i'm just plonking this here, will be back later to fill in the details, but the Met Office have just named Storm Dennis for Sunday the 15th Feb.

In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

Looking at this from netweather there’s a little lull at the moment until the next lot hits the SW & moves through...

Very windy in Northamptonshire

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2020 20:08

I say this with due consideration as I don't like to be irresponsible and cause worry where there does not need to be any. I'd also like to remind people I'm an amateur forecaster and that you should defer to official sources of information. However, I can't stress enough how serious things are looking for parts of the SW England, parts of Wales and previously flooded areas from last weekends storm in terms of rainfall overnight and into tomorrow. Please keep a close eye on the Environment Agency , consider whether you are at risk of flooding and what you need to do if you are.

I think that red warnings could be appropriate for areas such as Devon.

DP helps out on Sundays with junior rugby. Usually no-one sorts out a decision about cancelling for weather reasons until a morning pitch inspection. For the first time ever, the cancellation was sent out by text early THIS morning. North East Wiltshire.

woodencoffeetable · 15/02/2020 20:32

our lights are flickering - hope electricity doesn't go down.
power banks are charged, hot water bottles in beds, camping lanterns in main rooms...
keep safe everyone!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2020 20:34

I also need to highlight two potentially very powerful squall lines crossing England tonight and tomorrow morning. These could, in places, be very damaging indeed.

Again, I say this aware of the responsibility of causing anxiety. I hesitate in posting, but feel that it is better to make people aware.

@OhYouBadBadKitten You're not responsible for people's feelings, Flowers

Is there any chance Gatwick flights to Copenhagen will be delayed tomorrow? No one's answering the phone there.

glenhaggis · 15/02/2020 20:58

If you do twitter and are anywhere around Hereford then @davethroupEA is well worth following.

SweetPeaPods · 15/02/2020 21:00

woodencoffeetable Didn’t think of power banks. Just put my phone on charge now and dig candles and matches out just in case!

SweetPeaPods · 15/02/2020 21:02

OhYouBadBadKitten Another one here who would rather know than not. Very very windy here. Sounds like my roof might fall off!

glenhaggis · 15/02/2020 21:03

Powerbank charged here too, thanks for the reminder. Torch at hand too.

Herefordshire flood warnings from @davethroupea.

It depends on what time the flight is and knock on effects I should think. Once the squalls are through (by midday tomorrow) it should be back to 40mph gusts.

As we saw on last weeks squall lines, the strength of wind and rain impact varies along the length. This pair of squalls look to be more powerful in places than last weekends. Perhaps significantly so.

mummytooneprincess · 15/02/2020 21:16

Where are the squall lines and where do you expect them to hit? We lost a panel of our fence in a squall last weekend!

daisychain01 · 15/02/2020 21:22

I'm dreading what my garden is going to look like tomorrow. At nightfall, the long border down the length of our garden was just one long river, completely submerged in waters as was the lawn and drive.

I keep reminding myself that nature is good at healing itself after extreme weather. I remember after The Beast From the East, when we had a month of permanently sub-zero conditions and within a week of the thaw, the garden sprang back to life and the crocuses were in full bloom. So hopefully the same this time round.

I hope everyone is safe and warm indoors and not too anxious. It is a worrying time.

Thank you for the thread, @OhYouBadBadKitten it is comforting to talk about this extreme weather.

Supersimkin2 · 15/02/2020 21:27

Lunchtime flights, so should be ok I'm guessing. Thanks a million Halo

mogloveseggs · 15/02/2020 21:31

Well it's looking like dds ferry will be delayed by quite a bit! Earlier ones are showing as delayed by a few hours

mogloveseggs · 15/02/2020 21:31

I'm not complaining-much rather she crossed in calmer conditions

Orangeblossom78 · 15/02/2020 21:45

I'm queue for ferry to France it is 45 mins delayed leaving at 11pm. Planning to try and sleep through it

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2020 21:46

Squall lines will develop in the early hours, risk areas from Yorkshire southwards, through the south by lunchtime. As ever, some will see things much more severely than others. Perhaps a quick glance around the house and garden before bedtime to check windows are closed and garden objects are away would be sensible.

Heavy rain here. Do hope dh will be okay getting home from work (should be leaving soon hopefully), and it's not as bad tomorrow.

AmelieTaylor · 15/02/2020 22:37

@mogloveseggs

I hope they have a nice calm passage.
I hope you get some 😴

I’m getting to be a proper worry wort in my old age 🙄. My god daughter is going by train tomorrow and I’m worried about her. She’s 30 FFS I’m working hard on 🤐 but she’s also travelling long distance next month - currently via HK. She’s turning me grey. 😲

colouringinpro · 15/02/2020 23:51

vvv windy in Somerset tonight! I am in an attic room and it's seriously noisy! and a little alarming! earplugs in order I think!

wonkylegs · 15/02/2020 23:58

Not looking forward to waking up tomorrow morning
We narrowly avoided flooding due to diverted surface water last weekend (diverted by the new housing development next door), we only avoided it by bailing and brushing the new river of runoff into garden and drains but still had quite a depth
We complained and they adjusted their site works but by early evening the water was already up to the garage doorstep tonight and the worst is still due
😡we've moved as much as we can and have sandbagged to try to protect as much as we can
🤞it's not going to be too bad but I'm not holding out much hope

SoleBizzz · 16/02/2020 00:37

Wind is howling here in Brum. My anxiety level is higher and I feel moody as fuck.
