Old thread:https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4767111-spring-weather-watch?page=6&reply=126854914

After the dramatic weather for some over the last few days, mostly covered in the Thunderstorm warning threads, I think it's time to switch to a new thread. After all, we are two weeks into meteorological summer.

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ... It...

We’ve had a few nice showers. The birdbath is full and the birds are happy. It’s sad the things that bring me joy - and happy birds is one of them.

UnDruidlyWords · 03/07/2023 17:31

Happy birds bringing you joy sounds very right and proper, Sunny. It brings me joy too.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2023 18:14

I don't think you beat the sound of birds singing and trees rustling.

I'd be happy to get to end of the month without very high temperatures.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/07/2023 17:44

Met office warning out for tonight in East Anglia. I've started a thread specifically about it. Generally a very wet night for many in the south and midlands, clearing away from the west eastwards.

It's pepped up more than I had anticipated and now the indoor plants I've put outside for a wash are learning how to swim. Oops.

I don’t think I’ll need to be watering the hanging baskets this evening.
hopefully it’ll make the grass a bit more green too.

The rain was hammering on the roof at Wimbledon this afternoon. Poor tennis players rained off on other courts

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2023 21:55

With the weekend approaching, so are more thunderstorms! This time on Saturday. Locally intense thunderstorms may well form in the Midlands around lunchtime and later north east as a cold front moves eastwards.

Met office warnings are out. Two risks, first in the morning, perhaps early in the south, moving into the Midlands. Then perhaps another round later in the afternoon into the evening, across the Midlands and moving up into the NE.

Thanks for the warning. Looks like we will be driving through that band so start and end destinations are dry. Can't complain at that Grin

GloriaSmud · 08/07/2023 06:55

Netweather have issued a 'Thunderstorm Watch' which sort of matches the metoffice warning area.

We're driving from Leicester to North Wales today so I'm expecting an interesting journey!

My fingers are crossed for friends in the New York area. They have a huge pond fed by culvert which they had repaired last week. The rainfall and thunderstorms are biblical today

A huge amount of damage around the NY area.

How was everyone's weekend weather wise ? Plenty of storms around for some.

Sunnysunbun · 10/07/2023 10:56

The NY storms look awful.

Notonthestairs · 10/07/2023 11:14

The flooding in the NY area looks dreadful.

We had a lot of rain and thunderstorms 11-4 on Saturday. There was a break for about 20 minutes at lunch when I dragged my dog out but that was it. Remained humid throughout and dried so quickly I cut the grass at 6! (Herts)

Delatron · 10/07/2023 17:11

Forecast not looking very summery.. Though I know the gardens need rain. apart from Friday it’s been a few weeks of cooler temperatures now with no warming in sight looking at the forecasts right up to the 19th July. Very different to June. Maybe that was our summer!

I know lots of people will be happy with that and I definitely don’t want 30 degrees plus but mid 20s at this time of year would be nice.

CallMeDiaz · 10/07/2023 22:08

We have got the most wonderful downpour in Fife. It sounds so beautiful I'm just lying in the dark with all the windows open listening to it.

You clearly don't live in the SE!

Oh I do! But then 20-21 and windy and grey is not summery to me. I like to sit out in the garden in the evening. That’s not possible at the moment.

We’re having a BBQ on Saturday and weather again looks disappointing. Not warm at all.

But if you like these cooler temperatures then I can understand enjoying the weather at the moment.

gingercat02 · 12/07/2023 07:31

@Delatron I agree warm, gray and breezy in the NE too. We never hit the excesses of London and the surroundings but I would be hoping for mid twenties here in July.

hellswelshy · 12/07/2023 08:40

SE Wales here, and it's been just...patchy at best! Lots of sharp showers, menacing clouds appearing suddenly and very gusty winds. Not very summery really, in my eyes anyway. Anybody know if there's any change on its way? I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I'm at a festival last week of July 😐

Delatron · 12/07/2023 09:02

Yes I didn’t mind a week or so of cooler temperatures but would quite like summer to come back now. I have a festival next week and it looks to continue with showers/ a bit of sun and low 20s if that. It’s the wind that I find annoyingly- it’s quite unpleasant.

It’s been like this since the beginning of July and July is normally the most reliable month. I never hold out much hope for August - it seems to get quite autumnal at times. Fingers crossed for a bit of warmth.

We are going to a garden party on Cirencester on Saturday. Hope the rain holds off. We are bringing a gazebo, I don't think it is waterproof though. 😬

EmmaEmerald · 12/07/2023 15:11

I am finding it weirdly stuffy considering it's not hot. Even mum's house seems to have trapped hot air. She is feeling it too but she's always freezing so she doesn't mind!

Delatron · 12/07/2023 18:33

Some pretty awful high temperatures over Southern Europe though and the winds are blowing that heat towards Scandinavia rather than us ( not that I want 43 degrees! 25 would be nice). Apparently it’s 30 degrees in Lapland..We are stuck under an area of low pressure so all the heat is avoiding us.

My son is in Northern Norway at the moment. Says it quite warm for hiking so had to cool of with a dip in a glacial lake. But not as warm as the 40°C we had when we were meant to be hiking in Sardinia last month.
