ClosdesMouches Oh we have had some really hot weather too, same here no rain for weeks, and the lawn looks like straw,in fact part of it has actually got cracks in it, and its been hotter than the forecast said it would be
I am as tanned as my son who lives in Spain,,
My sister lives on the Lancashire coast, and they have had it really hot too i know, but this weeks forecast looks dismal, and we have had only drizzle today,no rain
As far as i know though the south has had it in the 30s,we got to 28 by my thermometer
A bit dismal here yesterday, but my neighbours went to Whitby yesterday and said it was boiling

beenrumbled · 09/07/2018 19:26

Humid and overcast here, but slightly cooler than its been. It's still 27 in the house though!

There is an ominous cloud growing on the horizon, but I am not sure it will rain.

LemonysSnicket · 09/07/2018 23:15

Is it weird that I keep moving anything glass/mirrored off of windowsills and keeping the linen curtains shut in case the sun sets fire to my house?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/07/2018 23:38

Lemony the glass thing isn't weird.

cloudberry · 10/07/2018 07:33

Years ago friend of my husband’s had big fire in his house caused by sun reflecting off glass in his sitting room, so not weird, very very sensible!

HalfStar · 10/07/2018 08:54

Waves from Ireland

We've had this mad heatwave here too but it's been a lot cooler (like 10 degrees!) for about a week now. It seems like the dry spell is going to break down a bit over here in the coming days - some business around Storm Chris? Would any of the MN resident forecasters have thoughts about how the rest of the month is looking over here? Have visitors coming and I admit I'm feeling gutted at the thought of a return to a normal cold Irish summer.

LapdanceShoeshine · 10/07/2018 09:48

The glass/mirror thing isn’t weird at all!

I used to have a glass water jug that was almost spherical at the bottom. On one occasion it was left on the table overnight - at least 6’ from the window - with some water in. Next morning the sun shining through the water made the cotton tablecloth start to smoulder Shock

Luckily I was sitting right next to it so the only casualty was the cloth (small hole). If there’d been nobody there...

flopsyrabbit1 · 10/07/2018 14:40

24/25 here today humidity 40%

just seen bbc weather and for the south its hotting up friday + to 27/30 for the weekend, maybe a shower friday (so it wont then)

ClosdesMouches · 10/07/2018 16:44

Please. Is there any sign of it ending?
We need rain here.

It's cooler today and outdoors is a temperature I thrive at, around 24 degrees. But the house is like a sweat box yet again after being cool this morning and I'm desperate for a decent night's sleep!

I'm in the south eastern side of Cheshire if anyone can help me understand a slightly longer range forecast. I know it's not going away until at least Sunday (including hotting up again at weekend)>

dementedma · 10/07/2018 16:48

much cooler now in Central Scotland - only about 18 and overcast. Hope this isn't the end of it. it's been lovely having a proper summer for once

ClosdesMouches · 10/07/2018 16:49

Just seen Halfstar's post.
I'm going to Ireland till the end of September ! Grin

HalfStar · 10/07/2018 18:49

Clos it has been incredible here, like people cancelling their foreign holidays incredible. Ireland is the perfect holiday spot in good weather...which is why I'll cry if it goes away for good Confused

GloriaSmud · 11/07/2018 06:53

I think after the weekend, for the north/NW/Scotland and Ireland, temperatures cool down a bit and there could be a chance of rain/thundery showers coming in from the west. These could spread to central England/the SE but it isn't a certainty.
So maybe some rain at last for some areas next week.

GloriaSmud · 11/07/2018 06:54

Metoffice Outlook says the same sort of thing for after the weekend...

UK Outlook for Sunday 15 Jul 2018 to Tuesday 24 Jul 2018:
Following the remarkable spell of dry, fine and very warm weather, changes are expected at the start of this period. Probably starting dry across southeastern areas, with sunny spells, where generally very warm and humid. More changeable and cooler in the northwest, with some rain or showers, which are likely to extend southeastwards to all parts. This change could be accompanied by thunderstorms across the south and east. Into the middle of next week, its looking generally more changeable, with rain or showers. More organised bands of rain are likely to arrive from the northwest at times, probably weakening as they spread southeastwards. Still some fine weather with sunny spells, especially in the southeast. Temperatures near average in the north, but still very warm in the south and east.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/07/2018 07:59

That reflects what I can see in the models too, with the potential for thunderstorms with flash flooding.

Moonkissedlegs · 11/07/2018 08:06

Sorry to be so annoying, but does anyone have any info on the forecast for the first week of August? Specifically the South West?! Grin

GloriaSmud · 11/07/2018 09:17

Moonkissed ~ That week is a bit far ahead. To get an idea of what the weather websites think, the metoffice Outlook for that week:

UK Outlook for Wednesday 25 Jul 2018 to Wednesday 8 Aug 2018:
We are likely to see a continuation of the changeable conditions into the start of this period, with rain or showers in the north and west, which may extend southeastwards to all parts. Further spells of fine and settled weather will probably return later in the month and into early August. However, there is the chance of more changeable spells of weather arriving from the northwest at times, which may bring the risk of thunderstorms across some southern parts. Temperatures overall are likely to be above the average for many. Some further very warm or hot spells are possible, more especially in the south and southeast. Temperatures will return closer to average in any changeable or unsettled spells of weather, perhaps more generally in the northwest.

And netweather:
Monday 30th July – Tuesday 7th August

This period will probably be more changeable with westerly and north-westerly winds quite frequent, but I do not expect it to be a washout, with some ridges of high pressure moving across the country, especially affecting the south. As a result temperatures, rainfall and sunshine will be much closer to the long-term normal for much of the country although there is a significant chance of the south and especially south-west staying drier than average with cloudier and wetter than average weather affecting the north-east of Scotland in particular. Mean temperatures for the period will tend to be between 0 and 1C above the long-term average.

So I think 'changeable' probably sums that lot up!

Moonkissedlegs · 11/07/2018 09:26

Thanks so much Gloria that doesn't look toooooooo bad, but as you say it's very early! We are camping so don't want a washout!

GloriaSmud · 11/07/2018 10:26

I've just realised, we're camping that week as well (N Yorkshire) Think I'll be looking closely at the forecast for that week too Grin

LighthouseSouth · 11/07/2018 11:47

so the forecast for London is really just more of the same?

gosh, we have no chance of dropping below 20 for months Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/07/2018 11:50

thunderstorm warnings for Friday.

They had better stay away from London!

LighthouseSouth · 11/07/2018 11:54

sorry Kitten I meant the temps.

I think we already have major storms in London on Friday, but for that day I want whatever weather the protestors want!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/07/2018 12:11

We want dry in London and wet over his golf course when he plays in Scotland Grin

I don't want my banner getting wet - I'm putting a lot of effort into it!

LighthouseSouth · 11/07/2018 12:15

but in terms of temps - do you agree that London is about 26 next week?

sorry to keep asking but we have a few days off and need to decide today/tomorrow if we are going to go on holiday north to escape the oven new build we live in. Thinking Scotland - maybe Aberdeen as neither of us have been that way before - and sea air, yay!

Oogle · 11/07/2018 12:16

I am not liking the long-range forecast. I have a party planned for 21st. I neeeeed it not to rain Sad
