Snow watch!

I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

The latest model run is a little less guns ho, but nevertheless still brings in snow for a good number from next weekend.

Precipitation-type for midnight Sunday/Monday.

Metoffice Outlook is about the same. Could be an interesting week ahead when it comes to model watching.

(I was pondering on the weather equivalent of doing a 'placemark' on snow threads earlier ~ Sledgemark? Snowflaking? Snowdropping?)

Snow watch!

Parking sledge ?? Grin Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2019 08:55

I'm afraid I've doomed snow in East Anglia so that I get some in the south. I've given DD my warm gloves and hat to take back to university.

I'm parking sledge behind @whywontthey! 😂

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2019 09:08

I think Parking Sledge is a good place marker.

That's funny badkitten,
DS took his dad's gloves back to Norwich with him too. I'm hoping we get some in Herts on the edge of East Anglia though.
I also hope it comes on a Saturday morning when I can just sit indoors with a hot chocolate and just look at it without feeling obliged to try and tackle the roads to go to work in the car 🧣

I think I'll turn off my outside tap today. I've been meaning to do it since November Grin

Roll up roll up....sledge parking this way >>>> Grin Grin

megletthesecond · 13/01/2019 10:12

I for one will welcome the cold. The weeds are still growing at the allotment. We're popping over today so once they've been pulled out I might cover it up and cross my fingers that'll be it until mid March.

GloriaSmud · 13/01/2019 11:07

Sledgepark Grin I like that!

meglet ~ I've just had a visit to my plot and chatting with another plot holder, we both think after next weekend, there won't be any more digging-type work being done for a few weeks because of the weather.

GloriaSmud · 13/01/2019 11:30

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook ~ Wintry spell on the way.

hoochymama1 · 13/01/2019 16:02

Thanks Nanny, Lleyn is so beautiful, but what was that white stuff?

keepondreaming · 13/01/2019 16:08

My sledge is tied up and the huskies are awaiting snow...

loolooskip · 13/01/2019 16:39

Come Friday we have snow forecast everyday for the following 10 days. Up to 94cm. Confused

fortyfourfeasts · 13/01/2019 20:09

Parking sledge too Smile

OublietteBravo · 13/01/2019 20:23

If the snow could hold off until I’ve returned from my weekend away with friends, I’d be very grateful. Are we looking at snow in Suffolk before next Sunday evening?

TokyoSushi · 13/01/2019 20:37

Oooh I've got this now for Cheshire!

Also parks sledge! 🛷

Snow watch!
gttia · 13/01/2019 22:03

The forecasts seem to say the same now! Full planning at work this week and sledges ready :-)

megletthesecond · 13/01/2019 22:18

I've stuck pale blue (getting cold) and dark blue (probably really cold) stickers on the calender in a week - 10 days time.
DD watched me with a Hmm face.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2019 07:29

Not much showing snow wise until the 23rd on today's GFS, then it brings in the scenario in the photo on the 23rd. It develops a deep low pressure, with high winds and well, ermmm blizzards. Confused
What's more, ECMWF comes up with a similar scenario. But it looks knife edge for both and it's 10 days away so the forecast is likely to change.

The problem with the upcoming cold spell is that we aren't really tapping into the cold pool over Europe and so lots of it looks marginal. We shall see.

Snow watch!

I was proper Confused at that low pressure system as well!

perhapstomorrow · 14/01/2019 07:32

I've just looked at the forecast on Metcheck and all the sleet we were supposed to get on the week of 21st has disappeared and the temps look warmer!! I guess no snow for me! 😥😥
