First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

@daisychain01 thank you.

FAQs · 09/02/2020 10:56

Just lost my fence in Lincolnshire, so have about 5 neighbours and a tree has gone over.

IndecentFeminist · 09/02/2020 10:56

Pretty blowy here on the island. 71mph recorded on one side. Not that bad though, sure we have had worse recently.

windymillersmill · 09/02/2020 10:58

Just seen that the M5 southbound is closed and is slow near junction 7 and 8.

Fallsballs · 09/02/2020 10:58

@Froq I’d love to see those flying guinea pigs of yours, lovely image !

ClaraLane · 09/02/2020 10:58

@TeddyIsaHe Norwich here too and it’s stupidly windy. DD has got a swimming lesson today but not sure I can’t be bothered to venture out in it!

RunningNinja79 · 09/02/2020 11:00

I knew today was going to be a day inside, but I thought it would be the wind keeping me in, instead its the rain. The road outside my house is more like a river, but passable with care.

I'm in North Yorkshire very close to Co. Durham. Apparently there is one lane closed on the A1 northbound between Catterick and Scotch Corner due to flooding according to facebook.

Parky04 · 09/02/2020 11:01

Not usually a worrying type but am a bit anxious as DS20 is driving from Cambridge. He has only just passed his test.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 11:03

I think if you live in coastal areas you will have seen storms at this level recently. The huge difference for this storm is the widespread severe gales inland. That hasn't been seen for many years.

A couple of power cut maps for you.

Oh wow, just gone mad here in Cheshire, blowing a gale, sheets of rain, you could use the term 'flash flooding' unbelievable change since I got in the shower 10 mins ago!

BiddyPop · 09/02/2020 11:04

Ok, scratch my last Dublin report - back to low grey clouds and torrential rain again....we were just about to get out for a short walk for fresh air!

windymillersmill · 09/02/2020 11:05

Our internet is going on and off now. And I've got to go to the shop to get stuff that I don't need to cook if the power goes off. This sounds stupid but I have no idea what to even buy right now - I've been up all night, don't feel well and I've got nothing in.

IndecentFeminist · 09/02/2020 11:05

109 near the needles 😬

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 11:07

:( windymiller. Do you have any pasta in? Pasta and pesto or tuna is easy.

My default when I need to use just boiling water is something like couscous.

Someone just posted on my local FB page

Fence panels - free.
Buyers collect, all around town

😬

beenrumbled · 09/02/2020 11:09

Torrential rain now in Manchester.

NotYourTypicalNerd · 09/02/2020 11:09

What is your forecast for Herts, OYBBK? It is quite windy now as it happens, but want to know if this is the worst of it or if it will increase as met office is saying this is the peak for us?

We had a good cleanup of the garden yesterday, so thats all covered. We have had to wedge a massive log triangle style on the back fence as it was swaying, but apart from that all ok.

Have just plugged in the power packs in readiness of power cut but DH thinks I might be being over the top. I did say we should flip the trampoline over but it is a hassle says DH - so if this was the peak then we are ok as it is quite secure and in a secluded corner.

woodencoffeetable · 09/02/2020 11:10

windymiller bread and sandwich fillers, cheese, cold meats.

Aswellaslocal · 09/02/2020 11:10

Gone mad here suddenly too! Scary how quickly it can change

woodencoffeetable · 09/02/2020 11:10

and tubs of chocolate pudding

TheBitterBoy · 09/02/2020 11:11

DH decided we needed to travel early, just made it back from Highcliffe to Reading. Lots of rain, lots of general tree debris around and the wind was steadily getting worse as we travelled. Luckily the roads were very quiet which made for a decent trip. Got back to find the garden chairs all over the place but everything else where it should be so far.

Most people on the roads were driving more slowly than normal and hardly anyone in the fast lane of the motorway. I did see someone towing a caravan in the M3 Shock

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 11:14

Nerd not yet. you've got a while to go and when the squalls go through it will get windier.

South Coast and a bit blowy but nothing out of the ordinary for Spring or autumn. Salt spray in blowing inland a couple of miles and the seafront is rough. Where I am is sheltered from the South but exposed from the West

ScouseQueen · 09/02/2020 11:16

It had all eased off in Liverpool and I was feeling underwhelmed but in the last half hour the said and wind have really intensified. And then as I was typing this - a leak was discovered! So now have buckets in place upstairs Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 11:20

www.lightningmaps.org/ some lightning being picked up,
I think it's missing some of the sferics though as I've seen a report of a strike in Manchester.
