Grin

Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

The GFS tends to be rather more bullish about snow risk than the met office models, but here are a few snap shots - white stripes = risk of snow.

At low levels it would be probably a case of any snow that happens then turns to rain, but snow over higher ground could be more persistent.

Lots of uncertainty at the moment! Its one of those situations where the probability is low, but the anticipation is high.

If you want a play yourself, remembering this is one model at one model run time...

YAY! I love this thread. :-)

BBC saying heavy snow on Friday at 8.00 am.. great timing for morning school run / commute but they are not that reliable!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2020 08:36

The BBC app is not very reliable Grin

I'm so excited @OhYouBadBadKitten

I fully appreciate that I might see 1 flake, if I'm very lucky, but it's the first real 'chance' of the year!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2020 12:48

It is exciting!

I love snow. I'm SE England so not holding my breath!

WhispersOfWickedness · 01/12/2020 16:01

@FredtheFerret Exciting, I'm in the Wolds 😁❄️

Which is the most reliable weather app? I use Met office at the moment...

BadgeronaMoped · 01/12/2020 16:08

I love a good snow watch thread Grin last winter was a little disappointing, so I have my fingers crossed for a good dusting this time round.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2020 17:04

I think the met office app is the most accurate. I believe that there is some human input into the meteograms for large locations now, which means that it is no longer just raw computer output.

QueenOfLabradors · 01/12/2020 17:11

Placemarking... you and Gloria are usually a lot more accurate than most other weather services! I find Met Office more reliable than any of the others.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2020 17:14

lovely to have so many fellow snow watchers Grin

Met office have snow and ice warnings out for Weds/Thurs in parts of Scotland now.

I missed you all! Been totally side tracked by the pandemic and neglected the weather. Placemarking.

AethelsWhiteGoose · 01/12/2020 20:56

Placemarking, although I’m in the far south so it’s more likely to be sleet watch Smile

We're way south of there but it was really icy this morning.

Cherryup · 01/12/2020 21:45

I love the snow watch threads, I actually hate snow to the point of phobic so become a bit obsessed but it helps me feel more in control. So thank you 🙏

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/12/2020 09:53

Away from Scotland, the Met Office seem to be mostly predicting rain at present, though the Peak District looks to see some snow.

The ECM model predicts some quite disruptive snow for many on Friday, right into the south east and across the country up into the NW! So quite a big disparity.

Essentially, people will either get rather wet, rather a lot of snow, or, quite likely, a really messy mix.

I live in Cornwall and watch the snow falling everywhere else with a bit of green eyed monster thrown in SadEnvy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/12/2020 12:45

This winter, you can celebrate living in Cornwall though :)

We're in a very high point in the Scottish Central Belt and are expecting snow ALL NIGHT LONG!

Justmuddlingalong · 02/12/2020 15:23

Our single sleety snow symbol has changed to rain! I'm not a happy bunny. Unfortunately a wee snowfall was all I had to look forward to this weekend.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/12/2020 16:01

It may change back and forth a few times yet!

My ds has a new weather obsession, and was telling me about the snow on the BBC app.

I very wisely and sagely told him all the things I've learned on this thread. Need to check with OYBBK, I said.

We're SE, but I shall remain hopeful!
