Are we going to have a debate about how to pronounce 'Debi'?

anybloodyname · 12/11/2023 11:33

Thank you !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/11/2023 11:34

Be careful with the Met Éireann link in that if you click on it tomorrow it will give any warnings for Tuesday. Funny way to do links that might be shared on social media.

Thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten that's crept up quietly. N Wales is going to be hammered too. Even the BBC is giving wind speeds over 60 mph. Which they never do here normally.

TokyoSushi · 12/11/2023 12:29

Thanks OYBBK, I'm going to go with Debbie!

SerpentEndBench · 12/11/2023 12:45

Thank OYBBK .

It did sneak up a bit for me too. Admittedly my attention is elsewhere at the moment.

It seems that this autumn is trying to share the wind around quite fairly. This isn't a Ciaran though thankfully.

I just told DS to make sure that he's in by midnight because we have an orange wind warning in Dublin, and a red one out west which is quite rare. Honestly idiotic teens think that they're indestructible. He said he's not worried and a few branches won't bother him. We're in a suburb with a lot of old and massive trees and anytime it's windy there are always a load of massive branches lying around afterwards and sometimes a few trees down. He knows this. Hmm

The air is completely still at the moment, the calm before the storm.

For anyone who watched Yonderland, I pronounce it like that 😆

BiddyPop · 12/11/2023 18:39

Apparently DDog wouldn't go beyond the green in front of the house this morning with the rain but it was a lovely afternoon in south Dublin.

All schools in orange or red areas not opening until 10am and everyone who can do is encouraged to WFH.

swapcicles · 12/11/2023 18:49

On my xc weather app it's looking even windier on Thursday (west mids area) will see if it comes to anything as it often seems to show the worst then calm down nearer the time.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/11/2023 19:09

Waiting to hear from DD's school about their opening time. Some of the local schools have already decided to delay until 11am. I assume that it's just to try and reduce the rush hour traffic and give local authorities time to clear any roads that are blocked.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/11/2023 19:33

I'm keeping a bit of an eye on Thursday, but let's do one storm at a time. Wink

There could be some pretty nasty gusts, so please do heed the warnings from both Met Eireann and the Met Office. There could also be some thunderstorms overnight into the morning, so don't be too suprised if you get one, with hail, lightning and strong squally winds.

It's probably "Debi" but with a little heart on top of the 'i'.

Baconisdelicious · 12/11/2023 20:06

The winds are showing as strong as Ciaran over the North West Coast, surely? They are certainly above the 'roof will need looking at' level for me!

Sorry, I was thinking of some extreme damage that occurred during Ciaran. You are quite right, this should be taken seriously and I apologise.

Same! We miss Yonderland

BiddyPop · 12/11/2023 20:25

It will be interesting to me to hear how DH gets on if there was a any damage or power outages etc - as I know where all the torches are and generally have the power banks charged - but I've taken the flask and cooler and 1 ring camping stove with me overseas (I have left him with a gas bbq, Kelly kettle and a not so good flask, and plenty of torches if he knows where to look! ).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/11/2023 20:50

Met Office matrix and text for Debi. It shows that there is potential for an amber warning, but not for a red warning in Northern Ireland and England.

Met Eireann however have a red warning for the Republic iof Ireland.

Storm Debi.

Place-marking. We've just gone to orange and schools will open later at 10am. Co. Cork.

OhmygodDont · 12/11/2023 21:06

We are currently away in north wales. Right on the coast just the other side of the sea “defence” so watching this closely as meant to be heading home in the morning via some very tight roads.
