I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

OublietteBravo ~ you should be OK for the weekend, nothing of a snowy nature forecast at the moment.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2019 07:37

remember metcheck and those other daily graphs are just one model run and are autogenerated by computers. They are often wrong. Don't give up yet.

Some thoughts from Netweather ~ looks like the Daily Express, as usual some of the media have jumped in with both feet when it comes to the cold this week Hmm

ChristmaspArti · 14/01/2019 09:26

Parking sledge with auxillary wheels because of the Manchester snow shield!

I think the forecast is shifting away from snow for London/Essex - yay!

if it hadn't been for last year, I would normally hope the risk of snow was gone by mid Feb.

GloriaSmud · 14/01/2019 11:06

Latest GFS run still gives this for Wednesday next week...

Latest Outlook from the metoffice ~ don't think much has changed in their forecast....

UK Outlook for Friday 18 Jan 2019 to Sunday 27 Jan 2019:
It will be mostly settled for a time on Friday, especially in the east, before thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain, perhaps with some hill snow, try to move eastwards later, with strong winds. The rain and hill snow will make further eastward progress on Saturday, perhaps with northeastern areas staying dry. Thereafter, it looks set to remain mainly cold, unsettled and sometimes windy, with gales possible in the north. Any milder spells will tend to be brief, and associated with longer spells of rain. The rain could turn to snow almost anywhere, but particularly across northern and central areas, especially later in this period. Some drier, brighter spells are likely, perhaps with snow showers, especially in the east. During such spells, frost could become widespread and severe.

UK Outlook for Monday 28 Jan 2019 to Monday 11 Feb 2019:
For the end of January and into early February, there is an increased likelihood of cold weather being established across all of the UK, with temperatures continuing a downward trend to become cold or very cold. This would bring a greater risk of snow, ice and widespread frost, particularly across northern parts of the country. However, there remains uncertainty over the extent of the cold weather and how long it will last, and it is still possible that some milder and wetter interludes will intersperse this generally cold period, especially in the south.

Oh dear, looks like london won't miss it!

Grace212 · 14/01/2019 16:12

@gttia

I don't understand a lot of the models here but the 10 day outlook for my postcode had snow showing for a couple of days yesterday and has now changed it, so I'm keeping everything crossed.

TokyoSushi · 14/01/2019 16:41

Ooof Corbyn is savage today, I wonder if the no confidence motion might come very quickly after the vote?

Grace212 · 14/01/2019 16:52

Perhaps we could name the system that's still showing up for the middle of next week (the one that might bring us snow), 'Storm Corbyn.' It has a certain ring to it.

TokyoSushi · 14/01/2019 17:19

Oops 😂😂😂😂

Grace212 · 14/01/2019 17:54

Corbyn, he blow

Delatron · 14/01/2019 22:23

Forecasts keep changing all the time. Snowflake on my weather app pops up then disappears.

GloriaSmud · 15/01/2019 07:38

Had read this on the netweather forum but it might be something that's worth noting at the moment when it comes to the GFS.
