28/12/2023 02:01

I'm amazed this only has a yellow warning attached to it as it's hideous. I'm not usually alarmed by weather, but the storm last night, and now how strong this wind is blowing, are really making me jittery. Not sure I'm in for much more sleep at this rate.

coxesorangepippin · 28/12/2023 02:04

This sounds awful

Stay safe folks

ArcaneWireless · 28/12/2023 02:07

elfintinsel · 27/12/2023 22:51

As it was a yellow warning, I went 20 miles on country roads to a funeral. It wasn't great but doable getting there. Getting home was an entirely different matter. Roads closed because of flooding, others should have been closed and I nearly got stuck, trees falling, wheelie bins flying. It was awful. I definitely think it was the wrong level predicted by the met office. It felt like Arwen.
The wind inland sound like we were right on the beach. It was so noisy.

I have to agree that it was the wrong level of warning.

Conditions were dreadful up here. And yes, dangerous.

hattie43 · 28/12/2023 02:07

South Hampshire here and wind has just woken me up , very strong gusts and the noise omg

Agreed - I can’t sleep at all I’m pretty scared and I’m usually a tough nut!

PiggieWig · 28/12/2023 02:42

Wild here in Lancs. We’ve just had thunder.
