Grin

Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

Today the primary risk I think is for Norfolk and Suffolk where they could see prolonged snow fall. Elsewhere in East Anglia it is more marginal, so hard to call where the snow/rain boundary exists. There are still met office warnings out across the SE and parts of northern England.

The snow risk continues for Scotland and high ground in northern England through the week. As we come into Wednesday and Thursday there is a risk over parts of Wales and scattered 'elsewheres'. Into next weekend the weather looks colder and the current outlook is for a greater widespread risk of snow.

Lots of flooding potential this week though and paths will remain swampy.

Cambridgeshire here. I was hoping to wake up to snow today but it is just wet and greySad Are we going to get any snow today ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2021 11:51

I don't think so. You were really unlucky - a warm nose of air edged into the region and melted the snow as it fell through the atmosphere. Snow forecasts in this country are such a bugger.

Its always worth looking at the risk matrix on the met office warnings. Amber warnings can be given for high risk outcome/medium probability scenarios.

You were right. Not a hint of the white stuff. The sun even came out for a while.

Like spring here today (NW). My DH bought the kids a sledge last week. That’s clearly the kiss of death for snow now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2021 20:06

I'll stick with this thread to share rain warnings including amber warnings.

Mid week looks grim, very heavy rain adding to snow melt to create probably flooding in parts of the Pennines and Peak district. Add in gale force winds too. I'd expect to see wind warnings for this system and I think also snow warnings too as the system clears out.

I'm afraid the weather is looking rather problematic, especially in northern and central areas into the following week too.

French re fashion it into an ark.

I think I will check the drains and put everything up on bricks in the laundry tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2021 20:16

It's sensible to be prepared if you are prone to flooding and are in that region.

The laundry is slightly lower than the rest of the house - so as the water sheets down off the hill & the drains are overwhelmed, I just open the back laundry door and the front laundry door & let it flow through. That saves the rest of the house from flooding.

Thankfully we only flood with fresh water runoff and not sewerage. Also I had all the electrics inverted after the first time so they are waist height at their lowest.

I may have to!
OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2021 20:48

I guess you could squirt fairy liquid at the threshold and let the suds clean the floor and the rest of the hill.

Now that is an idea....

MoodyMarshall · 20/01/2021 13:14

Both of my forecasts are showing heavy snow showers on Saturday (Oxfordshire). Are the models behind this...?

nannynick · 20/01/2021 20:13

Metcheck GFS is showing Sunday 06:00 as having snow in west of England, tracking easterly.

So certainly something to keep an eye on @MoodyMarshall

InMySpareTime · 20/01/2021 20:46

Snowing in Trafford, which is surprisingly settling despite the earlier flooding!

drinkingwineoutofamug · 20/01/2021 20:52

Snowing in Cheshire east, dispite the heavy rain it's sticking atm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/01/2021 20:53

It's hard to ok let which weather thread to post on at the moment with fairly limited time on mn.

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2021-01-21 warnings.
The heavy rain has turned to snow perhaps faster than expected in the Manchester area.

The models do support the potential for snow in the south Midlands into northern England on Saturday, but goodness knows where the boundary will be.

beenrumbled · 20/01/2021 21:03

Snowing and sticking in my corner of Manchester despite how sodden the ground is.

TokyoSushi · 20/01/2021 21:10

Fab snow in Warrington which is sticking despite torrential rain all day!

soggyandwet · 20/01/2021 21:14

My username says it all! One end of my road is flooded because there is a brook behind our house which we are luckily uphill from though we have to walk the long way round to get to our house. Somebody tried to drive up our road earlier and got stuck which happens every winter because the big (permanent!) sign saying "FLOOD" is apparently not clear enough. Neither is the fact that you can see the road is flooded from the end.

ShrikeAttack · 20/01/2021 21:16

Yes, heavy snow in the Peaks, Cheshire side.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 20/01/2021 21:26

👋🏻 strike

MoodyMarshall · 20/01/2021 21:48

@nannynick thanks 👍👍

ShrikeAttack · 20/01/2021 22:21

Hi Drinking! It's settling quite a lot here, hope we don't have too much, we had water ingress into the gas supply today after all the heavy rain, the gas company came out to fix it but it's still not right, so the gas is off until they come back tomorrow. Thankfully we've got plenty of wood!

gingercat02 · 21/01/2021 08:21

It was snowing heavily when we went to bed but like everywhere it was really wet underfoot. We have a covering on the grass and a couple of cm on the cars. DS 11 is dressed and outside already 😂 NE coast near Newcastle
