i'm just plonking this here, will be back later to fill in the details, but the Met Office have just named Storm Dennis for Sunday the 15th Feb.

In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

So windy here in SE London at 21mph
I can’t imagine 75mph (Scotland)

chocolatviennois · 16/02/2020 07:04

Woken by wind at 4am in Hampshire

WreckTangled · 16/02/2020 07:06

Neome if you look on the environment agency websites it tells you when they expect the flooding to subside in each section. I'm near ish to you so can't comment on getting to Cornwall. Google maps is usually pretty up to date with road closures etc though.

perhapstomorrow · 16/02/2020 07:24

For those in South Wales, Met office have issued a RED warning for rain.

Dhalandchips · 16/02/2020 07:24

The window -battering wind woke me up about an hour ago. Just outside Reading. Can't hear much now but I'm not getting out of bed to look Smile

Spacerader · 16/02/2020 08:07

I'm in the south wales valleys, the floody is crazy and the wind is still bad, no sign of the rain stopping. And as pp said the valleys has just been given a red warning

JacquesHammer · 16/02/2020 08:12

Two river catchments gone again over night. Flooding imminent.

DartmoorDoughnut · 16/02/2020 08:13

I’m meant to be travelling to just outside of Cardiff today from Devon, not leaving until after lunch but wondering if I should leave it until tomorrow. Only going to take the DCs to see my parents so not time critical.

GloriaSmud · 16/02/2020 08:54

DartmoorDoughnut - as the metoffice have issued a Red Warning for heavy rain for the nearby area and with Cardiff being under an Amber warning for today as well, I would delay your journey. Keep an eye on travel information before possibly starting out tomorrow though, as there could be issues with flooding tomorrow/for several days.

Spacerader · 16/02/2020 08:55

@DartmoorDoughnut the red warnings just by pass cardiff, start a little higher up from caerphilly onwards.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 09:00

Good morning all, I'm not surprised that they've issued a red warning, I am a little surprised that there isn't one for the SW.

Rain will clear Wales by 12/1ish and the SE by around 4/5ish. Heavy showers following on behind.

I would not travel to the red area until tomorrow, even though the rain will have eased, the roads will be awful and the water in the hills will still be flowing.

You poor people in the flooding areas. I hope you are doing ok this morning,

No wind here in S Devon this morning. Still raining but not torrential. Has it passed or is it just a lull?

WTFdidwedo · 16/02/2020 09:11

I'm in the red warning now, river has burst in several places nearby with a few more close to going also. I found it baffling that the river wasn't placed under a watch or warning despite it being dangerously high every time there's about half as much rain as we've had! Even last night at about 2am when the levels were about 0.5m off bursting, NRW said there was no risk. Then at 5am they were calling residents close by to turn off gas and electric and move everything to higher ground.

I work in a restaurant and we were absolutely packed to the rafters with customers last night despite the roads around being dangerous so none of us could leave until gone midnight. I felt like asking if anyone had been following the weather!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 09:16

Thankfully the squall line wasn't as windy as I'd feared could be the case.

From the Met Office "At Cray Reservoir, Powys, South Wales, 132.8mm of rain has been recorded between 0700hrs on Saturday 14th and 0800hrs on Sunday 15th. "

Given there was a few more hours of rain to come after that was written, totals will be well in excess of 140mm there.

It's bizarre WTF, why couldn't they see what was obvious?

Tenbury Wells and Bewdley (Teme/Severn) have jumped from Flood Alert to Severe Flood warning overnight. Think they missed that one coming! Severn predicted to peak very high on Monday in Shrewsbury too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 09:20

Isla you've got more to come rainwise over the next few hours.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 09:21

How did they miss that one coming? I'm utterly mystified!

Yddraigoldragon · 16/02/2020 09:34

Lots of flooded areas in Cardiff already last night, under bridges and underpasses etc. Given that the Taff is flooding the valleys and then heads down into Cardiff I would avoid if you can. I am just north of there and some of the fb posts this morning are heartbreaking.

SweetPeaPods · 16/02/2020 09:39

My little village in the East Midlands is all flooded.

Frouby · 16/02/2020 09:45

Well I was going to IKEA this morning, the one at Sheffield just near the Meadowhall shopping centre that is prone to flooding and apparently it's all under a red flood warning so don't think I will bother. Traffic is awful round there on a weekend anyway, not worth getting stuck.

WreckTangled · 16/02/2020 10:03

This is our main router out of the village. There's three other ways to get out so we aren't stranded but I'm staying in all day anyway. So sorry to those who have flooding in their houses etc Sad

So sorry everyone Sad we are actually ok so far in our bit of the NW and the rain seems to have passed on, hopefully the runs off for the next few days won't be significant.
