I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

Exceptionally clear where I am too, teta - and not too far from you. In fact it's been so clear for a number of weeks now that I asked OYBBK about it upthread a bit. Low humidity seems to be the explanation.

GloriaSmud · 28/01/2019 09:07

I think Tuesday evening/nights snow is looking bit marginal depending on where you are. Around the edges of the metoffice warning area, you'll probably get a light (1-2cm) covering. In the middle of it, a few cms more. Higher ground, within warning area ~ up to 10cms.

Thursday ~ one to watch at the moment.

Current weather warnings.

It is absolutely beautiful sunshine here....which is always a bit foreboding in my book, if its February 😂 Schools have sent a snow warning text out

GloriaSmud · 28/01/2019 10:03

Your schools have got in there early, whywontthey!
Weather warnings have been updated.

Today's thoughts from Netweather.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2019 10:21

The warning maps have become quite confusing to operate. Especially when all the warnings are labelled snow and ice.

snow forecasts have calmed down for London but now the Evening Standard has a screaming headline about whiteout.

ListenLinda · 28/01/2019 11:41

West Yorkshire looks like will be getting a few cm. Am I right in thinking it starts from dinner time tomorrow?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2019 11:53

some time in the afternoon for you Linda, when it transitions from rain to snow is pretty much a guess.

I'm at the north hampshire/surrey boarder and it looks as if we will have heavy snow rain before snow.

Does this mean it won't settle? 😫

TokyoSushi · 28/01/2019 12:04

Winter is coming! (Perhaps even to Cheshire!)

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 28/01/2019 12:21

Makes a change Gloria normally they decide an hour after the start of school to send the kids home 😂😂😂

GloriaSmud · 28/01/2019 12:47

coughing bean ~ something wintry might settle but you could be in one of those marginal areas that either it all stays as rain and you don't get any snow or it starts as rain and you get a covering later on as temperatures drop.

whywontthey ~ wow that is a change! I'll be looking at my phone late tomorrow pm or early Wednesday morning for a closure text from DDs school.

lubeybooby · 28/01/2019 16:30

oh this is exciting, hoping for the 'higher ground' 10cm due to being at 350m

it had better happen!

any inking whether it might be snowman snow, or the stupid 'dry' kind?

Everybodylovesablankie · 28/01/2019 16:57

BBC app saying heavy snow for my area in Leicestershire from Thursday Until Saturday 👀☃️🙌🏻 Keeping everything crossed, I love snow and so does my 7 year old !

coughingbean · 28/01/2019 17:03

Thanks Gloria, hope it settles!

So I think we are still due snow in Dartford and south London, Twitter suggests so but apps say different. All very confusing!

14allall41 · 28/01/2019 17:23

I'll believe it when I see it. Last year we were slap bang in the middle of an amber zone - school shut due to the forecast- and we got nothing!!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/01/2019 17:47

Worcestershire here - any idea what to expect? Work is 12 miles away and I can't drive in snow, so dread this time of year Sad

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/01/2019 18:07

The only I'm in Worcestershire and on the met office it looks like there might be some from 5 pm tomorrow and then again on Thursday.

GloriaSmud · 28/01/2019 18:33

lubeybooby ~ I would have thought that as it's coming from the SW/west and it starts off as rain, it would be more of the big, sticky flakes that are good for building snowmen. Also being that high up, you've got a good chance of getting a decent amount (I think I remember your pictures from last year of all the snow you had!)

Hertfordshire/London area ~ might get a covering but not a lot ~ 1-2 cms

Worcestershire ~ could start off as rain/sleet and then become snow the end of the afternoon/towards evening. Might cause issues when it comes to the evening rush hour.

Everybodylovesablankie ~ I'm western edge of Leicester and I think we're in a bit of a good spot for snow this week!

BestIsWest · 28/01/2019 19:06

Swansea here, not expecting anything - we were a little snow free oasis last year when everyone else had snowmageddon.

mrsdolittle · 28/01/2019 19:18

Cotswolds here. Every forecast is different and constantly changing. It's an emotional rollercoaster 😂

I work in a college and would love a snow day!!

ScarlettDarling · 28/01/2019 19:55

Oh no, just checked and now we have a weather warning up here in Newcastle too ! I was meant to be going out tomorrow evening for dinner but will definitely cancel if it snows...what do you think OYBBK and Gloria?
