It looks as though we could have some potentially extremely nasty weather Wednesday night into Thursday. Note the word 'potentially' - not guaranteed.

A low pressure looks to undergo rapid cyclogenesis (deepening) as it crosses the uk, potentially bringing 80+ mph winds across large areas.

As ever at this stage the models are varying quite wildly, both in terms of extent of deepening and where the low pressure crosses. Some are quite extreme, some are just very windy. Please keep an eye on the forecasts over the coming few days. I'll update when I can.

It's coming down as snow in SW London but turning to rain as it hits the ground.

Hmm
MrSlant · 21/01/2018 19:39

Pfft to all of you with snow, we've been trapped in our village because of rain and rain and more pigging rain. It barely feels like we've had daylight and the roads are rivers.

MynewnameisKy · 21/01/2018 21:57

Flooding here now. Shock

somewhereovertheroad · 21/01/2018 21:57

.

StealthPolarBear · 22/01/2018 09:38

Warm here. Hoping the snow melts very soon and vanishes without causing any flooding :)

I have just seen a Facebook post that there are 120 mph winds forecast on the Cairngorms on Wednesday!

Likely to happen?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2018 20:45

That seems too high, but it will be very wild up there.

Not a skiing day then Grin

JillJ72 · 22/01/2018 22:30

Looks like another storm may be blowing through Tues night / Weds morn?

GloriaSmud · 23/01/2018 08:54

JillJ72 Looks like it ~ think there'll be some weather warnings coming out today for it.
Netweather's wind gust chart for 3am tomorrow.

That does not look good again Gloriasmud - a noisy night to be expected....!

GloriaSmud · 23/01/2018 12:08

It could well be Jill!

The metoffice have just issued some rain and wind weather warnings.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2018 12:19

I don't think it looks too bad. My main concern is with surface flooding, the north west is being hit pretty relentlessly at present.

Yes tho i think they take the wind readings assuming no land "clutter"

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2018 12:36

I agree, it does just look like a circulation simulation without any topographical impact. I wonder how it is generated - maybe that's an artifact due to only large scale simulation?

Justaboy · 23/01/2018 12:45

Pass on that one!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2018 20:48

It does look like the overnight storm could be pretty ferocious in the NW, winds looking stronger than I expected, including over the pennines.

Woken by the wind last night and it's getting up again now.
Had some mental rain showers today. Some flooded roads and really soggy DD and DH.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 23/01/2018 23:17

Is it storm Georgina approaching?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/01/2018 07:21

It was WhatTheFox.

Extremely windy here.

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2018 08:42

Really heavy rain, I was on the motorway and usually have no problem driving in rain but this was heavy, being blown about and there was a sort of low level fog too. I was shaking when I got out of the car.
