Confused

So the Met Office have named tomorrows storm as Storm Antoni. It's our first named storm of the 22/23 season. The season ends at the end of August. So I think that makes it the latest UK named storm since we started naming them in the UK

Overnight report from west of Ireland. Rain had eased to more drizzly rather than big drops of rain, but wind picked up so it was driving. Wind had picked up by 10pm but 5am was when they seemed to peak - no wind speed gauge but I reckon strong gale or maybe higher.

Now it's bright and sunny, there is wind but just a normal blustery day here. Surfing is definitely looking likely in a couple of hours once the tide drops low enough to be off the rocks again so DD is happy.

It's 11c here in N Wales wind picking up rain which is going to increase for the next few hours. I'm staying in bed 😡😡😡

East devon: gusty winds early this morning, but very calm rain just now, very low but bright clouds (we've lost the tops of the hills).

Feel so sorry for all the folks with weddings and events today.
Can't believe it's August.

DS is working at extra shift at the local garden centre today as they have a big family event planned. I think I might get a phone call saying he’s been told to go home early.

The weather is appalling here and we are not even in a yellow zone.

SquirmOfEels · 05/08/2023 09:39

Steady rain in London

DS2 is in a caravan with his girlfriend in Cornwall - just messaged to see how they're getting on [nosey]

DS1's flight back from his hols landed about an hour ago - not heard if there's airport disruption expected later

Racingadmin · 05/08/2023 10:10

Just waiting for racing to be called off ( working at goodwood). It's raining sideways at the minute and properly cold

They will probably keep hospitality open as there's tens of thousands of pounds of food that will go to waste and people have paid up to £800 each for the day . Just means hundred of drunks with too much money complaining in very windy tents - joy Confused

11 degrees here in Rugby, 5.6 mm of rain today according to my garden gauge.

12° and throwing it down here in Tameside, Greater Manchester

Had condensation on the inside of the windows as well this morning. Can we safely say summer is over or?

Racingadmin · 05/08/2023 10:13

Dd is at Brighton Pride today - can't imagine that will be much fun

@OhYouBadBadKitten any thoughts on Dover ferry crossings Sunday morning? It’s outside the warning area for today, but then I don’t know if the Channel is covered by warnings normally… are we in for a rough ride?

Pretty blowy still Im afraid. Keep an eye on their webpage and twitter account. Sometimes it's worth following other ferry operators/Port of Dover in case your operator isn't keeping updates up to speed.

Next week should be nice.

justasking111 · 05/08/2023 10:36

There's rugby on this afternoon summer series. Thinking it calls for pots of tea and scones.

I'm local and was there on Thursday.

It's was certainly muddy!!! Luckily parked in village square and walked up!

The straw has helped a lot
It may not look it half an hour later but it’s done well

Ive made a few trips up and down hugging bundles of hay

It’s definitely wet today, and I’ve not ventured far out.
Gazebos still standing - including the old one we’re using for box storage

Heard some music coming out of the main tent a short while ago, so the intent to carry on is still there - and the electrics are still working

We await the wind

Despite it being the first named storm of the 22/23 season, do you think it’s actually an early 23/24 storm? It seems an unusually late storm, so perhaps it’s actually a very early one.

Jamtartforme · 05/08/2023 11:28

I live well within the impact zone yet our local weather forecast says nothing about a storm?

asecretslob · 05/08/2023 11:29

I m glad we left Devon early it was windy enough camping in the week !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/08/2023 11:30

Thats a good question TheIsaacs. Given we had a decent June, I'm mentally categorising it as an extra early autumn storm.

Which weather service are you using and how are you visualising what it says? Is it weather symbols on an app?

I'm in Plymouth and it's barely breezy here.
