I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

Interesting that the Weather Outlook uses meteo France. Is that because MF are better or is it just down to money?

Grace212 · 21/01/2019 11:04

don't like the look of the sky here in London

have cancelled plans to go out tomorrow evening. Just hope mum is okay as she's too far for me to get too - she will stay in though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2019 12:40

using met office data is expensive!

Grace, why have you cancelled plans? I don't think you need to for London. Snow showers at most tomorrow afternoon.

Tonight and tomorrow will have to be a play it by lamppost for those away from northern higher ground.

Xcweather is showing 3.5cm snow and the pavements will be really icy

I've broken bones before and would prefer not to do so again! tbh the shit freezing cold was putting me off going out anyway.

I have to walk like a...I don't know what the word is...I can't walk on slippery pavements etc. Bloody hate snow and ice.

forecast looks alarming now for a couple of weeks. Also have to scatter dad's ashes but wondering if we should delay that as he would also have hated to be scattered on snowy or icy ground.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2019 13:14

ok, so XC weather is an automated output and while I can't guarantee anything, Tomorrow evening, I honestly think you'll be ok. I can never say that 100%, but I think at the moment it will be too warm for settling snow for you. But if you'd rather stay in in the warm, that's totally understandable.

The weekend looks to warm up temporarily if that's a good time for your Dads ashes, I'm sorry about your loss.

Thanks Kitten

we were hoping to do the scattering of the ashes during the week, which looks to be getting colder again.

I don't really understand what all the weather models mean, do you have any weather websites that you recommend or is it all just a guess so far in advance? thanks.

The met office has just popped a snow flake on the forecast for West Essex. I'm driving to Ipswich and back tomorrow and wondering if thats a good idea 🤔

TokyoSushi · 21/01/2019 21:03

Oh hello Met Office tomorrow evening!! (West Cheshire)

Snow watch!
Frouby · 21/01/2019 21:09

We had 1 raindrop forecast for now. Then heavier rain in the night.

It's currently snowing Grin

sluj · 21/01/2019 21:14

Where are you Frouby?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2019 21:21

Grace I'd go for the met office, but read the words underneath rather than relying on the symbols which are automated output when it comes to snow when temperatures are so marginal.

oooo Frouby

I am in s yorks, between sheffield and Barnsley.

Have a handy lamppost outside my window and just double checked, it's definetly snow. Only fine and light.

Didn't think it was cold enough, its been 5 degrees here all day, I was outside this morning for a few hours at the stables and I only had my medium coat on and didn't even need gloves on my pathetically nesh little hands. Grin.

I don't like snow so if anyone else wants my share you are welcome.

ILoveChristmasLights · 21/01/2019 21:31

Snow is pretty, ice on the roads isn’t, just take care everyone ☕️

Titsywoo · 21/01/2019 22:22

The forecast for tomorrow is changing by the hour on met office.

GloriaSmud · 22/01/2019 06:52

Yes ILoveChristmasLights. We haven't had any snow here (Leicester) but the rain has cleared through and the temperature has dropped (-0.8 here), leaving a lot of icy roads.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 22/01/2019 08:01

No snow here but lots of road closures into town. Not sure all my colleagues will make it in today. I'm in High Peak.

Are we due more today / tomorrow?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2019 08:46

There's a messy mix of rain sleet and snow coming across this afternoon. Over higher ground in the north and maybe the chilterns etc it may fall as snow but it's going to be a case of looking outside of the window. The further south you are, in general, the less likely it is to be snow.

This is such a rubbish cold spell.

On my walk this morning, a gate we go through had frozen shut so we had to clamber over it. 'Twas very icy and undignified though the frost was barely a ground frost.

nooddsocksforme · 22/01/2019 08:59

Snowing in Glasgow now

Delatron · 22/01/2019 09:01

It’s very hard to predict it seems.
I’m right on the Chilterns and annoyingly we are predicted something sleety/snowy right when I need to drive DS to club 30 mins away at 4.30. Any other time!!

OublietteBravo · 22/01/2019 09:04

Cold and sunny here (Beds/Northants border). Quite icy.

GloriaSmud · 22/01/2019 09:57

Metoffice have me down for heavy snow from 3pm onwards this afternoon with it easing off towards the evening. Their forecast though has been going between rain, sleet and light snow for 24 hours or so now so I'll just wait and see what falls from the sky!

GloriaSmud · 22/01/2019 10:01

Today's thoughts from Netweather and some from TheWeatherOutlook here and here.

GloriaSmud · 22/01/2019 10:06

Updated weather warnings for ice this afternoon and overnight.
