Alright, I've cracked! Its time to get the ball rolling on this festive thread. Xmas Grin
19 days to go to Christmas day. I've got less time than usual to contribute to the thread but there is plenty of space for everyone to have a go.

At the moment I'd say that its all up in the air (groan). While mild and unsettled is the most likely outcome, there are some weak signals that we might be moving back to a colder regime sometime around Christmas or New Year. Especially for the usual north and northeast regions.

Ha yes the BBC one (usually the least accurate) has sunny spells for us so I’m going with that. Still mild but I’d take a bit of sun.

I miss those beautiful frosty, sunny November mornings we had. This current weather (and looks like this for the foreseeable, is dire)

RedToothBrush ~ Xmas Grin

GFS at the moment.....

Christmas Eve ~ Mild everywhere to start with, could be some showers around. Cold front moves south overnight and temperature starts dropping, could be quite windy in Scotland.

Christmas Day ~ cloudy for most of the country, temperatures 7-10C. Chance of wintry showers in Scotland, more likely over the hills.

Boxing Day ~ risk of wintry showers again for Scotland. Dry/cloudy for the rest of the country but colder 6-8C

Windy here on the NE coast of England and its due to be windy tomorrow. On Thursday, we have a weather warning for... even windier fucking wind. I question why I live here, sometimes!

Christmas will therefore likely be mild ish, grey ish and windy ish.

SequentialAnalyst · 19/12/2023 20:45

Nice still evening here near Durham, @RainbowZebraWarrior
But a tile blew off last weekend, so maybe more will go tomorrow, when I'm sure the wind will pick up.

Delatron · 22/12/2023 19:00

So still looking very mild. BBC reporting maybe it will be the mildest Christmas Eve on record with potentially 15 degrees in London.

Gah. Opposite of what I ordered. But I guess nobody will be getting stuck in any snow…in England at least.

Delatron · 22/12/2023 19:01

I mean quite often it can be 15/16 degrees in summer!

EasternStandard · 22/12/2023 19:02

15 degrees is mild

I remember it was that on NYE in the dreaded pandemic as we had a party outside

hoochycrone · 23/12/2023 07:30

Happy Christmas everyone, especially OYBBK 🎄🎄🎄
But, I have one snowflake for my area W Yorks for next Friday on Met office website 😮🛷???
Trying not to get excited 😔

GloriaSmud · 23/12/2023 07:45

Well not really Christmassy and not the 'chilly days and frosty nights' that I thought would happen at the beginning of the thread!

So tomorrow (Christmas Eve) ~ cloudy and damp for most. Temperatures 8-12C Very windy in some areas, especially Scotland. As it gets later in the day, there's a chance of snow over the hills in Scotland as well, especially overnight into Christmas Day as it's going to be a chilly night for those areas.

Christmas Day ~ Chilly for Scotland ~ snow for some areas, mostly over the hills, might be some at lower levels but still very windy. Rest of the country ~ damp, possible drizzle and mild ~ 11-13C

Boxing Day ~ Mostly dry/cloudy. Scotland ~ temperatures just below/few C above freezing. Rest of the country ~ 7-8C

Weather warnings for the next few days to add to the festive gloom cheer!

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas 🎄

hoochycrone ~ you ^might* get something of a sleety nature but actually, at the moment, from Friday evening/Saturday onwards, the GFS is showing the whole country as having more 'seasonal' temperatures so anything is possible (but it's also waaaaaay into the future when it comes to forecasting, so best get Christmas out of the way first!)

nannynick · 23/12/2023 09:06

Snow is falling, all around me...

It's just a little but it is snowing. North East Scotland coast, Aberdeenshire.

Notonthestairs · 23/12/2023 10:33

Thanks Gloria.
If anyone does get snow and feels like uploading a photo I'm here for it (weather by proxy).

nannynick · 23/12/2023 10:36

@Notonthestairs here is my current view from the kitchen window whilst making a rather late breakfast.

Lovely! Might not be at snowman levels but an excellent start.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 23/12/2023 11:20

I'd like to see one like this again.

GloriaSmud · 23/12/2023 11:32

Oh yes, photos for those who are snow-deprived would be great. I'm getting my 'snow fix' by looking at the the Rovaniemi (Lapland) webcams!

hoochycrone · 23/12/2023 11:52

Thanks Gloria 🥰
Yes, you're right, it is now showing sleet 🙄

RedToothBrush · 23/12/2023 11:59

My. How joyful and festive the forecast for Monday is here.

Can I have a refund please? It's not as wanted.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 23/12/2023 13:39

It's looking to be mild (well, mildish) and wet for us in North Yorkshire.

I'm going to send it back and ask for a refund.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 23/12/2023 14:05

I’m in the Rockies. Thanks to El Niño this winter has been very mild with not much snow on the lower slopes. Some ski resorts are struggling to open lower runs. It might have been cold enough overnight to have the snow cannons going but the warm daytime temps undo all the hard work.

After a snow-less spell, we finally had two inches of snow overnight.

If we are taking bets for where we are...I'm placing a fiver it will be wet (drizzle) and miserable and grey on Christmas Day in Derbyshire. I mean, it's been this way for most of the past 3 months so can't see it suddenly changing unless Ireland wants to throw us another storm.

< slaps a five pound note on the table >

I think I won my fiver. Started off with sunshine then it rapidly declined into drizzle by noon.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas 🍾

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2023 18:27

A slightly belated Merry Christmas to everyone! Although it was officially a white Christmas, the mild and wets had it for most!
