Confused

So the Met Office have named tomorrows storm as Storm Antoni. It's our first named storm of the 22/23 season. The season ends at the end of August. So I think that makes it the latest UK named storm since we started naming them in the UK

IIRC it was warmer on Christmas Day than it is today. It's 11 degrees and torrential rain.

No rain here in our bit of Devon. We've visited a town (inland) and not particularly windy. So we've had a good morning of lunch and book shops which was much better than expected!

Sunny spells, bits of blue sky, warmish almost q typical summer day apart from the incredibly strong wind - keep watching a tree in the street bending and swaying thinking its going to go. SW Devon.

I think that in 2021 the winter solstice was warmer than the summer solstice?

Dry and sunny in East devon just now, pleasantly warm, but very blowy!

Some severe gusts this afternoon. Berry Head smashing its all time August record. The line to Penzance was closed for a time and Network Rail advise people to not travel today.

Main road through our town blocked with fallen tree and the willow opposite our house has some significant branches come off. I assume the damage would have been less in winter when the trees would have lost their leaves. Strange day - after a wet start almost summery if it wasn't for the wind. SW devon.

gogomoto · 05/08/2023 19:34

Think we escaped it(Bristol) beautiful sunny evening

gogomoto · 05/08/2023 19:35

17 degrees, not summer really but ok

squirelnutkin11 · 05/08/2023 19:36

More of a wet squib here, lots of rain bit blowy now calm and blue sky...south west

OrangeVelour · 05/08/2023 19:37

Lovely here in Devon (sea's a bit choppy!)

Still quite blowy but stayed sunny all day. Wind has clocked around from SW to more NW by this afternoon as was predicted. Lots of relatively high clouds scudding across the sky - but only cotton wool balls of fluff rather than proper coverage.

Gettingbysomehow · 05/08/2023 20:26

Glastonbury wasn't very exciting. Only a bit of rain and not much wind but cold enough to be wearing a jumper

tommika · 05/08/2023 20:46

We survived

But we abandoned one of us at the stall while the rest of us watched a band, The Trouble Notes.
We thought of him as we looked out the side of the main stage at the rain flying by

He did have a diving skeleton incident, but no major disasters

On Atlantic coast, clouds are starting to fill in to a shelf mostly but still high (there's some cotton wool fluff balls lower down moving faster) and still some blue sky gaps in it. And I can still see the (outline of through the dusk) of the Aran Islands so not raining yet.

OnionBhajis · 06/08/2023 09:05

We are still camping! Beautiful morning today.

Tent was very blowy yesterday afternoon but still standing. Site has lots of low hedging and we did park our car next to it (we weren't able to work out wind direction) .

We were inland from the coast which probably made a big difference but still in the wind warning!

The sea shanty festival was wet but went ahead and was successful. If it hadn't been on the town would have been pretty dead so I'm sure the venues were glad of it. Better weather would have brought bigger crowds.

Dds tent blew down at a festival but she is a fairly seasoned camper so sorted it and went back to sleep until the weather improved.
