I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

Wet snow now in Glasgow - it is lying .

Frouby · 18/01/2019 20:53

Just had a 20 minute flurry here in south York's. Turning sleety now though.

gttia · 18/01/2019 22:06

Oybk pls don't apologise, so many of us read and post on here and you do it all for nothing.we appreciate it a lot - you never need to apologise for being busy in your own life xx

magimedi · 18/01/2019 22:42

No apologies needed OYBBK.

No snow here in E.Sussex - am sure you know how happy I am with that! Grin

Titsywoo · 18/01/2019 22:48

I'm so sorry for my selfish sledge buying :(

But if I didn't have one DS would kill me and I just couldn't take that chance.

There won't be snow in Surrey now for many many years.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2019 23:22

:) you are all so lovely!

If it's any comfort (sorry Magi) our hanging up sledge didn't prevent last years snow.

GFS (and just about all the models really) still struggling.
I think the snow that was forecast for Tuesday to be a big countrywide thing a few days ago, at the moment looks like being a Scotland/northern hills/higher bits of the UK sort of event with the chance of sleet/few flakes at lower levels now.

But there are still going to be chances for those sledges to be used in the next few weeks ~ Winter is Coming

Hope the weekend is calmer for you, OYBBK Smile

More snow here in the midlands overnight

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 19/01/2019 08:17

@cloudtree I am in west midlands, all snow has gone 😔

cloudtree · 19/01/2019 08:21

I live in an area of the midlands where snow hangs about. DS2 has gone into school this morning ten miles down the road and there is none there at all. He was throwing snowballs here before he left.

ScribblyGum · 19/01/2019 08:29

Snow in the Peak District right now. Driving over the Cat and Fiddle pass yesterday evening was scary!

TokyoSushi · 19/01/2019 09:09

I live in hope next week in west Cheshire! ❄️

Also to add my thanks to @OhYouBadBadKitten and @GloriaSmud what a fantastic job you do, it is very much appreciated!

Driving over the Cat and Fiddle pass yesterday evening was scary!

I can well imagine, still hopefully there weren't motorbikes to contend with for a change!

OYBBK no apologies necessary - real life comes first.

Antiquevintageandrusty · 19/01/2019 09:51

All gone here in N Yorks, we had quite a covering by 7pm.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/01/2019 09:58

Thank you :) I'm knackered, so still not out of bed Blush

The models are all saying different things at the moment. We still don't know about mid week, but as Gloria says, the balance seems to be tipping over to no snowmaggedon and less cold temperatures.

hellsbells99 · 19/01/2019 10:12

Waves to @TokyoSushi - fingers crossed for next week! 😄

gttia · 19/01/2019 12:26

It's all changed!! Got to love our weather

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 19/01/2019 14:52

My prediction for last Thursday was almost right - it snowed in the morning for 15 minutes, sun came out, snow disappeared and our event went ahead 😂😂 Now I've got nothing coming up, so it won't snow !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/01/2019 14:53

We will have to rope you into the forecasting team Grin

I get the feeling that there might be 1 or 2 places that will wake up to a surprise covering of something wintry on Tuesday morning, if it's cold enough overnight.
The rest of the week, cold with wintry showers. This week's metoffice forecast....

Monday:
Low cloud across parts of England and Wales should break up to give some sunny spells. Meanwhile, strengthening winds, heavy rain and hill snow will make inroads into northwestern areas.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:
An icy start as rain and hill snow clears east on Tuesday, with blustery, often wintry showers following on to western areas. Staying cold thereafter, though generally drier and brighter.

And their 30 day Outlook ~ still going for cold....

UK Outlook for Thursday 24 Jan 2019 to Saturday 2 Feb 2019:
Thursday and Friday will see a very cold north to north-easterly airstream bringing sunshine and showers, the showers giving rain or snow and most frequent in the north and northeast. It looks breezy on Thursday perhaps with coastal gales in the south and east, although winds should ease on Friday. Widespread locally severe night frosts are also likely. Later on Friday, rain preceded by snow may arrive in the far west and northwest, accompanied by strengthening winds. During the weekend and following week a lot of fine weather is expected with the chance of some wintry showers. Staying cold or very cold, with widespread frost. However, some wet and windy weather is likely in the northwest, which may briefly spread further southeast giving some snow on encountering the colder air.

UK Outlook for Sunday 3 Feb 2019 to Sunday 17 Feb 2019:
The northwest of the British Isles may see changeable conditions at first, with spells of rain, strong winds and some snow at times. However, it should become drier, brighter but colder here as the period unfolds. Meanwhile further southeast some bright, quiet periods are expected but with some wintry showers too, the detail of which is very uncertain. It is likely to be cold or very cold, and as a result widespread, locally severe frosts are on the cards. The conditions described above could still be interspersed by some milder, wetter interludes, most likely across southern parts of the British Isles, and this would bring an associated risk of significant snow and ice at times.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/01/2019 08:51

I think that's a really good summary Gloria. I think overnight into tuesday morning is going to be a really messy picture.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 20/01/2019 09:11

I think my 'feeling' comes from that the metoffice forecast for our temperature to be 2C or 3C overnight but we woke up to 0.9C this morning. So it'll be interesting if something similar happens tomorrow for us/other places and all the other factors needed for snow comes together, as to who wakes up to something wintry Tuesday morning!

LadyFlumpalot · 20/01/2019 10:37

I now have one lonely snowflake on Tuesday evening according to the met office forecast, I'm in Somerset.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 20/01/2019 13:49

I will never be as good as you guys OYBBK and Gloria . Also echoing what other pp's have said....you're both brilliant, thank you
