Grin

Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

Teeny tiny bit of snow (on the cars and grass) on the NE coast sky looks heavy so 🤞 ❄☃️

MrsWombat · 07/02/2021 11:16

It's now starting to settle a little bit in my part of SE London, but it's not very heavy. It looks like someone has sprinkled icing sugar everywhere. Enough to get the 6 year old outside tasting the snow. Grin

Local Wunderground weather station says the dew point is -2.2 degrees, the temperature is 0 degrees, and it feels like -4 degrees.

EventuallyDeleted · 07/02/2021 11:35

Tiny flakes on the Hants/Surrey border

Cineraria · 07/02/2021 12:01

We have snow on the outskirts of South London settling everywhere except paved areas. It's been snowing since we got up but only settled in the last half hour as snow fell faster. DSes asked to watch DS1's nativity play video as snow definitely means Christmas is here! I thought we had persuaded them otherwise when it snowed in January but apparently not.

myoho · 07/02/2021 12:06

North Kent here and it's heavy, blizzardy (Is that even a word?) and settling

Lonelycrab · 07/02/2021 12:15

Northern Hampshire and it’s just getting going. Nothing settling yet.

ShowOfHands · 07/02/2021 12:17

I have three weather apps. All three showed snow all night and it's apparently, been snowing all day. Not. A. Flake.

Same a couple of weeks ago promises of snow, local news confirmed snow was on its way. No snow.

Will it ever snow here again? I really love it and it never happens.

MoonBaby1 · 07/02/2021 12:27

Sorry to boast but we’ve got a ridiculous amount of snow in Suffolk today. It’s already covered our snowman!

ShowOfHands · 07/02/2021 12:30

I'm in Norfolk. Nothing. Not a single flake. But according to the apps, it's definitely snowing here.

OublietteBravo · 07/02/2021 12:52

A few flakes occasionally, but mostly just grey and windy. At least it’s not raining today though.

beenrumbled · 07/02/2021 13:02

A few flakes blowing in the wind here in Manchester. Cold and a bit windy.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 07/02/2021 13:24

I'm SO glad I brought my snow boots in from the car yesterday 🙄🙄drizzle drizzle drizzle.

Central south east/top of Hampshire.

EventuallyDeleted · 07/02/2021 13:36

Top of Hampshire here too, it's stopped again (thankfully). Very, very cold though.

BobGalaxy · 07/02/2021 14:46

We finally got blizzards in south Essex! From around 10.30. It's been back to drizzly fine snow for at least the last hour though.

Pennina · 07/02/2021 15:08

None here, east herts now either. I can't help but feel forecast got it a bit wrong. All those weather warnings! But agree it's very cold

Hadiever · 07/02/2021 15:40

Freezing cold here and windy here in Cambridgeshire but no snow ☹️

AlfieandAnnieRose · 07/02/2021 16:03

No snow here in Suffolk near Bury St Edmunds🤔

Furries · 07/02/2021 16:30

North east Essex. Woke up to this! It’s been snowing all day, but it’s very fine so doesn’t seem to getting deeper. It’s very windy too, so snow is almost horizontal, plus fallen snow is being blown into mini drifts.

I’ve had enough now, please make it go away 😂

Furries · 07/02/2021 16:31

Forgot the photos - not great, as taken through wet windows.

Although it's been snowing all day here (South Norfolk), it's only settled on the verges & fields, the roads are clear. And we are in an Amber warning until tomorrow. I guess if the roads had been dry(er) we would have had a fair bit of snow by now!

GloriaSmud · 07/02/2021 16:39

I think quite a few places in the east that were expecting snow overnight/today, could well see snow tonight/tomorrow. Those showers/heavier bursts of snow will find their way towards the middle of the country as well, as can be seen here on Netweather's website.

ShowOfHands · 07/02/2021 16:55

I'm in mid Norfolk ish and we've had some very light flurries in the last hour but nothing that has settled. Some of those videos in the link suggest we might still get something later. I really hope so. I adore snow and I don't even know why, but I'd pinned a lot of hope on it this time round. Still, I've managed to get out and garden all day today so silver linings and all that.

GloriaSmud · 07/02/2021 17:26

Looking at the GFS, this cold looks set to stay for a long while. The metoffice seem to think so too in their long range forecast....

Friday 12th-Sunday, 21st Feb
A cold start to the period with strong easterly winds. Heavy and frequent snow showers are likely across northern and eastern areas, especially over northeastern England and eastern Scotland. Friday will see cloud across the south and west with snow possible in places; drier and brighter elsewhere. The southwest will possibly see milder conditions, making rain more likely here. As the period progresses, it will be remaining cold or very cold with brisk winds but potentially turning milder over southwestern then western areas for a time. Outbreaks of rain and showers are likely across western and northern areas, whilst mostly dry and bright in the east and southeast. Further snow and attendant wintry hazards continuing to affect northern areas but possibly becoming increasingly settled by the end of the period.

Sunday 21st Feb-Sunday 7th March
After a potential spell of milder and wetter conditions for most likely western parts, probably a return to colder and drier conditions overall. Whilst overall conditions are likely to remain cold, there is a continued chance for unsettled, milder interludes arriving from the west or southwest. These may produce a risk of disruptive snowfall during transition periods. Increased confidence at the end of February and the start of March for cold and mostly dry conditions. However, there remains a greater than normal threat of disruptive winter hazards for all areas through this period, with snowfall possible for all areas, but most likely in the east.

cheninblanc · 07/02/2021 17:30

I'm in kent, we've had snow but nothings settled. Near work I'm told its settled so I have that awful dilemma if to make the journey in tomorrow. I can wfh but like to do that mid week and be onsite Mondays. I don't know whether to believe this forecast now or not?

LIZS · 07/02/2021 17:32

Seems to have stopped here now. However it settled on wet roads so could be slippery overnight.
